2011 DE Dynasty diamonds in th Rough (1 Viewer)

Ok a lot of all-inclusive 2011 IDP posts but I want to break it down so we can get down to the Nitti gritty. I want to know what DEs you guys think are the most likely to be next year’s studs based on skill and opportunity. I am interested in the DE that will get 50 Tackles+ and 10 sacks like Cole, Tuck, etc. My opinions are below please add or comment on my picks

Cin: Johnson or Dunlap (can’t decide which one so please chime in or will both be studs)

Car: C. Johnson looks like he will be a stud and I will go out on a limb and say he will be in the top 5 next year!!!

Chi: Idonije looks good but he is 30!!!

Oak: Houston I think might stick and could have long term up side.

In Cincy, I like Dunlap more than Johnson. I think Dunlap is a better all around football player who seems much more fluid. I get frustrated at the amount of times I see Johnson standing over the pile and flexing, yet letting someone else make the plays. He seems to have the size and strength, but seems a bit awkward at times out there. I really hope he puts it all together, and at times he seems to for a play or two, but it doesn't happen with any consistency.

Connor Barwin is a good flier to grab and see how he does. He's got a good complimentary DE opposite him in Mario Williams. The only thing is that you just don't know what a coaching change would do to their scheme.

I'm hoping he pulls Everette Brown upwards to success with him. Brown's been crappy this year.

Dunlap is a pretty good option for dynasty IMO. He has been publicly challenged by Lewis the last few weeks to step it up and he has responded. He has the potential to be very good pass rusher and play on run downs as well. Thats about all the upside you can ask for from a DE.

I don't love Johnson's game. It seems like they're having trouble figuring out how to use him. They will probably find him a niche sooner or later, but I don't think he'll ever be racking up the snaps or tackles needed to be consistent in fantasy.

William Hayes was a guy I had added in both my zealots leagues and have since dropped. He is a young guy who has looked decent at times but may be available in a lot of leagues due to his early injuries and lackluster stats this year.

Much depends on the depth of your league, but here are some guys under the age of 25 that are reasonable bets to break out of their 2010 tiers and jump at least one tier next year.

DL2 Chris Long

DL4 Everette Brown, Jason Pierre-Paul, Brandon Graham, William Hayes, Jeremy Mincey

DL5+ Austen Lane, Carlos Dunlap, Connor Barwin, Derrick Morgan, Jerry Hughes, Corey Wootton, George Selvie

Anyways, anything can happen.

Depending on the scoring system, some leagues award sacks more heavily than tackles and vice versa.

These are just some defensive players:

Shaughnessy

Lawrence Jackson

Biermann

that could improve on their numbers drastically in 2011(if there's NFL football) and beyond.

Based on skill and opportunity, you really got to like the chances of Pierre-Paul and Graham for a break out year in 2011 (especially Pierre-Paul, since Kiwi might be packing his bags). Might be a NFC East bias though. On the other hand, I am a little worried about all the Carolina DEs. I only own Johnson right now, but I might consider letting him go down the stretch because of the uncertainty in Carolina next year.

Unless they go to a 3-4 next year I see no reason to bail on these guys. Fox is a dead man walking, or should be, and any life that gets injected into that team will benefit everyone.

That's really a big worry for me. Not like I'm an expert at this or anything but with all the young talent they have at DE you would think they'd stick 4-3 even after a Fox departure, and yeah a switch to 3-4 is stupid, but I've seen dumber decisions before in football.

I'm a 'Skins fan and still can't believe that Haslett and Shanny bailed on the 4-3 with that lineup. Orakpo's transitioned ok to OLB, and Haynesworth can be all right as a 3-4 DE, but they have no NT, not enough true LB's and Jarmon, Carter are completely out of water in this scheme. Stupid. So yeah, you always have to make room for stupidity.

Hardy in CAR intrigues me. Logjam there, but he has shown a little and has the physical skills.

Sidbury in ATL is just waiting for Abraham to slow down.

CAR can barely field enough LBs for a 4-3 so I doubt a switch to 3-4. As someone mentioned, Hardy is the guy to watch here. The others are ok but no breakouts coming methinks.

Charles Johnson has been money of late, I'd be hard pressed to trade him. I haven't been able to watch him play, but considering he already has 40 solos, I'd say he's been good against the run this year, with a good chance of him being really good. And lately he's been getting to the QB often, with 4 sacks in his last 3 and he hit the QB 4 times this past weekend (managing to get 1 sack). DE's who get lots of solos and also have the ability to get to the QB are the type of guys you should be trying to acquire, not trade away imo.

this is why i am backpedaling some on norwood. he doesn't seem to be getting any playing time at DE or LB despite the plague of injuries there at CAR.
