After realizing that the Warriors might be harder to defend than Boston, Tyronn Lue set to break out the "Secret Defense" they've kept hidden all year.

Warriors are playing checkers bro.  Cavs are waiting for KD to break his wrist on all of those uncontested dunks then they will pounce.

Between this and the Trump thread I'm starting to suspect that the FFA is actually hell, and the torture that Satan designed especially for me is to be right about things I desperately wish I was wrong about.

Idk, that 1st and 3rd quarter were fun to watch. Basketball is fun.

Casuals want close games and I get that but appreciate the high level of basketball.

I'm reading so much hate for Durant on the innerwebs, I don't get it.

Yea, he joined a good squad - but Lebron assembled an awesome squad in Miami, and then again in Cleveland. Isn't the point to win?

I'd like Cleveland to pick up someone like Gordon Hayward or Blake Griffin in free agency, eliminate the entire season and just have Cleveland play Golden State in a best of 21.

Yea I don't think you can hate what Durant did while loving Lebron. It's a fair point.

That said! I love greatness and watching lebron take down this superteam is a story I would talk about 20 years from now. The Warriors winning just isn't as good of a story.

Can someone explain how gsw did this with the salary cap and all that.  I dont watch basketball except the finals and wont even bother with that this year. So 10 words or less is fine

Tia

I don't hate on either them for it, nor would I hate on anyone for it. MVPs, scoring titles, etc. etc. are all pointless without the rings. Westbrook could put up 82 triple doubles next year and be out in the 2nd round again, he'd be left with a historic season, and yet another 2nd round exit. The whole point is to win, why wouldn't you want to be surrounded by the most talent? This argument is idiotic IMO.

Nobody looks back and says, yea they won, but look at the talent, it was bull####! You look back on a team and say "that was an amazing squad!" Watching this GS team, those are my only thoughts, "this team is amazing!"

& we shouldn't pretend this Cleveland team isn't stacked either, they have the best player in the game and two other all-stars.

Getting all of that talent to mesh like they do is a job well done by Mike Brown / Steve Kerr.

There was an unprecedented, one-time spike in the salary cap and Curry is underpaid, the combination of which allowed them to fit Durant in. They are actually under the salary cap this year.

and Durant already on the tape saying he'll take less to keep this squad together.

10 not enough but I'll make it quick-

Salary cap depends on league revenue- players get certain percent. New TV deals a couple years back created massive revenue and thus massive salary cap increases the last two summers, especially last summer when Durant was a free agent.  Suddenly almost every team had room to sign a player to a max deal. Golden State's three other stars signed long term deals before the massive increases, so they were locked in for relatively cheap and Golden State was in position to be one of those teams.

It was a perfect storm, a once in a lifetime type deal.

Also worth nothing the other factors that fell into place to make this happen- the players rejected the proposal to "smooth" the cap increase even though the sides were fairly close on an agreement that would have taken the smoothed-out cap increase and allocated it to the players through other means (in a fun twist, the union that turned it down is headed by Chris Paul and LeBron James- oops).  Also there's zero chance this happens if the Thunder hadn't blown a 3-1 lead in the conference finals last year, no chance Durant leaves a Thunder team that just took down the 73-9 Warriors and went to the Finals. Klay Thompson's performance in Game 6 in the WCF last year is gonna end up winning several titles for the Warriors.

i sound like a total :homer: sexual, but i'd really like to see Brad Stevens have a go with this team. Haven't seen much of the Durant Warriors cuz theyre on late and if i wanted to watch blowouts i'd watch college ball (or Celt/Cav reruns) and they're pretty amazing, but there was a lot of beboppin' & scattin' out there. It's ridiculous to say when they were so superior, but they left about 20 points off the table beyond Thompson's handstrung bricks. I'm guessing they'd observe their spacing a little better if Kerr was on the floor but, if we're going to see the best basketball ever played, i'd like it to be because the best are besting bestballs & all. especially in LeBron's big fat outraged face!

Luck on timing with draft and injuries to Curry. And what Tobias said with Durant.

If they do go up 2-0, I don't see them blowing it. They've got the bulletin board material ready from last year, they won't take their foot off the gas. I like the Warriors in 5 or 6, if it goes 7, I think Cleveland takes it.

:lmao:  that Celtics team was garbage compared to these two. Gtfo

Cuz Klay Thompson - making Mozgov rubles @ $16mil - was the highest-paid player, leaving just enough room (after clearing Bogut/Barbosa/Barnes out) for a Durant to throw 3-4mil back from max and sign for a first yr @ $26 to get his title, like Jerry West advised

What has that to do with anything?! Celts are a team of castoffs & projects plus the only Negro who would sign FA with racist Boston that Stevens has taught how to best the modern game. I'd like to see him have a chance with real talent.

no offense to Brad Stevens, but if Mike Brown can win this thing for the Warriors, I could coach this team to a championship.

absolutely, just sayin that i'd like to see the 'best team ever', in terms of talent & compatibility, play like it, for the purity of the experience especially in LeBron's big fat outraged face

I think you're underestimating how badly he wanted to get away from Russel Westbrook.
Maybe, but I don't think he would have wanted to get away from him all that badly if they'd gone to the Finals again.  He seemed genuinely surprised that Westbrook was so bitter about the whole thing, which I don't think would be the case if their relationship had been all that strained.

The whole thing just kinda sucks. I kinda knew it would, and I don't begrudge anyone for their decisions, but it was still a bummer to see it in action last night. My twitter feed was filled with posts like this:

Larry Beyince‏ @DragonflyJonez 13h13 hours ago

"*sighs loud as ####* You not even supposed to be here bruh this #### ain't got nothing to do with you!"- me whenever KD does something
I guess the silver lining will be when the Warriors and their fans think they've killed the 3-1 lead jokes after this is over but thanks to KD they'll live forever.

Stevens is a great coach, but this is a bit much. There are four lottery picks in the Celtics' rotation, including the second-most coveted free agent of the summer of 2016.  If that free agent had gone with his reported second choice the Celtics would have gotten swept in the conference semis if they even make it that far no matter how brilliant Stevens may be.

yeah, blake griffin sounds like a great pickup.
