2015 - Le Tour (de France) (1 Viewer)

Barring a crash, is it already assumed Froome wins this. Does anyone else have a chance? Tejay is sticking pretty close would like to see him get in there.

I don't totally understand the tactics but I do like watching the Tour De France.

Hell of a sprint finish there.
It also took some balls from Cav to stay on Griepel's wheel instead of moving to Renshaw's, but it was the right call.
Can you expand on this a bit? What was the biggest risk? If someone breaks in front of Greipel he's screwed? I really don't know.
In stage 2 and 5 (I think) Cav basically blamed a poor lead out train for not winning the stage (it's a little more complicated than that, but that's the basic gist)...in this stage Renshaw was there at the right place and time, looking to lead him out. Plus in general it's better to use your own man/team as you know they'll die before the line (and generally where they will die..,usually at 300 meters out) and thus can get around them with ease without wasting any energy. To stick on Griepels wheel meant he a) could get boxed in(almost happened) b) Griepels may be going too fast to get past c) by doing so piss off your team even more.

It looked like Lotto had the same trouble Etixx sis in stage 2 and 5 and left Griepels a little too far out.

In the past these teams would get the timing better, but these stages have been a little too tough and so many teams are trying to lead out sprinters that the sprinter teams are ending up a man short...Etixx is also hampered here with Martin going out as he could do almost all the work from 4 km to 1.5-2.

These Eurosport announcers are the absolute best, ragging on their own network:

"Unfortunately the guys who set up our time check screens have either magnifying glasses or very strong eyes because we can't see a thing. It might as well be braille to us!"

Mountains can't get her soon enough for team BnB.
"Nairo Quintana likes this"

I didn't expect Nibili to be over 2 minutes down going into the mountains. Especially annoying that I took him over Tejay and gutted my team elsewhere to do it. Oh well.

not sure why, but i don't like froome at all. tj is so boooooooooring, bmc loves them some vanilla leaders. here's to quintana doing something magical in the mountains. OR!! sagan meets with ferrari tonight and gets the newest, greatest, wonder drugs and climbs like an angel.

The sportsbooks certainly have Froome as an overwhelming favorite right now to win this thing. Tejay comparitively is close to 15-1.

How likely is it that Froome does't win (barring an injury)

unless he has a really bad day or gets injured, it's his. contador is the only contender close enough, imho, to challenge him. tj isn't a contender, he'll do well and plod up the mountains, but he has no kick to stay with the best climbers. quintana has a slight chance. i hope it's entertaining and we some magic in the mountains

To my novice watching (i have watched the Tour a few times but that's it), I find I don't care so much about the yellow. Maybe because every year I watch it's already a foregone conclusion who's going to win.

Love the final sprints (I assume most people do) and I care about the individual stage results more than the overall. To me, the green is way more interesting then the yellow.

The TTT are not days I am interested in.

Both Contador and Nairo (especially Nairo) could put enough into him on a climb. I think Nairo is the best pure climber, but he'll have to drop him probably 3 times at this point.

TJ and Nibali are fighting for podium places and shouldn't be able to outclimb Froome on a consistent basis.

Team time trials blow. Not sure why they brought them back. Even a pancake flat stage has more to it.
My guess is they wanted it so they didn't "have" to have another TT which are frankly even more boring. At least the TTT has moving parts, etc. Frankly they should just get rid of all TTs, but I'm sure the industry would be in a huff over that.

BTW, we may, if Froome rides away from everyone, know the winner tomorrow as they go up the first HC climb at the end. First 10 kms of it are a beast, so if anyone is feeling good they will take some time.

If you want an exciting Tour for the next 2 weeks, hope Quintana can put some time into Froome.

Two data points now on hardcore dopers ending up getting ball cancer. Warrants mentioning.
Chicken or the Egg?

Didn't Lance get ball cancer, and then start doping (I always assumed he was using the ball cancer to disguise some of the creams he was using).

Or was Lance just an ineffective doper who got ball cancer, and then really learned how to dope?

Or it's just noise...1 out 263 men will develop it, so 2 cyclists getting it in a professional peloton that must number close to 1000 over close to 20 years should probably be about the average...

now I wait someone to point out more testicular cancer cases in the pro peloton.

Lance was on stuff back to 1992 and maybe earlier. Most of it was at that point was testosterone applied with a patch to the ballsack. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. Luckily ball cancer is fairly easy to treat.

So Froome's 2013 SRM data up Ventoux was apparently hacked and put on the web...lets just say the data is otherworldly and leave it at that. Sky's in full spin mode. Never a dull rest day.

On monday night a video was posted on Twitter showing Froome's famous climb of Mont Ventoux in the 2013 Tour overlaid with data including his heart rate, power, cadence and speed.
Is there a link to this?

Video has been removed, but data was real...

Basically 50 minutes at a 400 average with a 30 second attack at 600-50 and another spike to 900 wand then right back down to 400 with no real spike to HR. Keep in mind he just rides away from the 2nd (Contador...presumed doper) and 3rd (Quintana) riders in the Tour at different points in the climb.

Lars Boom, WAIT!!!

At least I got a couple points out of him from the TTT... that's two riders down for me, and another who has to drop any day now :(

ETA:

Tweet translation: "Unfortunately, I won't be starting today anymore. Caught a fever and the flu the night before the rest day."

I was cool with the time bonuses in the first week, but I am not so sure how fond of them I am on the rest of the tour.

This is 2001-5 Armstrong stuff and not in a good way. He's going to be up 3 minutes on everyone after this stage...keep in mind Armstrong's biggest win was 6 minutes 44 seconds...we may be looking at a 10 minute win if Sky wants to race the rest of the way.

I don't clearly remember some of Postal's antics, but having Froome do that, Porte ride back and then pass Quintana to finish 2nd, and then have Thomas who rode everyone off besides Quintana and TJ ride casually in with Valverde is quite possibly the best team doping performance ever. Savior it.
