***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (1 Viewer)

Great pitching from Cleveland. If ya tolf me that the Jays would allow 12 runs in 5 games before it started, I would have guaranteed that it was Toronto winning.

Yeah we're gonna see Kershaw game 5 IMHO.  Then you can use him again in relief in game 7.

If you wait until game 6 he's not gonna be able to pitch at all the next day.

And who's going to pitch in the world series?
Well World Series starts Tuesday.  If Kershaw starts tomorrow he'd be on 4 days rest from his last start if Dodgers were to advance.  I think they are just trying to win tomorrow right now though, World Series is months away in Dodgers time right now.

If he starts tomorrow and doesn't come in for relief in game 7, sure. But the idea of playing him game 5 to bring him in relief game 7 (ala bumgardner) is stupid. Then he's not really available for much of the WS. That was a sellout play which didn't matter because baseball was over after that game.

Sunday (game7) would be his bullpen day anyway, he could throw 30-40 pitches that day and still pitch on Tuesday.  You have to win this series to move on, there is tomorrow after game 5 for at least one team.  If I;m the Dodgers I want Kershaw tomorrow, take my chances with whomever in game 6, and then have Hill, Kershaw, and Jansen lined up for a possible game 7.

I think I agree that I'd use Kershaw tomorrow. Especially since th Cubs bats have momentum and the lefty Lester is pitching against a team that hasn't handled lefties well.

Kershaw would be just as available for the WS as he was for the NLCS since he did this exact thing during the NLDS.

I am really surprised to read suggestions about Kershaw pitching tomorrow. If Dodgers had won tonight that would make perfect sense: you want Kershaw to deliver the knockout punch, and not have to return to Chicago. But since they must win at least once in Chicago, I think it makes for better strategy to pitch him in Game Six, where if he wins, the momentum would subdue the home-field advantage of Game Seven.

Also, the psychological aspect of Kershaw losing tomorrow (or even a ND), and then having to trudge back to Chicago for two games without him being available, would be a huge hurdle to overcome.

What about using Kershaw as your bridge reliever to Jansen in each of the last three games?  Dave Roberts thinks outside the box, I think he should consider it.

I think part of the suggestion of bringing Kershaw back tomorrow is it also opens the possibility of him pitching an inning or two in a Game 7, where a Game 6 start would be it for him.

Jansen didn't pitch tonight and with the travel day after Game 5, he's probably pitching two innings tomorrow night.  But I suppose that can be an argument both for and against starting Kershaw.

Cubs winning is good for baseball.
I don't really care a damn who wins the NLCS, but I'd say this thing going 7 is good for the Indians. The Indians making it this far without hitting very well and without Salazar/Carrasco is still a mystery to me (though a certain 8 foot tall bearded man factors in heavily), but either way, they'll face the best team they'll face in the Postseason in the World Series. The odds aren't in their favor (again). Five days of rest will help (and I'd say was damn near mandatory). The NLCS winner having to log a ton of stressful innings en route would be nice.

Hoping to see NLCS wrap up somewhere around 3AM Monday morning, with Kershaw and Lester both throwing 5 innings in relief.

He threw a bullpen session yesterday. No way he pitches today. I said a couple days ago that the one bright spot of the Cubs dropping Game 3 is it assured them they'd be facing Maeda in Game 5 and making Kershaw pitch at Wrigley. Hope it works out!

Apparently, Ryan Merritt and his fiancée are registered at Target for their upcoming wedding. Indians fans have been buying stuff for their wedding in appreciation for what he did yesterday. :D  I love my fellow Tribe fans!

A little belated but Congrats to Cleveland and their fans.  Clearly, the better team won.

I'm hoping you play the Cubs in the WS so that at least one team will get the monkey off their back.
