Yep, all of the pressure is on Golden St. They have to win this series.  They have been the best team each of the last three seasons and they added the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league. They are so good that they don't even need their head coach. 

Conversely, this is the least amount of pressure James has ever had in the finals (except for '07 when no one really thought LeBron and the scrubs would beat the Spurs).  After last year, his legacy is basically impervious to bullets; all he can do at this point is enhance it.

You can't compare ages with these 2, Jordan went to college, LeBron didn't. They both took their lumps. They both are great.

I think Jordan deserves to be ranked as the best ever, based on resume/accomplishments with proper context applied (to date). That said, IMO the answer to this question is Lebron. Jordan was a top 5 all time talent and a fierce competitor, but Lebron is a top 5 all time talent who is also a physical freak who can guard almost any player at any position but cannot be guarded effectively by almost any player at any position... plus if you take this question literally you are getting Jordan in his prime in the modern game when he didn't grow up with it (i.e., didn't grow up with emphasis on three point shooting).

Lebron is the choice over all other players in league history at this point for the same reasons.

Good points.  A lot of stuff Jordan was good at aren't emphasized in development anymore.  Jordan could post up and shoot from either block with either hand.  In the triangle offense that's a huge asset, but in today's game how many guards need to know proper low post footwork, much less use it?

And before it gets said, I'm not trolling this thread.  In my humble opinion you could not have witnessed Jordans career and be convinced that LeBron James wouldn't have had his soul crushed by him, just like every other player he played against during that era. 

 And I am far from a Jordan fan.  There is no doubt in my mind one on one with Jordan versus LeBron he would cross LeBron up or shoot over him or punch him in the face or do whatever it took to win, that's the type of person and player Jordan was. 

 LeBron James is a magnificent player but he's more Magic Johnson and he will never ever be better than Michael Jordan. It's not even possible.

Have to say, the how "how old are you" thing is coming off as fairly creepy. And this is coming from someone that's likely at least as old as you are. Yes, I was there watching the Ehlo game.

While I think it is dumb to compare players in different era's, you should compare years in the league. So compare Jordan's 5th year in the league to James 5th year in the league. Jordan would have been 25 James would have James would have been 23.

Lebron finished 6th in MVP at the same age Jordan was still in college.  I disagree that you need to adjust age comparisons to account for that.

 
This thread always deteriorates as the playoffs progress.  It's a disaster right now, and clowns brought their shovels to dig even lower.

 
Was watching some MJ playoff highlights. Anyone who says LeBron couldn't hang with those defenders are hilarious. LeBron would dominate that era, the athleticism back then was a joke.

Because you are putting a guy that grew up after that era in that era. Athletes are trained different now then they were 30 years ago, people in general are just bigger. Lebron's high school games were on ESPN, that didn't happen back in Jordan's day. 

We have no idea how different LeBron would be if he was born in the 60's and played in college in the 80's and we have no idea how different Jordan would be if he was born in the 90's and never played in college. 

What we do know is that these are 2 of the best players to ever play the game and I like to believe that the best of the best would adjust to any era.

It's funny to me people think MJ would suffer in this era when Russell Westbrook is going to win the MVP. 

 
I hate LeBron but even so it's blatantly obvious that he's one of the greatest to play the game if not the greatest (I'm 44).

The hatred is borne from respect. Has to be to run so deep.

 
I don't get the Lebron hate. At all. I grew up watching Jordan. If you want to make a case for Lebron as better it's legitimate at this point.  If you think Jordan was better that's fine but dismissing Lebron is ridiculous. 

 
So subjective to compare players from different eras because the game and the competition are not the same.  The rules back in the day allowed for defenders to harass offensive players far more and players were more physical.  There were far more defensive oriented teams back in Jordan's era and there were more rim protectors in the league.  The power forward and center positions in the league currently is filled with jump shooters that draw their defenders out of the key--so that opens things up for modern day players more than it did back in the day.  Players were also allowed to foul harder back in the day without the the threat of being called for a flagrant or getting ejected--so the game not only required physical toughness--but also mental toughness.  

For me personally--I think both Jordan and Lebron are physical freaks. I think Lebron probably has more basketball "tools" than Jordan-- (probably quicker, better court vision, his ball handling skills are more like a point guard..etc)--but Jordan was probably the most mentally tough player that I have seen.   As a whole--I'd put Jordan as my number 1 because even if Lebron is arguably slightly better physically and in regards to basketball tools--I think Jordan is moderately better when it comes to mental toughness.  When a player got under Jordan's skin--Jordan generally got better and stepped on their throats.  When Lebron gets rattled--he tenses up.  With that being said--this is all subjective and this is just my opinion. I don't really care to argue back and forth as there are valid points on both opinions and much of it is personal taste.  

 
Back in the day, defensive rules didn't require you to have shooters to open things up.  LBJ is too big, too fast, too much range for those enforcers back then.

 
The Jordan/LBJ debate will probably never be settled and that's fine. But I will say that I also don't understand why you can't compare players at the same ages. Jordan was being developed as a player at UNC. Some would even argue that going to college is better for a young player's development than going straight to the NBA.

 
Always think it's strange when people compare Jordan and James.  They are so different.  Different position, different styles.  Do different things well.  They are both great champions.  Let's leave it at that.

 
The whole playoffs have been awful, so there has to be something to talk about, right? 

As for the finals, no one has more pressure than Kevin Durant.  He basically has to not only win the finals, but has to play extremely well and be a major reason why they win.
