UCLA edge player Anthony Barr ran a 4.45 forty on Tuesday at UCLA's Pro Day.
Barr ran a 4.66 at the combine, to put this number in context. He hoisted up 19 reps on the bench press on Tuesday, four more than he mustered at the combine. We don't put much stock into the improvements. Pro days, unlike the NFL Combine, are catered to the players and putting each in a position to post impressive testing numbers. Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay dropped the edge rusher from No. 16 to No. 28 overall in late February.

Orange County Register's Ryan Kartje reports that two scouts told head coach Jim Mora that UCLA OG Xavier Su'a-Filo is the "best guard prospect since All-Pro Steve Hutchinson."
"Two scouts told Mora that Su’a-Filo is the best guard prospect in the draft since five-time All-Pro Steve Hutchinson, who was drafted out of Michigan in 2001," Kartje wrote. The Steve Hutchinson comparison could be a little bit of a stretch, but Su’a-Filo's stock has risen over the last couple of months. His experience at guard and tackle, paired with his athleticism and speed has impressed scouts. He has a chance to go in the end of the first round or perhaps the second round of the draft.

Saffold is penciled in at RG. Their LT is coming off a blown knee and is not the youngest cat in town. I think the Rams take one of the top three tackles no matter what. I think the best case scenario is to have someone fall in love with Clowney and trade up to get him. If that were Atlanta, I'd be elated...

Does one really think that these guys will come in as rookies and replace Decker? I think they go vet or stick with Caldwell. Will Peyton tolerate a rookie WR.? He has made great names out of some average WR's if they just do what he wants done Brandon Stokely.

i still think they're looking to trade down but will happily draft OT Robinson if no one steps up.

That's my thinking too. Too bad there are a couple other really good OT's in the draft or there might be more trade partners. Otherwise all we have is people geeked about one of these QB's which seems a bit of a stretch to me and Clowney. Otherwise the Rams have to stand pat. And I'm OK with that.

Yes, if I had to put money down on what they do, that would be it pretty much.

Though I think if they get enough of an offer to trade down, that would be the Texans preference.

Agree with everything except for the trade for Mallet part. Unless we are talking a 5th rounder or something. No way the 3.01 for a guy with barely any regular season snaps who is, more importantly, in the last year of his deal.

In NFL.com writer Bucky Brooks' "Man vs. Machine" series, a computer projection listed DeMarcus Ware, Dion Jordan and Barkevious Mingo as comparisons for UCLA edge rusher Anthony Barr.
Barr, who began his collegiate career as a running back, collected 23.5 sacks and 41.5 tackles for loss over the past two seasons. UCLA coach Jim Mora compares him to former All-Pro Julian Peterson. "I see the similarities in their physical appearance and games, which is why I've routinely offered up the same comparison when asked about Barr," wrote Brooks. "However, I must admit that I'm intrigued by the computer's suggestion of DeMarcus Ware, because the physical dimensions and athletic measurements are comparable. Of course, Ware is a bit more explosive based on the 40-time and vertical jump, but the closely matched 3-cone time suggests Barr could be a terrific rusher turning the corner off the edge. Given the importance of getting to the quarterback, the ability to 'bend and burst' around the corner could make him a Pro Bowl-caliber playmaker at the next level."

Buffalo edge player Khalil Mack is no lock to be drafted in the top-five picks, writes NFL.com's Charles Davis.
Mack slots No. 1 to the Texans in ESPN.com draft expert Mel Kiper's most recent mock draft, and he's one of the draft's highest-rising prospects at the moment, but Davis correctly points out that there's plenty of time left to go until May's draft. "Anthony Barr was supposed to be the No. 1 outside linebacker available, but the consensus is Mack has surpassed him," wrote Davis. "Before it's all said and done, though, I think Barr, who apparently was very impressive at his pro day this week, gets back into his conversation because it's the nature of the process. It's a rollercoaster, and the ride hasn't stopped for Barr or Mack."

NFL.com's Charles Davis believes it's a myth that Auburn's Greg Robinson is clearly superior to the draft's other top-tier tackles, Jake Matthews and Taylor Lewan.
Robinson has catapulted up draft boards due to his supreme athleticism and his importance in Auburn's offensive attack, but Davis cautions against those that are ready to crown him the draft's top OT two months before the big day. "You have to take into account that Auburn was a spread-style running team," wrote Davis. "He was a mauler, but he's moving into a passing league. So, he still has something prove as a pass protector. Given his athleticism, it's expected that he'll be just fine in that area, but there's not the volume of tape to review that there is with Lewan and Matthews. So, is Robinson clearly better? Matthews been doing this for a long time and I think before the draft process started, he was considered the top left tackle in the draft. He had a good combine. Lewan is a four-year starter and he put on a very impressive show at the combine. The consensus pecking order could still change in this race."

Although some experts believe Alabama T Cyrus Kouandjio has lost his opportunity at a Round 1 selection, ESPN's Mel Kiper assigns the Crimson Tide enforcer to the Panthers at No. 28.
Kouandjio shredded his ACL and MCL as a freshman and minor cartilage issues persist in his knee today. Because of his arthritic knee, several NFL teams failed him on combine medical exams. That's not his only current problem, however. Last month, draft insider Tony Pauline called Koaundjio's combine workout "sluggish, slow and totally unprepared" after the big left tackle posted an official forty time of 5.59 seconds (slowest amongst tackles) and 10 yard splits of 1.79 and 1.87 seconds. The 6-foot-7 tackle, once thought to be a Round 1 lock, only registered 21 bench press reps. "There were some concerns about his medicals at the combine, but Kouandjio is going to come in healthy and ready to contribute," wrote Kiper. "And it's worth remembering that he won't turn 21 until after the draft. While Kouandjio has a high ceiling, he's not merely a physical talent who could develop -- this is a kid who was battering SEC defensive linemen at the age of 19."

UCLA edge rusher Anthony Barr was selected by the Titans at No. 11 in Mel Kiper's mock draft.
Once seen as a top-10 lock -- and a top-5 probable -- Barr has slipped down draft boards as scouts and decision-makers have dove deep into his less-than-meets-the-eye game tape. He'll only need one team to dream big on his athletic upside to shoot right back up the board, however. "Barr has seen his stock slip some, but he put together a good pro day, and gives the Titans another pass-rusher aside from Derrick Morgan," wrote Kiper. "In general, drafting the best possible player supersedes need unless the value lines up with need pretty well, but this is a spot where the needs are multiple and I can just see the team taking the best player. Barr can provide an early impact."

ESPN's Mel Kiper wrote that Michigan T Taylor Lewan "could have graded out as the top tackle last year if he chose to enter the draft."
Considering that three of the top four picks in 2013 were OTs -- the Chiefs took Central Michigan's Eric Fisher No. 1, the Jags selected Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel No. 2 and the Eagles tabbed Oklahoma's Lane Johnson No. 4 -- this is lofty praise indeed. Lewan slots No. 9 to the Bills in Kiper's mock draft. "I like Cordy Glenn, but protection was still a problem for the Bills last year, so I have them placing a higher priority on keeping EJ Manuel upright and shifting their attention to the deep class of wide receivers in Round 2 or 3." Kiper believes Lewan possesses "the prototypical length as a pass-blocker" and "really gets after it as a run-blocker."

ESPN's Mel Kiper doesn't believe the Jaguars will pass on South Carolina edge player Jadeveon Clowney if he's still available at No. 3.
In a recently published mock draft, Kiper, who currently sees Khalil Mack and Greg Robinson as the top two picks, presents a scenario in which the Jaguars could have their pick of the draft's top three QB prospects -- Blake Bortles (UCF), Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville), and Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M) -- and pass on them all. "The Jags decided to re-sign Chad Henne, and while I don't think they did so based on the idea he's an immovable object at starter, I do think they believe they can win football games with him starting if they improve everywhere else," wrote Kiper. "And Clowney certainly improves a pass rush that we've been talking about as a draft priority for way too long."

Despite having re-signed OT Roger Saffold, ESPN's Mel Kiper still believes St. Louis will tab an offensive tackle with the No. 2 pick.
In his most recent mock, citing starting OTs Jake Long and Saffold's health concerns, Kiper assigns the Rams Auburn's Greg Robinson. "The Rams can't afford to be thin up front in 2014," wrote Kiper. "I think this is an obvious spot where a trade could happen, but if you have the chance to draft a potential star at tackle in the same year you need to find out if the QB you've paid a lot of money is worth it, you may not want to overthink it. Robinson can be a special player, and the Rams would improve up front with him around, starting in Week 1."

Mack left little doubt about his ability to jump from the MAC to the NFL by finishing his collegiate career as the NCAA's all-time leader in forced fumbles and tackles for loss. "I've likened Mack to Pro Bowl LB Ahmad Brooks because of his explosive strength and power at the point of attack," wrote Brooks. "He bulldozes opponents at the line on the way to corralling quarterbacks or ball carriers in the backfield. I don't believe Mack will consistently win with power as a pro, which is why I have concerns about his ability to thrive as a No. 1 rusher for a defense. I see him as a complementary playmaker on the opposite side of a dominant rusher in a 3-4 set." Brooks pointed out that all three comparisons offered by his computer are 'complementary' NFL players, as opposed to superstars. "He might be ideally suited," wrote Brooks, "to play the role of Robin instead of Batman for an elite defense."

Houston goes Bortles at 1.

STL looking to trade back convinces whoever is interested in Clowney to trade up, "You have to get in front of JAX if you want Clowney. They have Henne and aren't a cinch to go QB at 3."

Say ATL trades up to 2 for Clowney and wa, la....Teddy lands in teh Jags lap.

The upcoming movie Draft Day uses the Browns as the framework for a fictional look at the process. But it would be awesome if the trailer dialogue was referring to the 2012 draft.

In a heated discussion about the risks of drafting a RB at 1.3 and a 28 year old first round QB, Costner is told "You're out of your mind.", he responds, "Yeah, I am, haven't I proved that already?"

After engineering the move up to 1.2 to "insure" getting Richardson and "sniping" his geezer rookie QB with the second pick later in the first, he starts high fiving and says - "I love this job!"

McClain is the most plugged-in reporter on the Texans beat. He says he has no idea if the pick will be UCF's Blake Bortles, Louisville's Teddy Bridgewarter or Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, but he's been adamant that it won't be South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney. The draft is 50 days away.

"Word around the league" at UCF's pro day is that the Rams are continuing to "actively" shop the No. 2 overall pick, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.
This is nothing new, as even general manager Les Snead has confirmed publicly that the team is willing to trade the pick. If the Rams are able to trade the selection, two outcomes are likely: 1) A team is wanting to move up for their favorite quarterback, or 2) Jadeveon Clowney is still available. These types of deals are made ahead of time, so expect to hear if the pick has been traded prior to draft day.

"But I'm not so sure Aaron Donald does not end up being the better pro when it is all said and done," Jeremiah added. "Because he is so dynamic and so electric as an interior rusher." Charles Davis notes it likely comes down to fit and scheme, which can be said about almost every situation. Rotoworld's Josh Norris ranks Donald as the No. 12 prospect in this class, far ahead of Jernigan, and believes the latter fits best as a 1 technique nose.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain still expects the Texans to take a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.
McClain is the most plugged-in reporter on the Texans beat. He says he has no idea if the pick will be UCF's Blake Bortles, Louisville's Teddy Bridgewarter or Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, but he's been adamant that it won't be South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney. The draft is 50 days away.

McClain, while there is a lot to dislike about him, is indeed probably the most plugged in reporter for the Texans.

That said, McClain himself recently told how he was adamant they were going to take Reggie Bush up until the moment he got a text saying they had signed Mario Williams. McClain was actually doing a radio show and had just said the Texans would take Bush, then it went to commercial and the text came in. After which he joked that he'd rethought the matter during the break and was changing his prediction to Mario, before then breaking the news they had signed him.

By which I mean, just because he's "the most plugged in" doesn't mean he knows what they will do.
