2015 New York Giants - WK10 Cruz announces season ending calf surgery (1 Viewer)

Bad loss yesterday but looking on the bright side it helps improve the draft pick (I think)

I think help on either line would be a top priority
Giants haven't done very well with their draft picks since Reese's first season as GM and I believe Ernie Accorsi was working in a consulting role for them that season. Reese is really bad
Well Beckham was a pretty bold pick that definitely worked out. I was pretty upset about them not taking Aaron Donald when he surprisingly fell to them, but I think looking back we will always say Beckham was a great pick. There's no doubt that they'd be happy if they had Donald either though.

Giants to bring in CFL 2013 Rookie of the Year and 2014 Offensive Lineman of the Year for workout.

Brett Jones left Regina on Sunday en route to Florida, but he’s not vacationing.

The Calgary Stampeders centre and University of Regina Rams alumnus was headed for Tampa Bay, where he’s to work out for the NFL’s Buccaneers. From there, he’s to travel to New York City, where he has a workout scheduled with the Giants.

Those are the only workouts Jones currently has planned, but other teams have told the 23-year-old Weyburn, Sask. product that they’ll be in touch after their seasons are over.

It’s pretty heady stuff for Jones, who was named the CFL’s top rookie in 2013 and its most outstanding offensive lineman in 2014.

“At first, I was pretty nervous about it all because I don’t know what to expect,” Jones said before leaving Regina. “I’ve been trying to talk to as many people as I can to get the best idea possible of what to expect.

“I’m really excited. This is what I’ve worked for (over) the past two years, just to get this chance.”

After a standout career at the U of R, Jones was considered a lock to be a first-round pick in the 2013 CFL draft.

But he told teams before the draft that he was thinking about going to medical school, so many steered clear of him. He fell to Calgary in the second round (16th overall) — and became the steal of the draft when his medical school aspirations fell through.

Now, the 6-foot-2, 318-pounder is focused on turning his success in the CFL into an opportunity in the NFL.

“Out of university, I didn’t get to go to the Shrine Game (NCAA all-star contest) or any all-star game,” Jones said. “I always just wanted a chance to show I could play.

“(The NFL) has pretty much been my goal the whole time that I’ve been in the CFL. I knew that if I wanted to get a chance to play down there, I’d have to prove it in the CFL.”

The accolades he has received — two league awards, two West Division all-star nods and a spot on the all-CFL team in 2014 — have proved his worth.

Jones is grateful for everything he has got and learned during his time with the Stampeders, including a Grey Cup ring from this past season. He just believes that now is the time to try his luck in the NFL.

“It is a risk, but it’s something that I feel like I should try — and I think I’ve earned the try,” said Jones, who at the moment isn’t looking at the CFL as a good fallback if things don’t pan out down south.

“If I’m going to give the NFL a shot, it’s NFL or bust.

“I don’t want to have that, ‘Oh, whatever. If I get cut, it’s not a big deal.’ It is a big deal. I really want to get a chance to play.”

Aside from seeking advice on what he can expect during the workouts, Jones also took a hands-on approach. He bought an NFL football at a Regina sports store to practise his snapping.

There have been suggestions that Jones is heading to other NFL teams — the New England Patriots and New York Jets have been mentioned — but he doesn’t have anything set up with anyone other than the Bucs and Giants.

That said, Jones admitted he likes reading the rumours since they indicate he may get other looks.

“The number goes up all the time,” he said. “I have to call my agent to keep myself updated.

“I let my agent handle that stuff and I just worry about working out.”

If no NFL offers materialize, Jones is eligible to file for CFL free agency Feb. 10. Even though he undoubtedly would be a wanted man around the league, he hasn’t pondered what might happen in two months.

“I’ve spoken with (the Stampeders) and they know my thoughts,” Jones said. “I’ve always tried to be as forthright as possible and whether that hurts me or not, I just want to be fair to everybody. I think that has worked out best for me.

“I haven’t really thought about free agency. I’ve been more focused on the workouts.”

This Brett Jones guys seems like an interesting prospect

So who are the Giants top priorities in regards to resigning? JPP and Prince?

JPP

Prince

Thurmond

Rolle

Players they need to decide on:

Beason - Salary only raises $437k due to money back since he went on IR. Also guaranteed $900k of his contract so I think he stays for 2015.

Kiwi - gone

Eli- will they extend him this offseason or have him play out his contract. I think he gets extended.

Offensive line needs depth and a starting guard. Very possible they get that in FA or the draft.

asked this in the odell thread... what would your forecast be for this team if they were the 6th seed...

Pressure is off, and they have not beat anyone good this season BUT they are definitely cranking at a high level right now.

I think they could beat anyone in the NFC outside of Seattle in Seattle

Still too much talent lacking. I don't think they could beat Seattle, Cowboys, Packers. Philly and the Lions would probably beat them too.

thers no way Coughlin desevres to come basck, missing playoffs 5 of past 6 years is WORSE that Rex Ryan, among others..there have been far too many blowouts, shutouts, blown leads over the past 30-40 games that it's baffling to see that the Mara's are interested in keeping Coughlin around for another season..

and thi blanket answer: " well, who are you going to replace him with" doesn't hold water..perhaps you make a big play for Harbaugh, despite his Michigan inclination..

there are plenty of good coaches you could replace this guy with..I know he won two SBs but hasnt done a single thing since..enough is enough..

I think Coughlin stays. Eli has about 5 years left to his playing career. I don't see them getting rid of Coughlin, bring in a new coach which could mean a new OC, so the team has to start learning another system. Coughlin will stay if he wants to for another 3 years. By then the Giants should be looking for the future QB and I'd think they'd want their next coach to be drafting that player.

Fewell for sure has to go. Yes, he's had injuries, but I've seen other defenses get a pass rush with less talent.

A few weeks ago the owner said they'd make moves once the SB was over because the team didn't want to be a distraction from the NFL. Shortly afterwards he said that the team would make decisions once the season ended and not wait. I'm hoping the get busy Monday morning. I don't want them to miss out on new coaching hires if they make any, because they wait on it.

I want him back too. I've read posts of fans on other sites saying to let him walk but I think that would be a mistake. Yeah his numbers have been down, but then again the team hasn't been good and Fewell's defense is terrible.
JPP is young, talented and when healthy productive against both the run and pass

He is probably going to get at least 10m per season from someone

Fewell needs to go and that's it. Keep the codger and Ben for continuity, but this defense needs a serious shot in the arm and they can contend again.

This would be ideal. I know it won't happen, but I hope they at least try to explore it. Rex is in NY at the present moment without a job and they need to call him up.

Tom Coughlin has been told that he will return to Giants in 2015, but still has a meeting with John Mara today re: potential staff changes.

Dan Graziano @ espn

Giants end up with the 9th pick in the 2015 draft.

Per BBI:

Giants 2015 Opponents Set: The New York Giants will play the following teams in the 2015 NFL regular season:

Home Games:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Redskins
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • New England Patriots
  • New York Jets
  • San Francisco 49ers
Away Games:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Redskins
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Buffalo Bills
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Minnesota Vikings

Eric, the guy that runs BBI says his sources say Fewell is gone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ken Norton Jr. the SEA LB coach would be worth a look as a replacement. Hawks have a bye so they could bring him in this week.

Pepper Johnson did a good job as Bills Dline & LB coach. Was with the Pats before that and wants to be a DC.

I thought this was clear by their lunch date, but ... A source confirms Giants GM Jerry Reese is returning for 2015, too.

Tom Coughlin didn't waste any time filling the New York Giants opening at quarterbacks coach, bringing Mike Sullivan back tot he role he held in 2010 and 2011.

The opening was created when Danny Langsdorf left the Giants Tuesday to return to the college ranks as offensive coordinator at Nebraska.

"Mike Sullivan is a quality football coach and is an outstanding positional coach and did a great job for us as a receiver coach and as a quarterbacks coach," Coughlin said. "He was the first thought that I had and we were fortunate in that the timing was right to get him back here. We're very pleased to be able to bring him back home."

Sullivan was with the Giants as an assistant from 2004-2011. He was wide receivers coach until 2009 and served as quarterbacks coach his final two seasons. Sullivan then spent two seasons as offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being let go after the 2013 season.

During Sullivan's two years as quarterbacks coach Manning completed 61.9 percent of his passes for 8,935 yards, 60 touchdowns, 41 interceptions and a passer rating of 89.2. He had career-high totals of 31 touchdown passes in 2010 and 4,933 yards the following season, when the Giants won their second Super Bowl with Manning as quarterback. It is impossible to prove that there was a correlation, but Manning's performance fell off the two seasons after Sullivan left for Tampa Bay.

Conflicting reports. BBI has Fewell is done according to his sources and BBV has Fewell is staying. TC has only said all are being evaluated. He hasn't come out and said Fewell and Quinn will be back next year when asked.

My opinion is that Ownership has given Coughlin an ultimatum of have a winning season or get to the playoffs or you're done. And they are letting TC decide what coaches he wants to run with.

@AdamSchefter reported: Perry Fewell let go as Giants DC this morning. :tebow: Looks like Eric who runs BBI was the only one who's source had it right. Tom Rock for Newsday stated on Monday that Perry would be returning.

Possible Spags return per Rotoworld:

The Giants are expected to reach out to Ravens DBs coach Steve Spagnuolo regarding their defensive-coordinator vacancy.
It would be quite the reunion after Spagnuolo put himself on the map with a wildly successful two years as the Giants' defensive boss from 2007-2008. He was the mastermind of the defense that shut down Tom Brady and the 18-0 Patriots in the 2007 Super Bowl. Spagnuolo then became the head coach of the Rams in 2009, finishing with a pitiful 10-38 record across three seasons. His stint as the Saints' defensive coordinator in 2012 was abysmal, as the Saints fielded the worst defense of all-time in yards allowed. He's rehabbed his value in Baltimore.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Glad Perry is gone! Spags though, don't know. I was hoping for Pepper Johnson.

ESPN Giants writer Dan Graziano expects ex-Falcons coach Mike Smith to be a candidate for New York's defensive-coordinator vacancy.
Smith is said to be "well liked and respected" by coach Tom Coughlin. The two have never worked together, but Smith took over as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator in 2003, the season after Coughlin was fired by Jacksonville. Graziano mentions Bills DL coach Pepper Johnson, Ravens DBs coach Steve Spagnuolo, Falcons DC Mike Nolan, ex-Raiders coach Dennis Allen, Bills DC Jim Schwartz, and 49ers DC Vic Fangio as other candidates for the Giants' DC gig.

Odell Beckham Jr. has been added to the Pro Bowl roster.

Some interesting potential options for DC. Not sure who I would want the most. Who do you guys want to be the next DC?

I'd like Pepper Johnson or the Panthers LB coach Al Holcomb. Ken Norton is another I'd like.

From Big Blue View on Pepper Johnson as possible DC: http://www.bigblueview.com/2015/1/12/7528787/scouting-pepper-johnson-what-we-do-know-about-him-ny-giants-rumors-news

The bigger question is probably why Johnson never got promoted to defensive coordinator, and for that I reached out to Richard Hill of Pats Pulpit.

With Pep, he's been with Belichick forever, so Bill either has a great understanding of where Johnson's ceiling is, or he's unable to overlook his potential. He was drafted to the Giants, with Belichick. Went to the
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/cleveland-brownsBrowns
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/cleveland-brownswhen Belichick went there, and then went to the
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-jetsJets
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-jetswhen Belichick was there. Once he retired, he joined the staff under Belichick in New England in 2000.
I lean towards the "Bill has a great understanding of his ceiling" notion, but that's not to say Pep doesn't have potential- it's just that there were other candidates. When Romeo Crennel left in 2004, Eric Mangini received the nod, which is fine because Mangini had been a coach under Belichick and left the Jets to come to the Patriots. Mangini was only a coach for one year before moving to the Jets, and was replaced by Dean Pees.
This could've been the first case of overlooking Pep, since Pees had only joined in 2004. Still, Pees had been a DC under Nick Saban in college and had been a head coach at Kent State; he had a firm understanding of what it's like to lead an entire unit, so it's clear that Pep, with just six years of coaching experience, just wasn't ready.
That all makes sense, but it gets interesting in 2009 when Pees left.

Pees left in 2009, and then the Patriots opted to not have a defensive coordinator in 2010 and 2011- where the quality of the defense clearly bottomed out and they let up the second most yards all time in 2011. Big mistake on the Patriots part, and it showed an unwillingness to promote Pep.
So in 2012, Belichick promoted Matt Patricia, who had joined the team in 2004 with little experience, to be DC. Pep was a little ticked off and reasonably so.
The question is now, why was Johnson overlooked twice by a coach that Johnson had first played for, then worked for in some capacity for 20 years?

Well, the answer to that could be in an article on NESN.com that Richard pointed me to.

On Pepper:

"I think the big thing that Pepper brings to our staff that is really unique is that he's played in this system and he's actually done it out there on the field," Belichick told WEEI earlier this month. "That's been important, not just [to] our defense, but to our entire team, talking to players. He's got a wealth of experience, and he's very good at sharing that."
Meanwhile, the word on Patricia at the time was:

"He always knows what's going on all the time," Patriots linebacker
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2045/rob-ninkovichRob Ninkovich
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2045/rob-ninkovichtold WEEI. "He's very up to speed on everything. He knows the adjustments, he knows all that stuff. He's definitely telling us all the right information at the right times."
"He's a real good coach," added fellow linebacker
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1716/pierre-woodsPierre Woods
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1716/pierre-woods. "Very smart. Very intelligent. Has a great knowledge for the game when it comes to breaking down opponents. He does a great job."
At the time, Belichick decided to go with option three and not pick either one to be defensive coordinator, and their defense suffered. When he decided to have a defensive coordinator again, Belichick decided to go with Patricia.

Finally, Richard summed it all up with this:

Essentially, Belichick understood that Pep was a great positional coach, but didn't think he had the make-up to be a full coordinator. He thought that Patricia had a better understanding of the macro-scale impacts of setting up defenses, and that led him to make that choice.
This is all not to say that Pep can't be successful, but that there were other better candidates and he was never the #1 choice.

Just learned the Giants, who met with Raheem Morris on Friday for their DC job are not interested.

Heard John Mara today say that after the season, OBJ told him he was only playing at 80% this year. I can't even imagine that there might be an even better version of Beckham.

Per BBI: Tim Walton hired as DB coach

The 43-year Tim Walton was last employed by the St. Louis Rams as their defensive coordinator in 2013. Walton’s coaching bio:

  • 2013: Defensive Coordinator, St. Louis Rams
  • 2009-2012: Defensive Backs Coach, Detroit Lions
  • 2008: Defensive Coordinator, University of Memphis
  • 2007: Defensive Coordinator, University of Miami
  • 2004-2006: Defensive Backs Coach, University of Miami
  • 2003: Defensive Backs Coach, Louisiana State University
  • 2002: Defensive Backs Coach, Syracuse University
  • 2000-2001: Defensive Backs Coach, University of Memphis
  • 1999: Defensive Backs Coach, Bowling Green State University
  • 1996-1998: Running Backs Coach, Bowling Green State University
  • 1995: Graduate Assistant, Bowling Green State University

John Mara quote about Parcells was nearly brought back in '97:

“I was right in the middle of it, to tell you the truth,” Mara said. “We had some disagreement at the time about whether Bill should be brought back. And my father was very anxious to have him back. [Former general manager] George Young was not anxious to have him back.

So [late co-owner] Bob Tisch was kind of right in the middle of it, and I was kind of right in the middle of it. Bob kind of changed his mind at the last second and said, ‘OK, if you want to bring him back.’ In the meantime, George had already walked down the hall. Actually, I think it was the first time in his life that he ever ran. He ran down the hallway, and by the time I got a call from Bob Tisch saying, ‘Listen, if you want Bill Parcells back, I’m not going to block it,’ I ran down the hallway to get George, and he had already made the call and offered the job to Fassel. And we didn’t think it was right to withdraw the offer at that point in time. So that’s what ended up happening.

From BBI: http://www.bigblueinteractive.com/2015/01/14/john-mara-jerry-reese-tom-coughlin-hit-airwaves/

New York Giants President/CEO John Mara, General Manager Jerry Reese, and Head Coach Tom Coughlin were all interviewed on Wednesday afternoon on WFAN Radio. The audio from those interviews is available at CBS New York. Mara was also interview on ESPN Radio.

Some key points raised included:

Mara:

  • He is aware that the teams the Giants beat were not very good teams. He is under no illusions about how much work needs to be done.
  • Giants did not stick with Tom Coughlin because of what he did in the past but because they felt he was the best option moving forward.
  • Maintaining the same offensive system under Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo was a consideration for keeping Coughlin, but not the overriding concern.
  • It is OK if the coordinators have longer contracts than Coughlin.
  • Coughlin will make the decision on hiring the new defensive coordinator.
  • The team has struggled because of injuries and a bad couple of drafts. The 2013 and 2014 drafts were better.
  • Giants need to upgrade offensive and defensive lines as well as linebacker and safety.
Reese:

  • The Giants considered WR Odell Beckham a top 10 pick. They also liked OG Zack Martin. Anytime the choice is between a dynamic play maker and a guard, the team will choose a play maker. The Giants did have WR Sammy Watkins rated over Beckham, but had Beckham ahead of OT Taylor Lewan.
  • He thinks Weston Richburg, who played left guard in 2014, will be a terrific center and considers that his natural position.
  • Where Justin Pugh plays in 2015 depends on what offseason moves the Giants make.
  • DT Johnathan Hankins played extremely well and DE Damontre Moore made things happen when he played.
  • Having OG Geoff Schwartz, who missed most of the season with injuries, will help the offensive line.
  • The Giants need to protect QB Eli Manning better, but the new offense does help him get rid of the ball quicker.
  • WR Victor Cruz is on schedule to be back in 2015 after suffering a serious knee injury, but the Giants can not count on him returning.
  • Because of the attention Beckham receives, the #2 receiver should be “feasting” in terms of on-field performance.
  • The Giants did not do a good enough job of closing out games in 2014.
Coughlin:

  • Change was necessary on defense. The defense gave up too many big plays. He does not believe the new defensive scheme will be radically different.
  • The new offensive system was right for the Giants at this particular time. Manning improved his play at quarterback.
  • The Giants need to do a better job of stopping the run and running the football.
  • Believes the Giants are not that far way on the offensive line, but do need more help.
  • Believes Weston Richburg will make a big leap forward in 2015.
  • The Giants keep researching the injury situation. The team did cut down on soft tissue injuries in 2014, but the non-soft tissue injuries hit them hard.
  • The fans have been great to him. He feels badly for the last two years and wants a product on the field that the fans can rally around.

not liking this hiring..since he left NY years back, what has Spags done? nothing. the Rams went 10-38 with Spags as head coach. but, to one-up himself, he then took the Saints DC job in 2012 - then Payton was suspended.

Spags' Saints defense gave up the most yards in NFL history , and finished 7-9.the first thing Payton did when he got his suspension lifted, was to fire Spags..

this past year - 2014 - he was secondary coach of the Ravens - they finished 29th att, 23 yards, 25th in ints, 12 in Net Yards/A..

I mean seriously, could they have picked a WORSE DC than Spags? at this point they should've just kept Fewell..

after seeing what Vic Fangio did for the Niners, they G'men should've at least given him an interview and strong consideration for the job. and I hope Spags doesn't cause friction with McAdoo..

there's a reason Spags has bounced around in his NFL career.he's not a good coach..period..in fact, he's probably one of the worst in the NFL..

this was NOT a good hire..

Cruz on his rehab

On where he currently stands in his rehab progress from the injury:

"Now as I sit before you, I'm 13 weeks out from surgery, I feel great, no more crutches, no more leg brace, life is good right now. I'm now in the therapy process of building strength back in the leg, building strength back in the quad and the hamstring, and it's gonna take a lot of discipline, a lot of diligence to get this done. But at the end of the day, as all of you know I've worked extremely hard to get to this point of my life today so I want to continue to work as hard in this therapy process as I did the rest of my career."

I don't feel the same way.

Many coaches fail at their first shot at HC. Others just don't have it in them to be a HC.

The NO situation, was a train wreck of a situation where the chances of success were low.

I'm not 100% sold on him but he's got to be better than Fewell.

Rotoworld: Giants matriarch Ann Mara passed away at the age of 85 early Sunday morning.
Mara slipped at her home during a recent ice storm on January 18 and suffered a head injury that eventually took her life Sunday morning. She was the wife of former Giants co-owner Wellington Mara, who passed in 2005, and the mother of current Giants president and CEO John Mara. Ann was often dubbed the "First Lady of Football." The Maras have owned the Giants since their inception.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RIP. Great having the stability of the same ownership for so long.

From Rotoworld's article about possible cuts for the NFC East:

http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/52156/59/cut-candidates-nfc-east

NEW YORK GIANTS

DE Mathias Kiwanuka
Cap number: $7.45M
Cap savings: $4.825M
Cash savings: $4.825M
Dead money: $2.625M
Kiwanuka is one of the longest-tenured Giants, having been with the team since being picked 32nd overall in the 2006 draft. He started the first 11 games of 2014 opposite Jason Pierre-Paul, but has seen his skills erode as he embarks on his 32nd birthday next month. Kiwi is entering the final year of his contract and is scheduled to have the Giants’ fourth-largest cap hit. The G-Men need to get third-year DE Damontre Moore more snaps and address their pass rush this offseason, especially if they can’t re-sign Pierre-Paul. No matter what happens with JPP, Kiwanuka should be an easy decision.

MLB Jon Beason
Cap number: $6.692M
Cap savings: $2.858M
Cash savings: $5M
Dead money: $3.833M
When the Giants acquired Beason from the Panthers during the 2013 season, he immediately solidified their run defense. The G-Men rewarded Beason with a three-year, $16.8M contract last March. Beason then hurt his foot in June and missed all but four games this past season. The oft-injured linebacker has appeared in just 24-of-64 games the past four years. Beason is guaranteed $900K in 2015, and the Giants don’t have a capable in-house replacement. A pay cut probably makes more sense for both sides. The Giants need to make a decision before Beason is due his $2.2M roster bonus.

C J.D. Walton
Cap number: $3.625M
Cap savings: $3M
Cash savings: $3M
Dead money: $625K
After missing all but three games from 2012-2013, Walton signed on with the Giants and started all 16 games at center. He was destroyed as both a run and pass blocker, grading out as Pro Football Focus’ fourth-worst center out of 41 qualifiers. This will be an easy call for GM Jerry Reese. Second-year G/C Weston Richburg and CFL transplant Brett Jones will likely compete for the starting center spot this summer. Richburg is the heavy favorite.

LB Jameel McClain
Cap number: $3.4M
Cap savings: $3.1M
Cash savings: $3.1M
Dead money: $300K
McClain was signed to provide depth at all three linebacker spots. After MLB Jon Beason went down with his foot injury, McClain was forced to start 14 games for the Giants. He was exposed in the run game and isn’t natural in coverage at 250 pounds. The Giants desperately need to overhaul their linebacker corps. They were shredded in run defense this past season.

DT Cullen Jenkins
Cap number: $2.917M
Cap savings: $2.25M
Cash savings: $2.25M
Dead money: $667K
Jenkins started 11 games next to budding star NT Johnathan Hankins in 2014. He’s a quality pocket-pushing interior lineman, but is entering the final year of his contract and is seeing his cap number rise. With numerous other holes to fill, Jenkins might be able to keep his job. But much like linebacker, the Giants need a lot of help on the defensive line. Jenkins turned 34 last month.

RB Peyton Hillis
Cap number: $945K
Cap savings: $945K
Cash savings: $945K
Dead money: $0
Hillis turned 29 last month and had his 2014 season cut short by a concussion. It was his second in as many seasons. Entering the final year of his contract, Hillis has no guaranteed money left on his deal. He’s averaged just 3.6 YPC over the past four seasons after rushing for 1,177 yards with the Browns in 2010. Andre Williams is the Giants’ big back.

Giants sign CFL's top offensive lineman

Article says he is a center who probably cannot play other positions
Maybe he's just for depth or if he shows he can start, maybe Richburg will stay at guard.

Says Jones played Guard in college. May just end up being depth but would be great if he was able to man that hole in guard.
