2011 Buffalo Bills Bandwagon Thread (1 Viewer)

I made a $100 bet with a buddy who was a Dolphins fan that the Bills would finish ahead of Miami. I'm feeling pretty good about that now. I'm definitely on the Bills bandwagon, and I'm glad they're a good team. I still think they need to improve their pass rush, but their offense is absolutely for real.

I'm just happy that they're entertaining and playing good football. As a long time fan though, I've learned the hard way to temper my expectations.
this is their biggest win since when??

Even being a Bills fan, what I'm seeing them do this year is just astounding. Honestly, I thought their goose was cooked today. Never again doubt the Amish Rifle!!!

We know he's got guts

We know he's got brains

We know he can circle the wagons

And win a few games

And this might sound kind of weird

But we're believing in his beard

So come on Buffalo

He's ready to play

He's got plenty of heart

And refuses to shave

Fitzy will rock one

From out of the shotgun

Stand up and cheer

The Amish Rifle's here

They all were locked out

The season in trouble

Negotiation tides were turned

At the sight of his stubble

And when training camp had neared

They felt the power of his beard

So come on Buffalo

He's ready to play

He's got plenty of heart

And refuses to shave

Fitzy will rock one

From out of the shotgun

Stand up and cheer

The Amish Rifle's here

It's better than Moses or Abraham Lincoln's

Fitzmagic is there and it's gotten us thinkin'

Barnett, Byrd, Nelson, McGee and Merriman

Would be a lot better if they were all hairy men

So Fred and Stevie, Kyle and Roscoe

They all need more than a 5 o'clock shadow

Spiller and Moorman and all of Buffalo

If you want to win then - ready, set, GROW!

So come on Buffalo

He's ready to play

He's got plenty of heart

And refuses to shave

Fitzy will rock one

From out of the shotgun

Stand up and cheer

The Amish Rifle's here

Everyone rock one

So grow if you've got one

Have no fear

The Amish Rifle's here

Seriously, it's time for Buffalo to step up and pay Fitzpatrick. He isn't going to be that expensive, and it's not like they don't have any cap room.

It has been mentioned in other threads, but the o-line play has been nothing short of remarkable. I don't believe Fitz was sacked today, and Freddie is certainly having a breakout season...

Would still like to see a pash rush like we did in the Bears preseason game though...

how much can a 31yo RB really expect to get? Tough spot for him and the team, but I hope they take care of him and keep him happy. Really interested to see what type of deal Fitz will get.

Very happy for you Bills fans. Beating the Pats today, in a way validates that stinging loss last week. You guys are legit. Now keep it up. Also, am very happy to have F. Jackson as my starting RB.

Im not a Bills fan, but as someone who grew up in Syracuse Im happy they're doing well and have been into it 100% the last two weeks.

This is the most fun Bills fans have had since Flutie Flakes.

I'd say they need to re-start the cereal production line with Fred Flakes.

I am not ashamed to say that I did not see this coming. They just looked so dysfunctional for so long, including the off-season. I mean, what NFL team takes a guy who can't win the starting Guard spot and just says "ok lets just cross our fingers and hope you can play tackle"? Miraculously the OL has been ok. I hated the Evans trade and had no confidence in Donald Jones, et al - and all these guys can play. Freddie is awesome, but we already knew that. I don't believe how good Fitz has been. Even his 2 int's today - one was a tipped ball, the other was a 4th&long where NE would've been better off dropping the ball so who cares. Whether or not this can continue I have my doubts. The offense can't possibly keep this up so somehow they're going to need to find a pass-rush at some point. But it sure is an easy team to root for.

My wife's family is from Buffalo, moved to to LA, it's nice to see them so happy. They are true fans who have had to suffer for the longest. Hats off to you Bills fans it's been a long time coming.

I didn't see it coming either. I thought going into the year that the first two games would be winnable against KC and Oakland, and I outright refused to truly get my hopes up until Week 3 after having seen quick starts from the Bills in the past. Given the first half woes against Oakland and the fact that KC got slammed in Week 2 (showing that they're not as good as they were last year), I fully expected a standard loss to NE today. I thought 7 wins was the max, with the more likely finish in the 5-6 range. It's been a long time since I could say this, but the team that has played these three games is a playoff-caliber team. I remember the 5-1 start from 2008 very well and, despite their record, that team wasn't a playoff team. They blew out a bad Seattle team, beat a good SD team late in the game, snuck past both Oakland and Jacksonville, and didn't lead the Rams until a defensive TD in the 4th. That was an ok team that won games against other ok teams. When it comes to the "eye test", this Bills team looks vastly different. I'm almost afraid to post it for fear of failure, but save for the first quarter-and-a-half of the Oakland and NE games....this Bills team looks like a legitimately good NFL team.

I'm on board, I traded for Fitz this last week & also picked up 3 of their OL.

I'm in.

Love me a team with little fan-fare, in a forgotten, rust-belt city, with relative no-name guys showing up big.

Kinda reminds me of my Minnesota Twins.

I was at work all day, but when I heard the final, I knew this thread was bound to get started! In a year when the Colts are down, I'm happy to get on this wagon, if there is still room!!

speed bump last week against the Bengals might have scared a few people away, but this train is picking up steam again after a huge win over the Eagles.

4-1 with a road trip to face the Giants next week before the bye. They just lost to the Seahawks.

I've been on my entire life... never got off brother.

I was not as down on this team as the majority of people entering this season. I really did feel they could go 9-7 this year and push for a wildcard spot. I liked the direction Gailey had this team going in the 2nd half of last season with Fitz as QB (finished out 4-4). With another year in Gailey's system and having Fitz as "the man" , I saw big things for this offense.

I thought the o-line would be much better being a young unit and returning mostly intact. I didn't think they would be this good though. They are one of the best units in the league right now. Fitz has only been sacked 3 times ALL SEASON. That is amazing. FJax is a man among boys out there.

They have been one of the most exciting team's to watch that I can remember in my 26 years on this planet. Beating the media's top two Superbowl picks (New England & Philly) has really energized this team. JUst love it right now.

GO BILLS!

Actually, Fitz has only been sacked twice. The 3rd sack was on Brad Smith when he lined up in the Wildcat, had 2 wide open WRs, froze and got sacked.Yeah, pretty shocking that the O-line has been as good as it's been. Especially with injuries to both of their starting Tackles that has lead to missed games for both.

Was at the game today, the place was electric. The Bills challenged the Philly corners ZERO. *EVERYTHING* was either a screen or a short cross. Or Fred Jackson. That was it. Philly had no answer. It was beautiful.

If you're talking about today, Smith play wasn't ruled as a sack.
2nd-6, BUF38 6:39 B. Smith rushed to the left for 3 yard loss
Fitz was sacked by Cullen Jenkins.
3rd-13, BUF17 14:02 R. Fitzpatrick sacked by C. Jenkins
Agreed that the play of the offensive line has been the biggest surprise by far this season. And they had to play without Demetrius Bell today while plugging in rookie Chris Hairston but didn't really miss a beat. Good sign. Getting rid of Hangarter and moving Wood to center has been huge. Also Levitre really playing well after they threatened to bench him or move him to tackle in the preseason.

It was Game 2 against the Raiders:(4:51) (Shotgun) 16-B.Smith sacked at BUF 42 for -6 yards (55-R.McClain). Rush after pitch-back to right side from R.Fitzpatrick.So I guess Smith didn't actually line up in the Wildcat, he took a pitch and then got sacked.

Just read on Twitter that Kyle Williams has apparently been dealing with an ankle injury for a while and that he came out of the game on the 3rd quarter. I didn't even realize that and the announcers never mentioned it. Sounds like they're going to check it out more tomorrow. That would explain why he hasn't been all that effective.

Also, someone on Twitter said that 34 of the Super Bowl winners did not lead the league in total defense, but DID lead in either takeaways or defensive scoring. Interesting if true.

Is blocking in the back only illegal on punt and kick off returns? I have noticed it a lot this year in many games, especially on bubble screens and WR screens. Noticed another one on B Scott on the DeSean Jackson TD that sprung him. I know the answer but am in a cutesy mood right now.

A few comments about this team --

1) Like I said in the Buf vs. Phi thread, I love the fact that this team is winning, and part of what makes these guys so much fun to root for is the fact that it's cool to see guys work hard and overachieve. But I do think it's fair to keep in mind that they are overachieving. If they don't get the defense straightened out, they're not going to be playing in January. I know I sound like a negative Nancy to point this out when the team is finally winning and playing good, entertaining football after being in the wilderness for an eternity by modern NFL standards, but look at it this way -- the fact that we're even having a conversation about the playoffs is remarkable given that this team started 0-8 (?) or whatever last year.

2) The other way to put a positive spin on (1) is to note that they're doing well now, and they still have lots of room for improvement. This is a young team that doesn't have a lot of "draft day" talent. In some respects, they're reminding me of that first Patriot SB team, where you look at their roster and you can't quite figure out how they're winning with that lineup, but they are, and they're only going to get better with good drafting and FA moves.

3) Yet another way to put a positive spin on (1) is note that this coaching staff is absolutely getting the job done. Gailey had them playing pretty decent football by the end of last season, and he's got the offense playing extremely well right now. Just watching them play, you would never know that it's made up of a 7th round QB, a 7th WR, and undrafted RB, and a bunch of other pass-catchers that many of us didn't even know existed until fairly recently. Gailey has officially made chicken salad out of, well that's too harsh because Fitz, Jackson, and Johnson are actually pretty good, but you know what I mean. If our offense can be this good with our current lineup, imagine what we can do if/when we upgrade our personnel at WR2 and TE. This seems to be a well-coached team, which is someting we haven't been able to say in a long time.

4) On a related note, I've now watched five Bills games this season. In none of those games have I wanted to see the offensive coordinator fired. When was the last time any of us could say that? The offensive gameplanning and play-calling has been superb overall. I haven't seen anybody mention this yet, but it deserves more play because I don't think our offense has been managed this well since Ted Marchibroda was here.

tl;dr version: I'm still uncertain about Buffalo's prospects for making the playoffs, but I'm enjoying the ride and I'm a lot more optimistic about the team's long-term direction than I was a year ago.

I do not enjoy the taste of your piss in my cheerios! This is the bandwagon thread and it's flying. Roads!? Where we're going we don't need roads.

Fact: through 5 games Ryan Fitzpatrick is the least sacked QB in the NFL.

He's only been taken down 3 times.

By far this is the most surprising and relevant stat of the season. What happened to that woeful offensive line? Did they just grow up?

I've watched every game and even when Fitz has trouble finding an open guy, the line holds their ground for him. It's remarkable.

Bills O Line is the first half MVP of the league. Fitz does help them out because he doesn't hold the ball excessively and he has a great feel for the pass rush.

Fitz and the O-line have been good, but I do think the scheme has benefited them immensely too. They don't throw the ball downfield at all. It's all quick slants, screens and short posts and ins. So the O-line isn't having to block for very long most of the time.

But guys aren't just coming through the line untouched and blowing up plays before they start either.
