2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

CFP just keeps showing how wrong it is.

Can we get at leat a 16 team playoff please?  The current system is so badly and blatantly flawed.

Less than they're going to play in the nfl.  I think the students will be ok.
It increases the chances of injury for all of them, increases the amount of time they owe to the school, etc. It's asking a lot of them without giving them any compensation. Plus, there is mounting evidence that these games are causing serious longterm health issues.

:)

The lower divisions of college football have no problem doing this to their students.
I don't know much about it, but many of those schools only play 7,8 or 9 regular season games. Playoffs start mid November. Also, the athletes are smaller, slower, etc. It's not as wearing on the body.

The lack of a college football playoff has never been about any of the things you've mentioned. It's always been because of the bowl game system.

Sure, but it doesn't mean those things aren't legitimate reasons we don't need college athletes player 16 games a season.

Like anything that requires change to how things have been done for decades, it will take time, but eventually they'll drop that nonsense and adopt an expanded playoff system.   Its so much more exciting for the average fan.  Most people care little about most of those bowl games.

I am all for shortening the regular season, readjusting the conferences and putting in a huge playoff.

The game plan was to run the ball.  ND is a heavy running team.  When the oline stinks up the joint, they're going to struggle.  They don't have the qb play or the wide receivers to just start slinging the ball.
Some credit goes to def coach Manny Diaz, who could get some head coaching offers.

Dlll schools have played 10 games already. How about the big boys? And they (Dl guys) are also bigger, stronger, and faster - just like their opponents.

So which is it?  I guess they shouldn’t go to the pros because those guys play a lot more games and are even bigger, stronger, and faster.

This is about control, not about having a legit playoff.

The average Div 2 and 3 player is a lot smaller and slower, not nearly the same wear/tear on the body. Teams like Bama, Clemson, Michigan last year were borderline NFL squads.
College football is just the minor league of the NFL.   Don't see the big deal these guys playing 16 games.   Most of these guys aspire to play in the NFL.  If they get their wish, they'll be playing even more than 16 if you include preseason and playoffs.  If your gripe is they don't get paid, I have no problem seeing them get paid to some degree.

Some of you Wisconsin honks can feel free to jump in here and defend your school at any time...or maybe you just do suck and I should shut up.

Our record and our play speaks for itself.

Suck it pollsters.  You just keep on getting proven wrong week after week.

It is but it isn't. As much as it works as the minor league system for the NFL, it isn't. It's still college students playing football for a scholarship. Just like the NFL players would want more money if the season went to 18 games, the college players should get more compensation as the season gets longer. They are people, just because it would be fun for us to see them play more games, it doesn't mean it should be.

I'm hoping playing a college sport is fun for them as well.  I really doubt it would be some big burden on them if a dozen more teams had to play a few extra games.

Bigger, stronger, faster=  more force which is more likely to cause injuries, wear on joints, etc. Pro football will pay them a lot of money to irreparably damage their bodies.
