2017 Survivor Thread (1 Viewer)

Funny, I was just doing GB's sched, and there's not a ton of looks.  Both CHI games, and CLE on the road, but seems like a good week to use them.

CIN is a big unknown to me though.  Don't have a handle on them.
Yeah I'd want to see them the first 2 weeks before I cast judgement. The big wild card is their RB situation. If it blows up like Hunt then I'd be thinking something different but if Mixon is still raw/learning/whatever and Hill is getting the bulk... then I like GB's chances.

Oh, regarding GB:

After the hurricane game was rescheduled, I wanted to see if it affected anyone negatively.

The TB/GB game in week 12 will be Tampa's 3rd road game in a row, and 4th in 5 weeks.

There are 8 teams with 3 game road trips this year, mainly because of no week 4 bye.

I've switched back to the Steelers.  Granted, last night proved once again anything can happen in this league but I just don't see any way the Steelers would blow this.

I'm in a reverse survivor pool where you pick losers, not winners.  Almost 200 entries at $40 a pop ... half the people picked Kansas City to lose (not me).  Woot!

Best of luck to anyone taking HOU this week.  The one game I known for SURE I wouldn't touch.
as much as it has that storybook appeal... Jacksonville is very unknown and unreliable and Houston you have no idea how they will do mainly based on the qb position.

if I weren't going bills I'd be doing rams and not feeling good about it... Tolzien will out perform expectations. heard it here first. doesn't mean Indy wins... but Tolzien will turn some heads

Not sure I'm ready to go there but if Alex Smith can learn how to throw a deep ball then maybe Tolzien can be good enough to beat a tough Rams D.

This one is tempting.  But one rule I have is don't get involved in Let's See Who Is Crappier contests.  Got burned on a HOU/JAX game few years ago.

Having said that, I think the Colts without Luck are really, really bad.

In the ESPN FBG one I have the Bills right now.  Very tempted to switch to Rams though.  Terrible spot for the Colts this week.

I agree, plus it's week 1. So no tape on anyone and the Colts have had a whole offseason to prepare for this game. It's not a sure thing that they are going to roll over

If you are already rolled over is it still possible to roll over?

interesting all of the "locks" were either wrong or nailbiters. one of the better picks was the most controversial ;)

onto week 2!
Had two Falcon entries, two Bills. Took a flyer on Rams too.

In my big pool, thousand people took Houston, 560 took NE.  So sweet.

One guy took Jax. Good for him.

can we change the title to just 2017 survivor... no need to update week by week and we can just keep one thread?

looking at this week I'm deciding between

Oakland v New York J

Carolina v Buffalo

neither have significant value rest of season. I'm leaning Oakland because I just don't see any other week rest of season I'd take them. they've got a lot of tough games... maybe @ buffalo but that's a huge maybe.

same with Carolina but Carolina has jets week 12.

I likely wont over think it and as a result just take Oakland. everyone likely will but it's a pretty good lock imo

Yeah, seems like a no brainer.  to take OAK.

Agree with those who are saying that Oakland looks like the best pick this week.  Looking at the grid I am surprised they don't have more future value.

I have one "getting cute" entry where I took the Rams in week 1. Meaning, taking a bad team vs. worse team.

I'll probably use that entry to take AZ this week. With five entries, I'm not going OAK at every one, and I don't want to use AS much this year.

They're on the road, but the Colts made the Rams look like the Harlem Globe Trotters.

I'm rolling with the Raiders.   Cards are a good choice but that's about it.

Keeping it simple this week and going with raiders. They have a very hard schedule the rest of the way and seems like a no-brainer. Went Rams and Bills last week so don't mind losing a good team with a tough schedule the rest of the way.

You don't like Ravens vs Browns?
Man, I don't.  Divisional opponent, young QB who looked good vs a top AFC team, young and hungry players everywhere for the Browns, and I dunno if we can trust this Ravens team.  I'm also wary of the Browns this year, they could be that spoiler all year long.

Full disclosure: I'm optimistic the Browns are on the right track, I may be overrating them.

You make good points but Ravens are an elite defense this year so I doubt a rookie QB in his first away game will do enough.

Rolling with Oakland this week. Arizona is probably a lock, too, but the rest of the big underdogs have too many question marks, IMO.

There are some good options this week in Oakland, Carolina, and Baltimore, but I am going with Seattle at home to the 49ers.  I just can not see the Seahawks starting the season with 2 losses.

This is a game I'm torn on. To the point where I would stay away. I can see Cleveland winning this game... they were one score away from beating who I think will represent the AFC in the superbowl (at least make the playoffs). Ravens have an awesome defense but I thought Pittsburgh did too. Also, one could say Cleveland has the second best OL in the league...

Cleveland is doing some great things lately (can't believe I said that). I will feel nervous picking against them all season TBH. Not that I think they go 15-1, let's be real, but there are a few games I would feel absolutely confident picking against them. At least for now. If it turns into a dumpster fire then let's rock and roll.

I hate using a team like Oakland this early but I just don't see a lot of easier games to pick for them ROS. The only game where they are favored by more than 4 rest of season is home vs the Chargers. Which is a divisional game.

This is a great pick, however I'd like to just mention that the Seahawks have a load of nice games rest of season:

Week 4: IND
Week 5: @ LAR
Week 8: HOU
Week 9: WAS
Week 12: @ SF
Week 13: PHI
Week 14: @ JAX
Week 15: LAR

Some are divisional games and some are vs some odd teams to figure out right now (HOU, PHI, WAS), but lots to like ROS... I'd consider holding onto them. Second highest rated ROS value according to survivorgrid.com

This is a really meaningful post and shows why a little pre-planning is necessary.  Use Oak this week.  Find a winner week 3.  Use SEA in week 4.

No way in hell. Ben on the road with a rusty Bell and Bryant, I saw that as a close game. Rookie QB in his first road game against dare I say it, the best defense in the league this year. Going to be a beat down.

My reservations on Baltimore rolling over Cleveland have more to do with not knowing what kind of Baltimore team shows up rather than Cleveland beating them. Baltimore wins or loses this game, Cleveland doesn't win. If that makes sense... hope you know what I mean. I agree that Baltimore should win, and likely will, I just don't view this Cleveland team as the Cleveland team we've come to know. And Baltimore I just don't trust. They looked amazing last week though... so a few more like that and I'll be anointing them best D in the league and so forth.

I guess I just don't know enough about Baltimore to feel like they will show up 100% or perform like they did last week. I viewed CIN as a potential wild card team this year, and they shut them out. So it's very possible that Baltimore is here to play this year.

after thursday night's game, I question if baltimore's defense is really that elite or is CIN's offense just truly pathetic?

I'm torn between Oakland and carolina

I really want to pick Oakland cause the jets never win there (even when Oakland sucks), but I would like to save them

I am not sure if the Raven D is great but it is good.  Cincy's O is downright awful.

Tells me pick Ari this week, Cle? next week...

Week 3

Will pass this week
NE vs HOU: NE back to their old ways, at home, vs a QB who I don't think can keep up with NE. LOTS to like ROS for NE though... I'd like to have them in my back pocket when no one else does. I have a feeling a lot of people take this game.

PIT @ CHI: This one makes a lot of sense, however I really would like to save PIT for Week 5 as they play JAX and I don't like any other games that week

GB vs CIN: GB looked awful last week and are a little banged up. A lot to like ROS for GB as well

PHI vs NYG: Avoiding just becuase it's a divisional game and it's the NFC East

CAR vs NO: I might take this one with a healthy Olsen, but I have no idea how that offense will look without him. NO is bad but not bad enough where I think they are above the divisional rule
------------------------------------------------------------------

Made the final cut
MIA @ NYJ: The Jets are that bad. Miami looks pretty good. This one is on my radar. If you're going to use Miami at all, it's this week or week 7 when they're at home vs the Jets. Either way it's the Jets

BAL@ JAX: Baltimore looks like the real deal. Their defense is stout and their offense is not bad. Jacksonville is terrible unless it's garbage time. The only other week I like Baltimore is Week 6 vs CHI, but I like other teams like HOU vs CLE or WAS vs SF that week better

DEN @ BUF: I don't see Buffalo's offense beating Denver's defense. I think this is a pretty safe pick.

Thoughts: I don't really like picking away teams, but all 3 games I like are away. This seems like a pretty easy win for Baltimore. I would like to pick Miami though, as I think they will do just fine. If it was at home I wouldn't hesitate. None of the three teams above have much future value, which at this point I'm willing to gamble on less of a for sure win in favor of using a team that I likely won't need to use. I'd love to have PIT, NE, and GB in my pocket for later in the season. According to Survivorgrid.com they are 3 of the 5 teams with the most value rest of season. If you use them now, and last until week 10 or even later, you're going to be picking tougher games.

GB over Cinci looks like a no-brainer even though some of the wideouts are banged up.  Cinci and both NY teams duking out as the worst teams so far.  Miami is very intriguing indeed.  But a divisional match up.  Probably going Green Bay.
