2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Sucks having to break in a true freshman QB two years in a row.  Herbert was the only guy Oregon could not afford to get hurt.  The injuries and penalties have almost gotten comical.  It has gotten to the point that after any big play you look back for the flag and it is usually there to negate it.
Yeah....129 out of 129.  That's awful.

Hopefully that's that for Washington. I couldn't stand to watch them get smoked in the playoff again. I think the Pac is going to get left out. SEC might get both Bama and UGA.

Teams with a shot, IMO:

SEC:  Alabama & Georgia

PAC-12:  USC (Possibly Wash or Wash State if they run the table)

Big Ten:  Ohio St, Penn St, or Wisconsin (I guess Michigan or Mich St if they run the table)

ACC:  Clemson & Miami (Perhaps NC State if they run the table)

Big 12:  TCU & Oklahoma (Perhaps Oklahoma State if they run the table)

You left out the UCF/USF winner

UCF has smoked every opponent. Their closest game was a 27-point win. Of course they haven't really played anybody.

They also had 3 games cancelled, so their best case is a 9-0 regular season.
According to this they'll play 11 regular season games. But, yes, the rest is accurate.

Same could be said for USF.  You could have a ranked 10-0 team beat a ranked 10-0 team on the day after Thanksgiving and have zero shot.

Yeah, you're right. I just subtracted 3 from the normal 12 games without really counting. So they had 14 games originally scheduled?
I think the league shuffled the schedule so they played more /different conference games. Looks like UCF plays 9 out of 11 games in conference.

Why not Notre Dame if they win out?  1 point loss to a very good UGA team way back in Sept won't hurt them.

Sounds like Gus and Jacobs are out at AU, barring a miracle run.

I’m stunned Tim’s prediction that Gus would overtake Saban didnt work out.

With all the potential firings this year, AU needs to be careful...wouldn’t be surprised if the AD is axed and Gus gets another year.

Well Jacobs is in more trouble over the softball program than any of the other items - basketball, baseball or football issues - the football woes are final nails in the coffin and a reminder of those problems. AU and careful aren't synonymous - I'm afraid it will be more of the same down here on the Plains. With a new President it may be the time to ax them both and make the new AD hire who then brings in his guy at football coach - the question becomes what are the old guard program boosters going to do and/or demand. I think the time has come to move on from these guys and rely upon a new way of fundraising from the masses of alumni vs the bigwigs who demand a voice at the table.

I had no idea they changed it.  Didn't they go through some exhaustive mascot change process?  Why didn't the shark get accepted then?  Why go through the voting or whatever and just throw away the selection?  Ole Miss is dumb.
Sorry, just now seeing this so apologies if this has been covered already or is widely known.

Here's what I heard from an Ole Miss grad a couple of years ago.  I guess there was a movement on campus to move away from the "Rebels" mascot because it was not politically correct given current times and even seen as racist with it's ties to the Rebel Flag and the civil war.  So the university administration put the new mascot to a vote and of course most of the college students didn't want to change mascots so in a mockery of administration and the voting process the students voted the "Land Shark" as the new mascot.  It was a joke.  The administration realized it was a mockery of the process and threw away the results.  The Ole Miss defense still thought it was funny and adopted the Land Shark as the unofficial mascot of the defense and started the shark fin above the head thing after big plays.  That was a couple of years ago, maybe 5, who knows.  Not sure if it's true, but it's what I heard.

No idea what is going on with the Ole Miss mascot today.

Close...the mockery was Admiral Ackbar winning the voting. Landsharks did get votes but Black Bears was chosen.

The Landshark was created by the players after a defensive player did the hand signal after a big play...a few years before the vote.

I like my version better.  Going to just stick with it.

Sticking with the name "Ole Miss" and attempting to be politically correct is high comedy.

Because of course.

I dont understand how we got to the point where Tennessee was getting 41 points on the road vs anyone.

Something is broken.  The lack of talent in the high schools cant be that low. Right?

Is it 41? Last I saw was 36. That's embarrassing.

I think it’s improving especially out of Nashville...but Ive been saying it for a few years, UT won’t ever be at Florida or UGAs level...or their neighbor to the south...I don’t think, unless they sign a superstar coach.

I have a sense the superstar coaches are starting to dwindle faster than even the talent.

I think Texas just got away with one there. Ran a play before the 90 yard gain could be removed. Would be really surprised if he didn't step out of bounds.
