Scheme wise Vick was born to run this offense if he were inclined to avoid contact but he is too tough for his own good. Buy Foles

Sup?Seriously, love what I saw. Thought they could have kept the tempo up, but offense is clicking big time. Defense waaaay better than expected by most, special teams super solid. Love it. Love chip Kelly right now

Some interesting/revealing comments during the post game show in regards to the players and liking the coach. Westbrook alluded to Desean saying flat out that he didnt like Reid. Kelly saying they don't take themselves too seriously, don't run it like a business and like to have fun. Now Shady saying its the first time that a lot of guys in that room actually had fun playing football. Interesting comments referencing the past regime.

Every coach has an expiration date and Andy's was about 2 years ago. Sounds like the players were ready for a change too. When they saw what was happening on the defensive side of the ball, the locker room had to be shaking their heads too.

 
This was a pleasure to watch, The Post Reid Era.

Certainly not looking past the Chiefs/Chargers, especially with how the Chargers look so far tonight. Think the Week 4 Denver game will tell us so much, really looking forward to that one.

Chiefs first play of the game...PA deep pass lol.

1st half was great, 2nd half was what everyone feared. They got shredded with that prevent bull####. 27 plays compared to 50 in the first half.

I just did some stat checking and for week 1 ( not counting tonights 2 games )

36.7 was the average number of pass attempts15.7 was the average number of rushing attempts ( of those with 10 or more attempts ) That is basically a 70/30 split.

Couple of things I liked:

-The special teams coverages were great.

-While the offense stalled more in the 2nd half, Chip didn't just run the ball to try to run out the clock. He was still passing late in the 4th quarter. He wasn't going into a prevent offense.

Couple of things I didn't like:

-Avant trying to get extra yardage with a big lead. The risk of fumbling wasn't worth the few extra yards he was trying to gain.

-Getting beat deep on the last Redskins touchdown.

I attribute the things I didn't like to the Eagles not being used to playing with a big lead :cool:

 
Reflecting now, there was a ton to love about this game and a fair amount to be concerned about.

The offense in the first half was obviously excellent. The defense certainly had life. Special teams did a very nice job. For the most part, Vick was very good.

On the other hand, when the offense slowed down in the second half, it stalled. As RGIII got into the flow of the game and the Skins were able to get some positive plays, the defense waned. They certainly were the beneficiaries of the offensive assault that stunned the Skins and controlled the game tempo.

Overall, I think that it definitely should silence any of Kelly's critics who think that he can't coach in the NFL. Certainly defenses are going to adjust, but his offensive philosophy clearly can work. The offense stalled in the 2nd half, but that is likely more due to personnel (particularly at WR), than anything else. He obviously had a plan and executes the plan based on the situation.

No way not to be optimistic after last night.

 
One more thing I love:

Watching Shady juke his way past defenders in open space. While he is not quite as good as Barry Sanders, his moves are very Sanders-esque

 
Last night was exactly why I wanted Chip from the moment Andy was fired. One of the all-time great openers on par with TO's debut in 04 imo. Fun times were had by all. However...Vick is already hobbled and the defense gave up 27 points. Guys, that defense is going to give 25+ points EVERY GAME. They just don't have the 3-4 personnel. Hey if we can score 30+ week in and week out and keep Vick healthy then we have a chance at the playoffs. But reality says they were a 7-9ish team at best before last night and they are still 7-9ish today. Put whatever label you want on that...

IMHO, it looked like thay scaed the D back a bit in the second half.

 
I wonder about next week; if we get a lead early again, is Chip going to take his foot off the gas? They really faltered when he things slowed down and he acknowledged that last night..Seems like the Eagles defense began to give up points once the offense stopped moving the ball. Might be that the best defense is a 60 minute explosive offense.

One scary thing to think about: at this rate the offense will play the equivalent of about 26 games this year, based on typical play counts. That can't be a good thing leading into December and January...

 
Tale of two halfs. I don't know what to think. Chip's game managment was phenomenal, as was the run def. Run the ball when you're ahead vs going hurry up/pass heavy when the game is close is simplistic beauty. That makes me think he sits and plays Madden 24/7.

Vick went from dominant to one completion in the 2nd half. Odd game. We should roll over SD.

 
Its the First Rounders in Focus.

1.Eric Fisher, T, Kansas City Chiefs

Grade: -1.5

Snaps: 64

Analysis: A solid if unspectacular first showing from Fisher who would give up three hurries on 37 pass rushes. The disappointing thing, as it was during preseason, was his work in the run game which netted him a negative grade.

2. Luke Joeckel, T, Jacksonville Jaguars

Grade: -1.3

Snaps: 74

Analysis: Had some issues in pass protection, getting beat for a sack and four hurries to end the day with a 92.2 Pass Blocking Efficiency rating that was only the 42nd best out of 65 qualifying tackles. Hell have easier tests than the combo of Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

3. Dion Jordan, DE, Miami Dolphins

Grade: -1.7

Snaps: 18

Analysis: Dont expect a heavy snap count out of Jordan. Hes purely a situational pass rusher right now and thats what he spent Sunday doing. He was on the field enough to rush the passer 15 times and pick up his first sack in the process (though he didnt get anything else).

4. Lane Johnson, T, Philadelphia Eagles

Grade: +3.1

Snaps: 83

Analysis: Quite the debut from Johnson who excelled in the Eagles opening day victory. It was his run blocking that really stood out, earning the highest grade of any tackle in this regard.

@pdomo: 65 of Eagles' 77 offensive plays v. Redskins were with "11'' personnel (1 RB, 1TE, 3WRs). 169 of McCoy's 184 rush yds. came w/ 11 personnel.

 
heard today that eagles are a 9 point favorite. seems crazy, but chargers' o is really poor. if we come out and get a couple of early TD's, it will be over. We will destroy Dunlap and Fluker and tee off on Rivers.

I think it's more the intangibles. West coast team coming east to play a 10am game after a short week combined with a heartbreaking 4th quarter loss. Add to that what Philly's offense did and I can see the 9 pt spread.
