2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Odd thing is that Brett McMurphy says  Gundy Vols meeting will take place in Dallas. Plane is flying to Stillwater to take him to Dallas to talk?

DON'T TAKE THE IN-FLIGHT BEVERAGE SERVICE!

Seems like very few hot coaching commodities this year.
This is what especially confused me with the Todd Graham firing.  The dude had 2 10 win seasons.  After a terrible start, he finished strong and beat 3 ranked teams as well as their rival.  They are going to a bowl.  I understand if they don't think he's their long term solution, but ASU could have given him another year to get 10 wins or fire him when they are competing with far fewer wealthy programs next season.

@Tom Servo any insight on Joe Moorhead?  Day 3 of our coaching search and his name seems to be gaining the most steam.  I don't know much about him, but what I've read he seems pretty sharp.

Very long discussion today on sports radio about why anyone would want to jump in that dumpster fire at Tennessee.   The host went on to say that the glory days for Tennessee are passed, and trying to win in the toughest conference (SEC) is like running your head into a break wall.  So many better opportunities for football coaches to choose from.   Went on to say uprooting your family is a big PITA for something that is likely going to be 3 years or less and have to start all over again.

Just my opinion but I agree with what you say about him, just question the fit as far as Miss St and the SEC. I don't think he has any connections down there so unless he has a specific staff in mind, that seems like an uphill battle.

Is it, really?

Good FSU reporters are saying Jimbo has overplayed his hand and that basically the big money boosters are telling him to pound sand. They aren't looking to give him much more money. Likely enough to top Mullen (as it should be) but nowhere near what TAMU will pay.

It's weird to understand how a guy could have overplayed his hand coming off a 5-6 season with a top-5 roster. :loco:  Gllll getting your brains beat in by Saban every year with a mediocre squad guy.

They are in the East. Besides Georgia, the East is terrible.

He's definitely had the benefit of Saquon Barkley as his RB the last two years, which can make any OC look good. The losses in the Rose Bowl and at OSU were in part IMO to the offense going into a shell. Whether that's on him or Franklin is open to question. There's no doubt PSU's been scoring a lot more than they used to. But I'm with @RUSF18 in that there doesn't seem to be any connection (he QB'd and coached at Fordham). But, Franklin is an eastern PA guy yet worked at WA State, Idaho State and K State before coaching at Vandy, so anything is possible.

@ClownCausedChaos2, @CentralPA, @joffer - you have anything to add?

Dude is an amazing troll. How can he be such a ######## to the guy who helped him resurrect his career?
It's hilarious but he's going to kill his own career.  No major program wants to take advantage of that d-bag and his baggage.  Especially when it's clear as day he's still an immature, petty punk.

Generally I would agree with you, however...  how do I put this... some people in the most prominent college football region are big fans of winning and internet trolling, regardless of repercussions.  SAD!!

Schefter  adds credence to Herm report

@AdamSchefter: ESPN analyst Herm Edwards will be interviewing for the Arizona State head coaching job this weekend, he confirmed.

I'm not sure that I'm sold on the guy.  But like Servo mentioned, watching the team go into a shell at the most important times in the season has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Moorehead has definitely brought life back to the offense at Penn State and there's no doubt he's a great offensive mind.  I think he deserves a shot as a HC.

If I had to point out a negative, I'd say that he seems awfully one dimensional.  He seems to run the red option offense well, but almost to fault.  Several times time season, I think PSU could have benefitted from lining the QB up under center with a FB and coming right at the line with Barkley having a full head of steam.  PSU's victory formation was out of a pistol formation, for God's sake.  Another time, PSU had to run the ball out of their own end zone from a pistol formation.

Penn State would easily be undefeated if they could have run an I-formation offense a handful of times this year.  A half a dozen plays in the playbook from under center would have them in the playoffs.

Even if they are 5th, Fresno could lose to Boise this week costing Bama a top-25 win.

As good as we know bama likely is, it is surprising the committee looks at that resume and has them 5th. But, they did play auburn better than #6 Georgia did and we know they are better than miami. So it makes some sense.

If Georgia wins they obviously jump them. I think there is a good chance OSU will too.

I think Miami ahead of Ohio St means OSU is fuuuuuuudged.  I don’t see a way in or them unless OU loses and even then I’m not sure.

Agreed.  I think their only shot is an Ohio State, TCU, Clemson sweep putting Clemson, SEC Champ, Alabama and Ohio State in the playoff.  I think Clemson losing a close game to Miami keeps them ahead of Ohio State.

RIP Sun Devils

In essence, whomever the ACC and SEC champs are get in, Oklahoma & Wisconsin are in if they win.

IMO, if Bucky loses, they’re all the way out and B1G is shutout. Then it becomes whether Bama, the ACC or SEC loser backs in.

Yep thinking about this some more even if TCU beats Oklahoma for Ohio State, how can you justify putting Ohio State in over Oklahoma?  Both with 2 losses.  Ohio St with a 30 point beatdown by Iowa and there's that beatdown Oklahoma gave Ohio State on their home field.

Miami has zero shot with a loss.  The SEC championship game loser is out too.  But I could see Oklahoma still getting in with a close loss.

Committee values big wins the most. Would a victory over #4 vault OSU over Bama? I think it's possible.

Miami has nothing to do with it. ACC champ is in.

Sources: Mike Gundy has decided to remain at Oklahoma State. He met w/Tennessee officials Tuesday in Dallas. Gundy reportedly had a 6-year, $42 million deal from Tennessee, but will remain at his alma mater

Rece Davis was arguing clemson with a close loss. 9 wins over top 40 - more than double the next team. I still don’t see it.

Moorhead to Miss St seems to be done.
I’m excited.  I did get excited about Pruitt, but according to the insiders at Miss State they said after the interview the AD said he wants the coach with the highest football IQ.

I like being able to think outside the box a bit, not going with the next hottest SEC coordinator.  Would have probably turned into a muschamp of mcilwain situation for us.  We have what’s possibly our most talented roster ever.  We can’t afford to mess it up.  Sounds like he’s been successful as a HC and pretty successful as the OC at a major program.

Least we’re not flailing around like some other Sec w programs right now.

It’s really important for us to keep Todd Grantham...he did wonders for our D.

I looked at some OU social media stuff and fans are mad they aren't 1 or 2.  Who the #### cares?  Gotta beat TCU to get into the playoff and being the 4th seed in the playoff is as good as being #1 IMO.

Would love for Bucky Badger to beat the Legion of Cheaters this weekend, and how cool is it that Bama is not in the SECCG?  I think it's great, God bless CFB.

So whoever Tennessee hires, they know that they were in line behind:

Gruden

Schiano

Cutcliffe

Gundy

Chad Morris (refused interview)

Zak Morris (talks fell apart when his past with Screech raised red flags)

Marty Smith (trying to keep pace with ASU and he's more likeable than Gary Danielsen)

Not sure I have that list right

I didn’t hear Morris turned down an interview. It was always said that aTm was his dream job, so hope he gets a shot there.

Wow

@DanWolken: Source: Florida State officials have  started doing background work on Oregon coach Willie Taggart in preparation for the possibility Jimbo Fisher takes the Texas A&M job.
