Outside of Cooper we have no real FA's to sign back either

I also thought the coaching did an amazing job this year too. A lot of "failure" coaches we brought in combined with a lot of college guys and I thought they did a great job. I hope we don't lose many of those guys. I'm sure after seeing what they did on this level that some will get offered college HC jobs.
I don't think that's going to happen. Can't see assistants getting thrown head coaching college jobs, so the only options would be Davis and Shurmur and I really don't think either of those guys did anything that great this year to warrant college HC offers.
I agree. I'm not sure who he is referring to specifically.

I guess I shot low by saying a college HC about an hour after I posted that I read that Washington may interview Bill Lazor (our QB coach) for their HC spot.ETA

@normwood: http://t.co/nrHhsS4M9e's Jason La Canfora says Eagles QB coach/former #UVA OC Bill Lazor could be interviewed for Skins' head coach opening.

Skins are interviewing a TON of people... Lazor isn't believed to be even remotely in the running.

La Canfora also wrote this today.... "by talking to such a wide group of candidates -- but really knowing only a handful are likely to get the job -- Allen and owner Dan Snyder get to solicit ideas, potential other staff hires, and useful information about other organizations, as well as get free scouting reports on the Redskins' roster from each candidate."

I was gonna raise this point in the game thread where myself and others (Insein, etc.) are hammering Henery but is anyone else still boiling over Reid throwing Akers under the bus and running him out of town after the playoff loss to GB in 2010? Refresh my memory but Akers missed two FGs in that game while his child was sick at CHOP. Akers had been pretty clutch his whole career and wasn't the sole reason they lost that game.

Enter Henery. Reason #517 I hate Reid. I so wish we still had Akers...

My main point is that when you have the success that we did then people are going to come looking. I'd like to keep as much of the staff in place if possible.

Interesting. I feel like Azzinaro and Stoutland don't really have HC aspirations, but that is just a gut feel, no real insight. Admittedly, I don't know that much about the other guys, but I was never aware of them being hot prospects.

I'm sure we wont have to worry for long, he's a lock to be cut. I just don't believe they let it carry on this long with him though. I can get if you're not missing FG's all year but to be missing a ton of kicks AND not being able to kick the ball in the endzone is just crazy.

Yes. They did Akers dirty. There was no need to cut him like that but if you do at least get someone that can actually kick in here. Leave it to Andy to not only find a kicker who can't kick but waste a 4th rounder on him.

Yeah, what bothers me most about the end of FA's tenure was the way he was just grabbing for straws to make scapegoats. Fire the DC, make the OLine coach the DC. Then fire the DL coach, then the DC YOU MADE defensive C without any experience. Cut the kicker whose kids are sick but has been a rock solid Eagle for life....ugh. Year 2 of Chip should be fun.

Again, if you read La Canfora's full report, he hints that neither Shurmur or Lazor are even in the running, let alone 'hot prospects'. They are interviewing them to get info on a division rival as many teams actually do. You'll see neither of these guys get a single other HC interview elsewhere. I don't think there's a person out there who thinks our offensive success had anything to do with Shurmur.

Isn't Nate Keading (sp?) a free agent? I remember him having a great leg. Didn't he get hurt in San Diego and then lost his job to Novak? Or was the injury worse than I remember?

Leading blew his knee out opening day 2012 I think. Guy was a good kicker though. I'm not sure if he was re injured this year. It was pretty frustrating to read Henery's quotes after we blamed the cold air and wind. He said it's just "science"

Baldy on 97.5 said no wind. He defended Foles taking that bad sack essentially saying Henery has to make that kick regardless. I certainly agree.

I dont care who says what....Foles cant take that sack given the amount of time he had. I'll chalk it up to being young but he has to fire that damn thing out of the back of the endzone

The Eagles can't sign Nick Foles to a contract extension until after the 2014 season.

Analysis: Per the terms of the CBA, drafted players have to play under their rookie contract through the third year. So much like Russell Wilson, Foles will play out next season as one of the biggest bargains in the league at $615,000. It gives the Eagles a full season to be absolutely sure they want to commit to Foles as their franchise quarterback and it also brings them a windfall of cap space. This year he finished the regular season eighth in completion percentage (64.0), first in yards per attempt (9.12) and first in passer rating (119.2) while throwing 27 touchdowns against two interceptions.

Hey guess what? Desean wants to restructure. Surprising..

Maybe he just wants more lon

Hey guess what? Desean wants to restructure. Surprising..
Wait... so he wants MORE then the 12 Mil next year?!
Probably wants more guaranteed money.
Ya which I guess isn't the worst thing in the world, if it means we re-structure and give him less money over a longer period of time and more guaranteed... could help us drop that pretty hefty 12mill cap hit from him couldn't it?

The rush olb everyone is looking for is already on the team, Brandon Graham. Yup, I hope he gets a chance to play a good amout of snaps one day even if it's ot in philly.

I hope you're right. He was (IMO) one of the biggest disappointments on the team this year. I expect SOOO much more out of him.

Gotta think if he was lighting it up in practices he'd have seen more time.... But I would not be surprised to see him pull down double digit sacks as a 4-3 DE somewhere next season.

Yea, if i recall when this contract was done, it was essentially a 2 year deal that we could get out of if he sucked... Lots of durability concerns at the time (multiple concussion in 2009-10) . I'll wait for details of what he wants done, but I can see a 5 year deal with some restructuring done and a signing bonus that'll lower his cap hit this year.

Anybody catch today's presser? Mikey Miss saying Kelly did not give Foles a complete endorsement. In a bizarre twist, Missinelli is now on Foles side but seemed to intimate that Kelly wants competition next year. That doesn't make sense to me...

I didn't listen, but what I can gather from my twitter feed, Kelly basically said there would be competition at every position and that if someone wanted to be the starting QB, they would have to go thru Foles. He said he is "the guy" going into next year, so I don't think it's that bad. What I love is, they asked him to grade himself on his first season. His reply: "58.8%" because he only won 10/17 games.

"Nick Foles is our guy, but I don't think he's afraid of competition."

That can be taken plenty of different ways.

we could say the same about Nick Foles. He had 3 tackles and a sack Sunday and hardly played.

Yeah, Akers was dealing with family issues but lets not rewrite the rest of history. Akers has been less accurate than Henery this year and there is a reason the 49ers cut him last year. He was 29-42 last year and cost the 49ers 2 games. Beyond that, he needed a kickoff specialist this year for most of the year. After hearing Detroit fans in our game threads, they were just waiting to cut him.

And if we are going to place some or a lot of the blame on Henery, then Akers also deserves blame for that game. 5 point game, misses 2 FG's including 1 early in the 4th. We also had the ball on their 27 yard line with 33 seconds left when Vick threw the pick. If they are down 2 points, they aren't taking shots in the EZ.

 I would love for him to play more and do well!

He's under contract - I would bet we kep either him or Cole, but not both. Who knows though. I think we save 1.5 mil or so if we cut him, so no idea if that;'s worth it to see if he can pick up the system and play more snaps or not.

That's what I love about Chip Kelly as a coach. Since I live in Houston, the Texans are my second team, and it was infuriating that Kubiak was going to live and die with Matt Schaub no matter how he performed. It sent a bad message to Matt Schaub, it sent a bad message to the back-up QB's, and it sent a bad message to the rest of the team. Everyone should be working to be the starter because at some point, with injuries or poor play, everyone could be a starter. I think Kelly gets this and he, like other good coaches are looking to improve every position all the time, not just go with the status quo, because those were the ones you drafted or traded for.

I don't see how DeSean and his agent think they have much leverage. For one, free agents will flock to play in this offense and for this organization now with all of the praise from current players. Two, you can pro-rated Riley Cooper's numbers with Nick Foles over 17 games and get something like 70+ ypg and .7 TD pg. Thats like 1200+ and 12 TD. Throw in a healthy Maclin and a ok FA class, he is out of his mind even mentioning his contract.

He is smarter than this. He knows that restructuring will help him and the team. Dude just came off 1300/9. He is not saying he will hold out or anything. Agent I am sure advised him that it was a 2 year deal pretty much and this year was going to be kind of like a contract year anyway. And he performed very well, fits the offense to exactly what they want to do. He knows his value and that contract Bowe just signed with his old coach.

Is he afraid of getting cut though? He's scheduled to make 10m next season, if he's cut it's a 5m(?) cap hit. No way in the world the eagles carry that dead space. He wants MORE than 10m? Or just more years guaranteed?

Good points, and he's laid that foundation from the start. Good chance Vick doesn't come back, so they have to draft or sign another QB anyway.

I'm listening to Mikey Miss now and he definitely is not completely sold on Foles. For some reason, he has this obsession with scrambling QBs.

When I heard Kelly's remark I thought nothing of it. He said he's our guy. The line about Nick not being scared of competition is true as well. He showed that last season and performed well.

The talk radio has to be taken with a grain of salt. The season is over and no one cares about the Sixers or Flyers, so how do you generate calls? Talking football and the QB. This is like when the Iranian wrestler comes out waiving their flag in Washington DC :lmao:

I'm not listening so I have no idea what his Missanelli's tone is today, but late in the game he was sending out tweets like, "Foles worshippers, Nicky needs to do something" and "Nicky all you now baby! Do it!" Almost like he's waiting for him to fail so he could tell us how he was never sold on Foles. Not surprising Missanelli's reading something negative into Kelly's PC.

Foles did everything that was asked and more. Last he had the ball in his hand the team was winning and didn't turn it over once the entire game. Haters gonna hate.

This is exactly the sense I've gotten from Mikey Miss over the past 7-8 weeks. He wanted to be able to say "I told you so". Unfortunately for him he was dead wrong but reluctant to admit it.

He's been preaching all season long how you don't bring Kelly here and not get his guy at QB. No one on the current roster can run his offense...wait till he drafts "his guy"....blah blah blah. Then he finally realized Foles was playing himself into the "franchise" role. I think after that he was just waiting for failure. It never came Mikey! Foles is your guy, deal with it!

I think just about everyone in here (with the exception of maybe ShAH) had serious questions about Foles after the first Dallas game. I would even say that most in here were probably convinced that he was not the franchise QB. I don't know how anyone who watches this guy could still feel that way. I can't believe I actually heard callers today who still think Vick should be the guy next year :lmao:

ShaHBucks is definitely the Foles flag bearer (props!) but I can't remember too many being anti-Foles. I was all for this season being a "feeling out" process and was hoping Foles would be the guy out of camp. We had good reason to be unsure, but a lot of us were pulling for him. The people telling us Kelly couldn't win without a running option QB are wrong though, and Missanelli was one of them.

Anybody catch today's presser? Mikey Miss saying Kelly did not give Foles a complete endorsement. In a bizarre twist, Missinelli is now on Foles side but seemed to intimate that Kelly wants competition next year. That doesn't make sense to me...
I'm listening to Mikey Miss now and he definitely is not completely sold on Foles. For some reason, he has this obsession with scrambling QBs.
Not surprising Missanelli's reading something negative into Kelly's PC.Foles did everything that was asked and more.
I caught Miss' opening monologue at 2 pm where he said Roles was our guy moving forward. I go and run some errands and put him on again at 4 and now he's giving us the "he can't move in the pocket" schtick. I give up with Miss. He's gotta be contrarian for ratings but he's schizophrenic about Foles. One thing Miss said at the opening that I 100% agree with and I'd be willing to bet that most on this thread would agree too is that this was not that gut wrenching a playoff loss. Probably the last time we felt like this after a playoff loss was against the Rams in '01. I'm bummed we lost of course but I love being filled with optimism. How'd ya like to be the poor b@st@rds in KC?

Oh right...that used to be us...

ShaHBucks is definitely the Foles flag bearer (props!) but I can't remember too many being anti-Foles. It may not have been the posters in here. I just remember after that Dallas game most of the fans (at least on sports talk radio) had completely given up on Foles. I'm sure most of them have done a 180 by now.

I felt worse during the game than I did after. It was hard seeing the plays left on the field and the defense not being able to hold the lead than it was accepting the loss (if that makes any sense). Can't wait for the draft and what the off-season may bring.
