Baez actually had a better hard contact rate in 2015 than he did in 2016, but a lot of the balls he was hitting was right at guys.  More importantly he was missing a lot, his O-Swing % was up 14% this year meaning he is identifying balls outside the strike zone better than he was a year ago.  It's just a matter of time, I think he's superior to Addison Russell but he can find a home anywhere in the infield.  I think 3B would be ideal, he'd be a gold glover there and I think he could become the standard at the hot corner.  Not gonna walk a lot, ever, but as long as his pitch selection continues to improve he has a chance to be special.

I don't see Baez playing 3B every day as long as Bryant is in the lineup. Bryant has proven he's fine there and it doesn't make sense to play him in the outfield, where the Cubs are going to have a logjam even if they don't bring Fowler back. He probably sticks at 2B. He's proven he has great value there. He's a better natural fielder than Russell, but I doubt they flip them with it working so well.

i would have liked to see Kershaw in G5, but I don't know how much more he can be pushed at this point.  At some point someone other than Kershaw/Hill will need to step up if they're going to ship it.

In other news, every single should have been an automatic triple last night.  REally could have taken advantage of Lester a little more than just dancing around like an idiot off first.

I hate when i hear indecision about fowler coming back. They lucked into him this year and thank god. He is a perfect fit. Will be very upset if he doesnt stay a cub. Would rather have him than soler, almora, schwarbs, et al.

This logic makes zero sense. If a Kershaw start equals a guaranteed win then they only have to win one game more at Wrigley.  If he's not (spoiler alert- he's not) than the Dodgers might well have needed to win twice at Wrigley without Kershaw if he'd pitched and lost last night.  Can't have it both ways. However you slice it they needed two wins in three games to advance and Kershaw can only start once, it doesn't matter which game he starts.

I mostly agree, but there are a couple factors I think are in favor of Kershaw going in G5.

1. Kenta Maeda is used to pitching on 5+ days rest.  That's the norm in Japan and he was more successful this season on extra rest (the Dodgers tried to keep him on this schedule for most of the year).  If you throw Maeda in game 6, he's on extra rest and may be more effective

2. If Kershaw goes last night, they have him available in relief for G7.

Either way, gotta have the bullpen arms not named Jansen step up, or it's all moot.  Can't ride your horses forever, or some such phrase of that nature.

I'd love to have Fowler back. I don't think Almora saw enough action in 2016 to feel confident he's ready for a full season. Defensively, sure, but he's not the offensive player Fowler is, and finding an everyday leadoff hitter is not an easy task. And you can't very well start Almora AND Heyward consistently in the same outfield. Sacrifices too much offense. Next year's logjam will be interesting, and this is another reason I've always hated the Heyward signing. A lot of people are speculating that Soler will be gone, but they said that last year, too. Soler, Schwarber, Heyward, Zobrist. And if Eloy Jimenez comes up, watch out. It's gonna be nuts out there.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but Dodgers tied their own hands because the Cubs lost game 3 and won game 4 instead of vice versa. If the Cubs had won game 3, the Dodgers would have had to respect the possibility that last night they'd be playing down 3-1 in the series, and there's no way anyone but Kershaw starts that game. But the Cubs lost game 3, so the Dodgers were confident and let him throw a bullpen session on Wednesday and then what do you know—momentum completely shifted later that night. Still not completely sure Kershaw pitches last night after what happened Wednesday night, but he's probably at least available. Didn't turn out that way.

True, and the first point is a good one I hadn't considered.  Of course the flip side is that you would also expect Kershaw to pitch better on full rest. If he'd struggled on short rest last night (a real possibility given his workload so far this postseason and the fact that he had relatively little buildup in August and September), the Dodgers could be in a worst case scenario, down 3-2 and heavy underdogs in the two remaining games.  At least now they're favored to take it to 7.

Seemed like it got into their heads as much if not more than Lester's.  Jon wasn't bothered by it.  You could tell the Dodgers weren't too sure of themselves coming off that bag that far, and all of them were quick to head back when he went to the plate for fear of Ross throwing in behind them.  I tend to agree though that if you're going to take that big of a lead you might as well go.  Dancing around like a fool doesn't do much.

I keep waiting for Jon's inability to throw to the bases to blow up in his face, but it hasn't happened yet.

The coverage is really horrible all the way around.  Joe Buck isn't bad in small doses, but when I'm watching every pitch of every game he's insufferable.

Smoltz is good, but that guy must have said 7 billion times that the Dodgers should steal off Lester.  We get it dude.  You don't have to say it every 12 seconds in case a new viewer tuned in.

Over the course of a 7 game series and 4 and a half hours per game how many original ideas is the guy supposed to have? 

 
The cubs would honestly have a better chance at winning the series on the road these last two games. The tension in the air from the fans will be so palpable that it will spread through the cubs like a virus.

Cubs are playing way looser on the road than at home. If I am cubs management I just don't let any fans into the stadium for games 6 and 7.

The Heyward signing was always senseless. That money (with hindsight) could have been spent on Dex + Andrew miller. I think Dex plus bullpen help isn't even hindsight. That was at the time. Theo's only real weakness his entire career has been bad high profile free agent signings. If you read that ESPN piece on him he tries to deflect some of the later Boston stuff. He's an easy HOFer and maybe the best exec ever, but he's not infallible.

This is poor analysis. The cubs were looser because they got some big hits. They ran into kershaw in game 2 and looked like crap against hill in game 3, which maybe you didnt notice was on the road. They looked bad in game 4 until zobrist laid down a bunt and some hits happened. Lot easier to be loose when you are ahead 8-2 than losing 1-0.

I saw a tweet that said the first pitch throwers have already been lined up and supposedly Tribe fans will love them. I'm suspecting a lot of 90s-era players. I would love it if John Adams got one of those slots.
