2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

1. Neither.  College football is dumb.

2.  Alabama.  What's another national title for them at this point?   The thought of UGA winning one is awful.  I like the fact that Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Clemson, & Tech all have a national title more recently than them.
It always amazed me how much UGA underachieved over the years.  It always seemed like they were the sleeping giants.

Hines Ward

Olandis Gary

Terrell Davis

Champ Bailey

Richard Seymour

Matt Stafford

Knowshon Moreno

Bill Goldberg

That was exactly where my head went as well. I found it funny that they Alabama’d Alabama.

1973 lmao ok Alabama.
For the record, I think the 16 national championships are a dumb thing to claim.  It tarnishes an already impressive claim.  You can make arguments for the 25, 26, 30, and 34 teams but those are the pre-AP days (started in 1936).  1941 is a joke no matter how you look at it, and there is no reasonable defense for it.

The rest (including 1973, the year of awesome births) are legit.  They were either AP or Coaches poll selections.  You don't have to like them, you don't have to agree with them, but those are the ones almost all mainstream fans accept.  So that leaves us with 11.  I'll take it the reduction just to get rid of the "Weekly Reader" jokes.

If UCF wants to claim a championship, that's fine with me.  If they get recognized by the Coaches or AP (I'm not sure if these polls are still obligated to vote for the winner of the game) that would lend some legitimacy.  I think a lot of people would agree if they were in a Power 5 conference, the grind would likely have prevented an undefeated season, but we'll never know.  They did beat the team that beat both of the finalists.

I'm heavily in favor of an 8 team playoff where all conference champs get in, 1 group of 5 gets an auto bid, and then 2 at large bids (which could conceivably be more group of 5 teams if they are deserving).

They're gone nationally. Think a few stores still sell them.
Yeah the spicy biscuit was my go to breakfast sandwich.  They asked me if I wanted Texas Pete on it, and it's actually not bad.  Not as good mind you, and much messier, but better than a plain chicken biscuit.

I think it’s different when they are in the same state and covered by the same board of regents, but maybe not.

I don’t think the Big 12 is going anywhere until 2025
If it weren't for Texas I still would love for Nebraska to be in the Big 12.  The death of the NU-OU rivalry was a sad day and we have not had a true rival since.  Colorado wanted a rivalry, the Big Ten is trying to force Iowa as a rivalry - but nothing quite matches up to the old OU-NU games of the 70s-80s-90s.

From a national perspective, OU/NU was THE rivalry - much bigger than Michigan/OSU - in the 70s and 80s. Seems like there were always at least Orange Bowl implications (which was a big deal back then) and often Top 5 overall fallout from the result.

And, my God, the RBs in those games! Nebraska always seemed to have at least one on the roster with a really cool name. My all-time favorite NU RB name was I.M. Hipp.

Who else? My memory is slipping in my old age.....

Jarvis Redwine was another cool name.

Before I ever saw him play, the name "Mike Rozier" had me imagining a bulldozer. I expect the guys trying to tackle him might agree.

What? That cross division game with Penn State doesn’t evoke memories of those great games of the 80s?  :P

It just doesn't make sense.  They have the spicy filets for the lunch sandwich.  They have the biscuit.  Make me a damn spicy biscuit.

This is what I said!

I actually asked once and she said it was a smaller filet for breakfast. I just told her to charge me a dollar more.

She wouldn't.

Some CFA places are good at making custom orders, but not the one by my work.  Sad

I feel like I need to try and go Jack Nicholson on them.  Order a spicy chicken sandwhich and a butter biscuit, tell them to hold the bun on the sandwich.  That way they don't break any rules and I get what I want....seriously, this isn't hard!!

On Friday, a friend of mine ordered a sausage and cheese biscuit, but asked them to hold the biscuit and give him a gluten free bun.  She did it, with no extra charge.  I love CFA.

@need2know is a Bama fan.

Passive aggressiveness is usually saved for crazy chicks, but this guy has corned the market for dude passive aggressiveness.  Seems like he might be Goggins, FTW.  TIA.

glllllllllllllllllll
Enjoy the games doc!

While it is typical of the Browns to screw that up, how about we stop letting multiple players on same team wear the same number? It's always seemed ridiculous.

Just as ridiculous, in one of the bowl games a player changed numbers during the game.
I think that in some cases, particularly with bigger schools/teams, it has to happen because of the number of players and the limited range of numbers that can be worn by each position.

So obviously my wife and I have GA area codes.  She got a call from Alabama yesterday, picked it up, some random guy yelled “ROLL TIDE” and hung up.

The guy is apparently just calling random 404 numbers to yell Roll Tide.

  • As everyone knows by now, Saban never loses to former assistants...11-0...odds are that ends at some point
  • But Saban defenses also rarely loses to pro-style QBs.  UGA may switch their O up some with Fromm and RPOs.
  • The UGA D can be thrown on...some think Bama could switch their O up some, including some Tua.
  • Or...what many expect...both O's play it close to the vest and grind out a 20-17 type game.
I think Bama could win comfortably IF they pass it effectively.  Huge IF...so likely it's a nail-biter down to a handful of plays.

An interesting side note...Smart had a bit of a rep at Bama for having trouble stopping HUNH offenses.  To the point where there apparently was an issue in '15 when Smart and Pruitt both built the game plan vs Clemson in the CFP.  Smart wasn't happy that Saban forced Pruitt into the planning. Wouldn't be shocked to see Bama then run more HUNH.

LOL! Reminded me of about three years ago. I am in Madisonville, TN getting some bacon at Benton’s Smokey Mountain Country Ham’s (stop by and get some bacon!). I have an Ohio State shirt on. There’s a big semi in the driveway and when I walk into the little shop there’s one customer. Typical OTR truck driver guy at the counter - a bit over weight, good old boy hat, etc. I give him a head nod and he obviously looks at my shirt. He pays and begins to leave, so I start talking to the guy at the counter. Before the truck driver gets out the door, I hear “Roll Tide!” and then a slammed door as he took off. I look at the guy at the counter and he rolled his eyes and we both chuckled.

So what's the backstory on Auburn and UGA being rivals? I know it's the Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South (tm), but why? Was it over a horse? A woman? What?
Schools are only 2.5 hours away from one another. Auburn is right on the Alabama-Georgia border and is actually closer for many GA kids than UGA. And there is a lot of animosity between the fan bases.

It was me.  I will be calling again soon

Watch out for Mecole Hardman tomorrow night for Georgia. Big play WR out of the slot who can cause mismatches vs Bama LB's and secondary.

Are there any stores on the Georgia side of the border that sell Auburn gear?

I ask only because I live in a border town and the Cracker Barrel here sells Connecticut gear, since we are closer to Storrs than Amherst. I always argued that kind of thing would get your place burned to the ground in many other parts of the country.

Yep strangely you can go into any gas station or convenience store and buy gear from most nearby SEC teams.
