2015 New York Giants - WK10 Cruz announces season ending calf surgery (1 Viewer)

Cruz had a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on Thursday to attempt to help the healing of his strained left calf. He will be re-evaluated on Monday. Head Coach Tom Coughlin said they are not considering putting Cruz on Injured Reserve at this point.

“Yeah, I got (the PRP) yesterday,” said Cruz. “I went over to the Hospital for Special Surgery and got that done. Hopefully it’s able to make me feel better, and hopefully advance the recovery process in any way, shape, or form.

“According to the MRI, (the setback) didn’t cause any further damage. It wasn’t as bad as the initial aggravation I suffered to the calf, so that’s a positive…When I went to burst and explode was when I felt it. The minute I felt it, I went over to the side and told the training staff how I felt. They immediately just shut me down…I’m going to make sure I take my time with this one this go around and see how that fairs for me this time around.”

When asked what the PRP would do, Cruz responded, “They said it’d be something that wouldn’t hurt. It wouldn’t hurt the muscle, it wouldn’t hurt anything, and if anything, it would make it feel better or it would be nothing.”

PRP is used to promote healing & decrease inflammation. Is painful initially and takes 2-6 wks to work. #Cruz @Giants

Giants have looked pretty good this year ... They are tuff as hell against the run and the DBs and LBs are better than expected.

The big problem is there lack of pressure ...QBs have 10 seconds to throw on 3rd and longs

I think Dallas is the best team in the division but Giants are clearly better than Philly and Skins

Good win and a much needed road win for the Giants today.

It does seem like the defense is getting better but honestly it’s hard to tell for sure since the QB’s they have won against (Cousins & Taylor) aren’t exactly blue chip QB’s.

Eli, Coughlin and McAdoo all need to sit down with a PlayStation, break out Madden and learn how to manage the clock in a ####### football game. Why on earth are they throwing in FG range up 14 under 5 minutes to go in the game. Run the ball burn some clock and let Josh Brown put you up 17.

Figuring a Welker signing this week.

Nicks was surprisingly spry with Titans and almost like he tired by end of preseason. Video at NFL.com which is jaw dropping from him but why'd he wear down? I wouldn't touch this

I like Fred Williams who KC cut from PS. He should be brought in for tryout, best available I can find other than Welker. He'd produce while the 'special athletes' wouldn't so I thought KC should make him active. Former arena league or CFL guy has awesome fight for the ball ability, if not top end speed and measurables.

Tre McBride and some others are sitting on PS around the league. Little reason for the Giants to not improve their depth by doing this even if they may not contribute much.

Kenbrell Thompkins still has PS eligibility and was cut by the Pats.

Waiting to hear they're hosing down their workout facility with bleach and acid and anything else that will kill what often seems like a mutant disease.

The Browns facility years ago was creepy. IIRC They paid a company 20k to clean it out, twice, and it didn't work. Remember Jurevicius retiring there?

I was thinking the same thing. They need to take every precaution with this. IIRC there was a similar outbreak in TB a few years ago as well.

TE Adrian Robinson will come in for a tryout Tuesday.

I wonder if it would be so difficult if they were to bring Hynoski back and use him as a blocking TE. He can catch too, but maybe they want someone who is a more dynamic pass catcher and route runner.

Week 5: vs. San Francisco

Week 6: at Philadelphia Eagles

Week 7: vs. Dallas Cowboys

Week 8: at New Orleans Saints

Week 9: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Giants should win all these games. It will be interesting to see if they can.
Counting road division games as wins even against a team as messed up as the Eagles, is getting a little ahead of yourself. I would say, though, that that should be a pretty good stretch for the Giants, as long as Eli and Coughlin don't have to try and figure out how to run the clock out at the end of the game.

In typical Giants fashion, they won't. Then they'll beat the Pats.
This...has me very nervous about picking them in my survivor pool this week. As stated in another thread, it is around that time for Eli to throw up one of his clunker home games. Hope I am way wrong, but it has happened too many times before.

Confirmed. Guys get ejected for that....and guys get no penalty at all. Just another example of inconsistency in NFL officiating.

I throw a punch too If I got a blind sided cheap shot like that

FBG email today stated the facility was scrubbed down for this

Cruz out this week vs 49ers.

Can't find the tweet by a beat writer that said the Giants are looking at Cruz possibly being ready for week 7.

The #Giants will play tonight, then reinforcements are on the way. Keep an eye on LT Will Beatty (pec), who could practice early this week.

It may take time to get into game shape, but sounds like #Giants LT Will Beatty made all the necessary progress. But will he play LT or RT?

Prince is always hurt. He such a good player only if he can stay healthy. The Philly WRs will have a great night with this secondary.

I think they should leave Flowers where he is put Beatty at RT when he is ready

Disgusting loss last night in Philly

A ton of things went wrong but the thing that started it all was dumb ### Damontre Moore…what a ####### idiot. I really think if he doesn’t get the roughing the passer call the Giants win that game.

The lack of pass rush was painful to watch as was the offensive line

I’m not sure why they keep taking Jennings out to give Williams carries

Oh well hope they can bounce back and win this weekend

That was a big play. You're about to get off the field for a second straight 3 and out and then that. It wasn't even close either.

I do think Coughlin is costing more games than winning at his point. Jennings was the one positive last night early on and Coughlin with his antiquated coaching style auto pulls him for half a game due to the fumble. It's like clock work. Fumble = sit for RBs. Not for WRs or QBs mind you. Just RBs.

Anyway, you guys gotta bounce back and bury Cassell this week.

VICTOR CRUZ REPORTEDLY IMPROVING…
According to The Bergen Record, there has been recent improvement in wide receiver Victor Cruz’s calf injury. Cruz supposedly is no longer experiencing pain in his left calf and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday to reassess his status. The Record says that if all goes well, Cruz could receive clearance to begin running again and then practice, perhaps as early as this week. It is unlikely that he would be able to play this weekend against the Cowboys.

I cannot understand why they keep putting Andre Williams in. He is terrible. I see nothing, no burst, no speed. They practically go in reverse when he is in there vs Jennings.

The way they use their RBs is mind boggling. They start with Jennings, and the offense looks good. Then the next series they put in Williams, who is just terrible. Then Vereen comes in. After that it's a crapshoot as to who will be running the ball. They have to face the facts. Williams is a bum. He can't run and he can't catch. Vereen can catch, but he can't run, yet they put him in and give him carries instead of using him as a receiver , which he is very effective as. Jennings can do it all, but they don't give him enough playing time to get into any rhythm. It was nice to see Dwarka in there, but it looks like they won't commit to him, either. Pick a friggin guy and stick with him. This RBBC is not working, and is literally killing their offense.

Sure, lose in the first round of the playoffs and pick 20th in the draft, whoopee. It's tough to get excited for a team so deeply flawed possibly winning a terrible division by default.
It's one of those seasons where "IF" they can get Prince, Beatty and Cruz back and they can produce and stay healthy, they might be able to make a run. Chances of them staying healthy to make a run is a big if. More likely with the Cowboys season over due to injuries, Philly being up and down, and Washington being who they are, the Giants will win the division when they really shouldn't have been.

Meanwhile, Dallas will be getting a really low draft pick when they have a team, when healthy wouldn't sniff such a low pick. Maybe the locker room will become toxic with Hardy, Dez and the losing.

Can Beatty play RT and if so will the Giants keep him next season? I don't expect that he'll take a pay cut if moved to RT.

Jennings looks old ... Dwarka looked like their best back tonight

Yep just like 2011

From Rotoworld:

Jason Pierre-Paul - DL - Giants
FOX Sports reports the Giants and Jason Pierre-Paul are expected to finalize a deal on Tuesday, and that the sides hope he can make his 2015 debut by Week 10.

Week 10 isn't considered a guarantee for his return, however. JPP will reportedly sign for less than the $870,000 he would have made per week under the franchise tag, but will be afforded the opportunity to earn back some cash through incentives.

Good to see him getting close to coming back – of course we don’t know what he can do but sure hope he can improve the pass rush

When is Beatty coming back?

Everyone focuses on the Cowboys injuries and I certainly understand that Romo and Dez are much bigger names but the Giants have had some very significant guys missing from the lineup. Prince Amukamura, Will Beatty, Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre Paul all missing time is huge.

I know Cruz and JPP are big time question marks but Price was balling out before his injury not only does he help the pass defense but he is very good in run support from the CB position. Not sure if Beatty will play LT or RT but he has to be an upgrade over Newhouse

Something weird just popped into my head...would you rather make it to the SB and lose to the Patriots, or finish 4-12, pick 7th in next year's draft and get a future HoF pass rusher?

Man, if JPP brings ANYTHING that is a plus. I'll settle for 3rd down and two minute drill pass rushing.

And as mentioned if prince gets back in three weeks and if beason (ha ha) can stay healthy we can dream.

Victor is just a lost cause I fear. Really likable guy, wish he focused on football and not side projects
