*** 2013 Official Philadelphia Eagles - NFC EAST CHAMPS*** (2 Viewers)

And I have a real problem with Desean taking a stupid, selfish penalty AFTER A TD. You got pushed out of the end zone which is a legal play. It was your fault. No need to come back and punch the defender because of your mistake, costing your team valuable yards on the ensuing kickoff with the game in the balance. Stupid and selfish, if I'm Kelly I fine his ###. I hope I'm wrong but I sense that might be because of them being buddy buddy with the coach, that the lack of discipline will show. I don't mind a players coach, but they need to know that dumb selfish crap won't be tolerated.

And not to mention that he was pretty close to one against Washington as well.

Agree with this and I have hope that this won't get out of control based on this example:

But he and Chip Kelly got off to a rocky start when the new coach didn't allow McCoy to make up a missed workout day that cost him $100,000, a source close to the situation said. Once practices began, McCoy fell in love with Kelly's up-tempo scheme.

Me too, thought that was a really strange call. It was just before the 2 min warning so time wasn't an issue. Take a cold QB and have him throw a fade to the smallest guy on the field.. Seemed almost like a designed throw away, but what's the point? I thought they should have just run it as well.
The bolded was the problem. Like someone else said they're probably expecting run, so I like the pass call, just not THAT pass.
Fair enough. One of those TE Seam reads might have gone OK there.

One thing I did notice from this game that I like from the offense. They struggled in the 1st half, but adjusted and improved in the 2nd. They scored points on every 2nd half possession except the final one (with 7 seconds or whatever to go).

Whatever they adjusted, it was good to see instead of AR/MM just doubling down on what didn't work in the first half.

Defense was a different story. Davis tried a lot of different pressures, and finally stuck with a 3 man rush since they weren't getting pressure with the blitz anyway. One thing I didn't see a lot of was outside pressure. Not sure if they didn't use Boykin (who hit Rivers hard one of the two times he blitzed) and Chung off the corners more because the secondary was so banged up already. They seemed to be protecting Dunlap a lot (imagine that?) so overloading from the opposite right hand side is something I think would have been worth a look.

Yep, that's what is making me come up with the buddy/coach theory. Two games and Desean seems out of control. Kelly needs to reign him in a little bit.

Chip said he didn't believe in rhythm. *shoulder shrug*

Was there a reason they played much slower this week? Did Kelly say anything?
not sure it was really slower, they just didn't have the ball as much. Drives in the first half were stalling. Week 1: 77 plays in 32 min, week 2: 58 plays in 19 min

They didn't have the same urgency. In first half against washington they were hustling to the line and snapping it quickly. Not so in that SD game.

They were hustling to me. Plays were snapped with 15+ seconds on the playclock just like week 1. SD stayed on the field longer than Wash did though. So it felt slower. Defense has to get off the field.

dunno, i was at the game and it looked fast. Just noticed this blurb from ESPN in their new power rankings, which would seem to confirm they were actually running plays faster.

There's the track meet everyone expected. Philly averaged 20.4 seconds per play, more than five seconds faster than last week, and gained 8.8 yards per play Sunday.

Agree with Insein and Bushead for the most part.

I do wonder if there's any chance that the short upcoming week played into it at all? Especially for McCoy? There are other logical explanations, but there might be some intuitive sense to not going all out if you know that you have another game in just 4 days.

I would guess that the difference in perception regarding the timing had more to day with the pass-heavy play calling vs. run-heavy. The running plays have everyone moving more in synch more closely together, so it looks like there is more constant motion.

This is bull####:

@CSNPhilly: The Birds on Thursday will become the first team in NFL history to open a season with 3 games in 11 days: http://t.co/SlbCspSZTQ #EaglesTalk
Whatcha gonna do?
This combined with issue last year when we played like 4-5 straight games against a team coming off of their bye has me a little pissed. I'm not making any excuses for potential poor play or losing a lot last year but things like this surely help...especially when youre not that good of a team to begin with.

Lets just hope it doesn't lead to any injuries. Of course there would be no proof that 3 games was the cause of injuries though. As far as prep goes we basically have a bye week for the Broncos now. That will go a long way from a prep standpoint if we can get pass Andy and A. Smith.

I thought I would see more secondary bashing discussions going. It will be long before Earl Wolff is playing most of Nate Allen's snaps.

And what do you guys think of Mychal Kendricks this game? Gates lost a step, but he worked our young ILB. I read somewhere he missed like 4 tackles as well.

I think it's because everyone expected the secondary to look that bad. It's a shame they dont take a look at some one like Kerry Rhodes, he could really help IMO

I was wondering about this too. I Don't get it.

Agree on Kendricks, for all his athleticism, he's very raw in coverage. No idea on footwork, techniques etc. and he struggles with man coverage as a result and veteran guys like Gates can really show him up. I'd like to see him do some work with the DB coach on improving his man coverage skills because he has the potential to be our best cover linebacker since Willie T.

He's taking on blockers more aggressively this year, but still missing too many tackles.

What your feeling on tonights game? Is KC legit or are they last years Cardinals? Can we really lose 2 straight at home?

I have to think we pull this one out. I'm going with 31-28

I am concerned TBH. Alex Smith is not an elite QB, but he is patient and will take what our "defense" gives him. I think Bowe will have a very large game tonight and Charles will do good as well. Reid knows Vick's strengths and weaknesses and I'm sure he will know how to exploit the weaknesses. Our only hope is that Chip puts the pedal to the metal and doesn't let up because this defense is effing terrible. At the end of the day, I am confident that Chip will show some wrinkles that he has yet to show. High scoring game tonight..

Bold prediction for the evening: Special Teams looks great: Damaris Johnson takes one to the house and thats the difference..Birds by a touch...38-31.

WOuld love to see Vinny Curry get activated and playing time... Get him on the field and lets get him experience and see what we got...

Can we just send him, Brandon Graham and Nate Allen over to the chefs sideline with a note to Andy that says "Is this your ####?"

I hope Reid gets a standing ovation at the start of the game - and a mock cheer for bungling a timeout/challenge at some point during :)

Should be a fun night - got my McNabb jersey on and looking forward to a little nostalgia before a 38-31 Eagles win

Anyone know a stream 4 this game? I don't get nfl network.
Are you in Philly? 6ABC is simulcasting if so.

No, thanks though.
I've used this one in the past, not the greatest but it works...

I'll see if I can dig up something else.

A couple sites get mentioned around here in other Thursday night game threads. Someone will have one in there tonight.Edit. Deion just said Vick has maturated into a full grown man. So that's good right.

5 turnovers.

Can't get off the field on 3rd down.

Vick missing guys who are open.

Sounds about right.
This one isn't on the defense. They went from forcing ONE punt to forcing 5 and forcing a couple FG attempts. D played their best game of the year.

The rest is right though :(

It isn't on the defense, but they didn't help either. Just b/c they played better than crap doesn't mean they were good either. They bent a lot but didn't break, so sure they get credit for that but 3rd and longs were abysmal and if they get off the field, that is more time for this offense and maybe then they have the legs at the end of the game.
