2008 Starting QBs vs 2007 Starting QBs (1 Viewer)

Just posting this to get some QB discussion going for 2008.

I was just looking at the current QB situation around the league, and it looks like there could a lot of different starting QBs going into 2008. I think 17 QBs will definitely be the starters for their teams going into 2008

Locks:

Cincinnati Bengals - Palmer
Dallas Cowboys - Romo
Denver Broncos - Cutler
Houston Texans - Schaub
Indianapolis Colts – P Manning
Jacksonville Jaguars - Garrard
Minnesota Vikings – Jackson (Note: Played him this year, so I don’t see this changing)
New England Patriots - Brady
New Orleans Saints - Brees
New York Giants – E Manning
Oakland Raiders - Russell
Pittsburgh Steelers - Roethlisberger
San Diego Chargers - Rivers
Seattle Seahawks - Hasselbeck
St. Louis Rams – Bulger (Note: Big Contract vs. Concussions – maybe this one changes?)
Tennessee Titans - Young
Washington Redskins - CampbellHere is where the water's get muddled (possibly 15 teams with different starting QBs than 2007):

Arizona Cardinals - Warner/Leinart: I do not think the new Coaching staff is totally sold on Leinart. Warner is not the long-term solution though

Atlanta Falcons - Leftwich/Harrington: It has been a revolving door this year. I think they will settle in on Leftwich for 2008, but that does not mean they won't bring in someone else. I think the "Harrington as starter" project will be over.

Baltimore Ravens - McNair/Boller: McNair is not the iron man anymore…time to look to the future. I think Boller will be given another chance to be the starting QB for the Ravens

Buffalo Bills - Edwards/Losman: I think the Bills will go with Edwards once all is said and done. The question is what happens to Losman?

Carolina Panthers – Delhomme/Carr: Not so sure Delhomme is guaranteed to get the starting job back…has struggled over the last few year. If they planned on having Carr as the future QB, after this season, they better re-think it!

Chicago Bears - Grossman/Griese: You could do worse than Grossman by drafting a rookie QB to start but it is hard to see what the team thinks of him vs. the media. Griese is the backup QB for whomever starts.

Cleveland Browns - Anderson/Quinn: Quinn was the answer, but it is hard to overlook Anderson now

Detroit Lions - Kitna/Stanton: Kitna was supposed to be the short term solution. Does that mean a change at QB for next year?

Green Bay Packers - Farve/Rogers – I only put this one here because I think if Farve wins the Super Bowl, it might be time to hang up the cleats. If not, I think Rogers rides the pine again in 2008

Kansas City Chiefs - Croyle/Huard: I Didn’t see enough to say either of these guys should be the starter in 2008

Miami Dolphins - Beck/Lemmon/Green: Green should be done, and Beck needs a lot of work

New York Jets - Clemmens/Pennington: Clemmen’s got the start at the end of the season. The fans seem tired of Pennington, but does that mean the Coaches are?

Philadelphia Eagles - McNabb/Kolb/Feeley: I think this is more for the media…McNabb is Reid’s QB and I don't see that changing...yet there are rumors out there.

San Francisco 49ers – Smith: Does not look like a good situation in SF between the QB and the Coach right now...and it is not like Smith has been the best QB for his team.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Garcia/McCown/Gradkowski: I think Garcia was the short-term solution here. So who is the long term?

I have been thinking a lot about this topic lately. I try not to assume much, especially at this point in the season. I think there are 14 jobs that are locked up at this point. They are:

Leinart

Palmer

Romo

Cutler

Schaub

P Manning

Brady

Brees

E Manning

Roethlisberger

Rivers

Hasselbeck

Young

Campbell

Some of these guys have earned their jobs for the foreseeable future, while others are young enough that their teams will not give up on them yet.

That leaves over half of the jobs open, although many of these I feel pretty confident about, I am not ready to call them a lock. Those include:

Bulger

Garrard

Kitna

Garcia

Delhomme

There are a few jobs that appear to be going to a young guy.

Edwards

Russell

T Jackson

Clemens

Two jobs that should go to QBs who have played well this year:

D Anderson- depends on Quinn/management

Favre- does he retire?

Jobs that are wide open:

Falcons

Ravens

Bears

Chiefs

Eagles

Dolphins

49ers

Carolina Panthers – Delhomme/Carr: Not so sure Delhomme is guaranteed to get the starting job back…has struggled over the last few year. If they planned on having Carr as the future QB, after this season, they better re-think it!
Good posting, however I think it's pretty evident, when they brought in Vinny, that the Panthers don't plan on making Carr their future QB. In my opinion there are a lot of reasons for Carolina to consider picking a QB like André Woodson and slowly prepare him to be the future. Delhomme is serviceable but will not take the Panthers anywhere soon.

Is Schaub such a sure thing. He doesn't seem to be doing much on the sidelines during their recent winning streak.

He's not a lock at the same level as Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but there's very little chance that he doesn't start next year. I expect to see a change in Detroit next year, but not early. Kitna's done pretty much what they asked him to, but they'll either start giving Stanton time or possibly bring Losman in.ETA:
Share your thoughts on my draft.
Not so good.

McNabb will not be back as QB in Philly, he's likely to be traded in the off-season, it looks like the franchise has soured on him,and he in return seems to have given up on the franchise.

Kolb will probably start in Philly, in 2008..just my $.02

Jets - Not sure that Clemens is the answer, not sure that the Jets believe he is, either..

Chicago- Grossman might have made the point that he should be the starting QB for the Bears, but who knows what that team does anymore...

Carolina is a mess, there is no guarantee that Delhomme comes back as the starting QB, he didn't look particularly good in 2006...

how many years does Bulger have left if he continues to take such a pounding every week?

Favre is `thisclose` to playing in another SB, that team is fully reloaded, and ready to make a serious run for the Title over the next few years , I doubt he retires now..he might be staying put for another year or two...that team is VERY talented, so why should be walk away now?

Depending on what Eli does the remainder of the season, he could be on the fritz, too..the Giants will be looking at drafting a QB next season, if Eli stinks it up and goes 1-and-done in the playoffs...

not sure Alex Smith is a lock to hold onto the starting QB spot in SF, he hasn't shown ANYTHING in two years as a starter to make you think 'this is our guy of the future'.

and Baltimore needs to find a full set of QB's, and dump what they currently have..

I am sure there are a few teams that might look to the draft to get there starting QB...right now the Falcons, Ravens, Chiefs, and Bears all have picks in the top 10 of the draft.

Here are the top three rookie candidates

1. Matt Ryan Boston College 6-5 218 4.90

2. Brian Brohm Louisville 6-4 224 4.80

3. Andre' Woodson Kentucky 6-5 230 4.80

I am still not sold on McNabb going to Chicago after this season.

but in 2007 the 3 games he played he looked good (8tds & 1int)......i think it's a lock that he is back next year providing he is healthy.

i think bulger(one of the best in the NFL when healthy), garrard(great fit for a team that is based around DEF and the running game), russell(just b/c he was drfted #1), and garcia(gurden loves him) are locks for 08

Cards season ticket holder here. Leinart's a lock to start next year if healthy. And I agree the staff isn't sold on him. And rightly so. The guy looked terribly indecisive all year. Maybe chalk it up to a new O, but Warner looked far and way superior in the same new O.I think Losman could find himself starting somewhere next year (or just as likely, one of the highest paid backups in the league). Hopefully with better results than the fringe starting QB's (Carr/Leftwich) after signing with a new franchise. I could see him in Detroit. Martz seems to love Kitna (who is something like 9-21 in Detroit) so who really knows.

If healthy, I think Delhomme's a shoe in to start in 2008.

I see the Jets drafting, trading for or picking up a FA QB in the off-season & starting mid season next year while Clemens rides the pine b/c he is not the answer.

Green Bay Packers - Farve/Rogers – I only put this one here because I think if Farve wins the Super Bowl, it might be time to hang up the cleats. If not, I think Rogers rides the pine again in 2008
Jesus.

I just caught a comment during one of the Packers games earlier this year that he's close to breaking some continous games played record that would require him to start and additional 12+ games or so next year. If that's trus, Favre comes back no matter if the Packers win the Superbowl. I thought he had already broken the old record so I'm not sure what record I overheard the announcers mention.
