Feels good for them after their favorite basketball team choked away a 3-1 lead last summerApparently everyone in the world is a Cubs fan, this is new to me.
Drinking tonight are you?Feels good for them after their favorite basketball team choked away a 3-1 lead last summerApparently everyone in the world is a Cubs fan, this is new to me.
Tom Hanks was there too?
For Cubs fans, you can cry all you want. Props to yinz. If you'd have been playing anyone other than beloved Indians, I would have been rooting for you. There is crying in baseball
Hadn't thought about it that wayWhile every fanbase has its bottom feeders (can someone say Ligue), the idea that the same people that threatened the life of Steve Bartman, and threw his life into upheaval, are reveling in this celebration actually made my stomach turn last night.
amateur.
It was a little hard to come to work this morning. I was disheartened after the first hitter homer, and kinda kept sliding down hill. Once Rajai homered in the 8th, I thought we had a chance. As soon as Martinez grounded out I turned the TV off as I don't want to see anyone celebrating in my team's yard. Tom Hamilton had a great call on WTAM as he seemed happy for the Cubs, even if it was at the expense of the Tribe. What a game... What a series... I managed to drag myself into work today after chugging from a bottle of bourbon after Davis hit that homerun... Screaming out my front door "IT AIN'T OVER MOTHER####ERS!!!".... I'm pretty sure had I gotten pulled over this morning I wouldn't have passed a breathalyzer... Wish the Indians had won... But what a game! Props to the Cubs, they were just better. Glad they got to win after 1000 years or whatever and it wasn't the stupid Dodgers celebrating in Cleveland last night..
texted the boss when the tarp came out that I was :Xaaaaand called out sick

To take baseball's best team to extra innings in game 7 without Michael Brantley, Cookie and Danny Salazar is quite the impressive feat and why Tito deserves all the props for getting them this far. I'm disappointed, not sad. Given how we did without those three, I'm optimistic that we'll be back real soon.
Yes, but I like the thought of all the 85 year olds finally getting one. Awesome. While every fanbase has its bottom feeders (can someone say Ligue), the idea that the same people that threatened the life of Steve Bartman, and threw his life into upheaval, are reveling in this celebration actually made my stomach turn last night.
Agreed. Texts of congratulations to my aunts, both in their 70s was maybe the highlight of my night.Yes, but I like the thought of all the 85 year olds finally getting one. Awesome.
You picked a good one.that was the first baseball game I've watched (on TV) in over a decade.
Let's play two World Series.Shame the Series had to end. Wouldn't have minded a best-of-nine this time around.
No because Crisp has the arm of a toddler. Absolutely the right call defensively.I know part of the conciliatory pat on the back narrative for the Indians is to compliment Francona, and he certainly did an impressive job overall considering the Indians' injuries. But did anyone else thing the move to pull Crisp for Martinez was a little weird? The chances of a fly ball to right field in the 9th with one out that is juuuust deep enough that the Heyward could tag from third and score on Crisp, but not deep enough to score on Martinez, have to be astronomical. And Martinez is one of the worst-hitting position players in the game.
You're trying to protect a tie game and thus take the game to extra innings if you don't score in the bottom of the 9th, making it fairly likely his spot would come up again, and you'd have an automatic out in extras instead of Crisp, who is no Babe Ruth but at least he's Coco Crisp. As it turns out he came up in the biggest spot imaginable, but even if he'd come up at some random point in extra innings it seems like the extra offense is better to have than the infinitesimal chance that his arm makes the difference on a throw to home. In addition you're also sacrificing your final bench option in a game that could at that point have gone on several more innings- as it turns out it didn't but that's a factor in the decision too.
Ditto. I'm trying to play around with where this series ranks for me in terms of non-Yankee ones.I don't think I've ever jumped off the couch watching a game I didn't have a rooting interest in, and it happened like three times last night. Great stuff.
Well yeah, obviously it was the right call defensively. if you limit your perspective to that. The question is whether the defensive benefit is worth the offensive dropoff considering the likelihood that his spot would come up if the Indians prevented Heyward from scoring there, plus the loss of your last bench player if the game drags in for many innings after that.No because Crisp has the arm of a toddler. If the 10th turns out to be a 5 run inning, it doesn't really matter.Well yeah, obviously it was the right call defensively. if you limit your perspective to that. The probability a ball would be hit in a precise spot where the arm strength difference would come into play is so small it wasn't the right move. There is no way that trade off in offensive production is worth it even if he has one of the worst arms in the league.Well yeah, obviously it was the right call defensively. if you limit your perspective to that. To clarify- I'[m not saying it was the wrong call. It struck me as kinda odd while I was watching, but Francona knows his player's tools better than I do. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same thought.
Also its interesting that nobody's talking about it this morning as far as I've seen. Even if it was the right call, a decision that leads to an atrocious hitter at the plate with the World Series on the line seems like something people would talk about.
I almost posted at the time that it was ridiculous, but that is more because I am a Phillies' fan and find Martinez annoying and terrible.Well yeah, obviously it was the right call defensively. if you limit your perspective to that. You've never seen Crisp throw lately, have you?The probability a ball would be hit in a precise spot where the arm strength difference would come into play is so small it wasn't the right move. The Indians returned to the clubhouse during the rain delay and it had been prepped for a champagne celebration, w/ plastic sheets hanging.
Yeah, but you're still talking about a single batter hitting the ball, in the air, to a fairly small sliver of the field. You've never seen Crisp throw lately, have you?
