2011 teams (1 Viewer)

The idea popped into my head as a spinoff of this SP thread: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=586796&st=0

Of all the teams, here are the following squads I believe have no realistic chance of making the playoffs:

Pirates

Diamondbacks

Indians

Nationals

Royals

Orioles

Mariners

Astros

Mets

Cubs

I could see every other team winning their division or the wildcard. Marlins, A's, Padres, Blue Jays, Twins, Rockies, Brewers, Angels...

I'd say:

Orioles

Indians

Royals

Mariners

Nationals

Mets

Pirates

It's awfully hard to write off too many NL teams, imo. I can't say the Cubs and D-Backs have no shot. Both of those teams have some good starters and a some impact bats. Unlikely either makes the playoffs, but if the right players stay healthy or take a step forward, they could make a run. There is only one potentially great team in the NL. If the Mets and Nationals weren't in the East, I might not put them on this list. If the Pirates had pitching that could be described as anything other than "absolutely atrocious", I might take them off too.

As always, I have absolutely no idea how the Padres or A's could possibly make the playoffs, but I pretty much think that every year and, every year, they play good baseball. If any other teams had their rosters, I'd put them on the no-shot list without hestitation.

ETA: Just took the Astros off the list. They've got a pair of potentially really good starters, a couple young ones with potential, and enough offense to make a run if the pitching pans out.

Off those lists I think the O's and Cubs have an ever-so-slight chance. O's need everything to go right for them and wrong for the Yankees. Cubs have the talent to sneak into a wild card, it's not like the Brewers and Cards are that much better. I wouldn't put a buck on either but I don't consider it unrealistic.

Yeah, if the Orioles weren't in the East, I think I'd take them off my no-shot list. They should score plenty of runs and their pitching could be sneaky good. They might be legit contenders in the West or Central.

They need to get past Tampa, Boston, New York, AND Toronto? I just can't see it happening. With Wainwright and Greinke being hurt I could see the Cubs pulling it off. But it's the Cubs. Sorry Cubs fans, but you don't have the term lovable losers for nothin'.

Well if everything goes right I think they're better than Rays & Jays. Not likely but not impossible to fathom.
