Miami Beach baby!
His first thought of being excited about the beach should thrill Miami fans.
Yeah, big men don't normally gravitate heat and humidity. Getting a real Albert Haynesworth vibe on this cat.
He doesn't want to pay state taxes on the giant contract he's signing.
I doubt that's anywhere in the top 25 reasons in his factoring.
By and large, while it IS real money, the savings aren't worthy of life changing decisions.
Players still pay federal tax.
THey still pay up to the max on FICA.
They still pay 1.45% on Medicare of their salary.
They still pay the 35% on those big bonuses.
They still pay city tax, which can easily be more overall in a city like Miami over, say, playing in KC.
Every time they play a road game (half their salary on the year, those cities require pro-rated two days salary paid to their cities because they are "working" in their cities.
The cost of living" Detroit Michigan or Miami Florida? Which city is your dollar going to go farther?
Associated costs of selling a house and purchasing another, relocating, putting kids in different schools, etc, etc.
If it were as simple as the no state tax, everyone would want to play for the Bears (Ill, 3%) and nobody would want to play in California (10.3~%).
THis comes down to lifestyle and that's fine. Maybe he even has family or something or a business venture. But any way you slice it, if you choose to move from Detroit to Miami because of state taxes on your regular wages, you're cutting your nose off to spite your face.
