2014 Jazzfest Lineup - pretty good one (1 Viewer)

Wow. I've been to at least 10 Fests, that's easily the best lineup I can remember. I'd go to a Festival comprised solely of the artists mentioned after the 1:45 mark in that 2:22 video.

Have they ever had a bad lineup? Seems like they bring it every year.
I thought last year's lineup was terrible.

ETA: Relatively speaking, of course.
Headliners are stronger this year but the overall roster last year I thought was pretty strong. As you said, all relative.
And subjective. I love Jason Isbell and Alejandro Escovedo so obviously that put it over the top for me at the end. YMMV.

The 2nd Sunday at the Heritage and Brass stage alone will be full of Indian and Brass Superstars - mind blowing list on that day.

Boss - Phish - Clapton - Arcade Fire - Vampire - Xtina - String Cheese - Santana - Avetts - Robert Plant
I don't know all these bands, but this doesn't resemble jazz at all. Love Arcade Fire, but that's about as far from jazz as you can get.

Well Chick Corea is there, Branford Marsalis, Terrence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton, Pharaoh Sanders, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Rachelle Ferrell, Gregory Porter , Davell Crawford and more

ETA - it's also called the Jazz and Heritage Festival - nothing more Heritage than Christina Aguilera - although she can do this http://youtu.be/TUu2x-ux7kI

Love those artists. It's just a pet peeve of mine when jazz festivals feature bands that are in no shape or form jazz bands.

It's evolved with time, pretty well known that there will literally be every genre of music there. If you want traditional jazz, that will be there for sure.

FWIW, Phish already said they will be playing on Sat. April 26th.

Very strong lineup....I'm pumped

It's two festivals - the outer ring with the big acts, and the infield, which has all the jazz & heritage stuff.

I like the latter.... but the ticket prices have gotten stupid based on the former.

Consider French Quarter Fest and Satchmo Fest, also great alternatives (and free).

I haven't missed a year of Jazz Fest since I was ten years old. Might only go one or two days but I've never missed a year. This might be the year that I will probably end that streak. 35 years. The line-ups are garbage this year. They are now just recycling the same acts every few years. Springstein, Clapton, Plant, and Santana this year. Next year ZZ Top, Mathews, Sting, and The Eagles. Next year Tom Petty, Pearl Jam, Mellencamp, Kravitz, Fleetwood Mac, and whoever else. Rinse and repeat. They can't keep doing the same old crap every few years.

Well Phish is gonna hippie up the whole first weekend, so that's out. Second weekend looks decent, but I'm like Tchoupitoulas, probably gonna pass and just hit French Quarter Fest again.

Don't get me wrong, I think Jazz Fest is great for the city, and obviously they are doing something right, but it's just not worth the massive cost of attending anymore.

If you've not been to Jazz Fest, you need to go. Best music festival I've ever been to. Music, food, arts, surrounding neighborhood, everything. Awesome.

It's fun, but man, those are some long, hot days.
Not last year - froze my butt off. Not to mention smelling like a rose in the mud.

Best is to go to the Fest - then hit a couple of club shows getting out in the morning - then going back to Fairgrounds

When was Clapton there last - I bet it's been a long time.

Springsteen is always going to get the nod since the post-Katrina revival show.

I could do without Mellencamp, Eagles, DMB - on that I will agree.

ETA -that last Sunday looks really good to me. But since you live there it may not be all that and you can hit up most of them at FQF.

It was hot as hell when I went two or three years ago. I had no thought of doing anything other than collapsing at the end of the day.

Last time I went to Jazzfest A man was shot going to his car on the street. That was years ago. I don't go anymore. Too expensive, too many people, and you won't be able to get close if you want to see A headliner. F that.

Meh. It's not like he's pocketing the profits. The big acts draw the big crowd and make everything else possible. Jazz Fest is an excellent run festival, easily walkable, plenty of bathrooms, tons of very very good food options, etc.

It's way too cliche to "##### about the popular bands".....back in the day, etc etc.

Agreed - and the weather just sucked
Have been to two Jazz Fests - 2012 and 2013

Went in 2012 because of the big name artists (BNAs) with a trip setup after the lineup came out where my wife and I wanted to see Springsteen on 1st weekend but LOVED the BNAs on 2nd weekend that we hadn't seen (ZBB, Eagles, Foo). She was like "why don't we go BOTH weekends" and I'm like :tebow: - weather that year was awesome.

We has so much fun, so last year, we setup the 2013 trip months in advance of the lineup announcement. Artist roster was not so good and the weather made it even worse. The Mavericks on 2nd Friday at Gentilly absolutely killed it though but we decided that we did not need both weekends..

This year, we decided that we would go the weekend with the better lineup - so we are going to head down 1st weekend.

There aren't many venues like Jazz Festival. As I stated above, I've never missed a year. And for good reason.. There aren't many like it for the price and experience. I think it was $80.00 at the gates last year. That's a reasonable price for an all day event. I'm just tired of all the money they try and make on the side. It's supposed to be a non-profit. Somebody's makking a profit when I throw $120.00 up for a case of Coors Lite.

It's still a bargain, but it's crazy how much prices have gone up in a short time. My first fest was in 1999 or 2000. Tickets were under $20 and beer was $2- and again this is less than 15 years ago, not some "back in my day" old man rant. I thought they they were joking. I bought a 12 pack every trip to the beer stand and handed a couple of 'em out to people on my way back to my blanket.

Sucks that those days are gone, but the big names bring a lot of tourism money to the city post-Katrina which is obviously good. And I like to think that a lot of people will be like I was that first year- there for the party but end up falling in love with the local music and whatnot and coming back to visit often. I think I'm doing French Quarter Festival this year.

$5 for a beer is a pretty good price for a large festival. It's $9.50 for a 16 oz beer at the Superdome

Plus I know for a fact that $1 from every beer sold goes to the group (all non profits) that are working the beer booth
