Aaron Boone is gonna get run out of town the way he handles this bullpen. Montgomery pulled at 80 pitches with a 4-1. He then brings in Jonathon holder for some reason despite having an off day yesterday. He loads the bases so he then brings in kahnle who blows the lead.

Big fan of the 25 he has at his disposal, but I hope he fails miserably. Such a terrible move to put this team in the hands of some inexperienced talking head.

I was not a fan of girardi any more but agreed they should've went with someone with experience. Continually pulling starters after 5 innings makes no sense. That being said some great bullpen pitchers are really sucking for him so far and that's not his fault. 

 
The rain is falling in Cincinnati but they are waiting it out rather than calling it, because the Cubs refuse to give up their off-day tomorrow. 

They play in Milwaukee on Thursday, and had made plans to go home first on Wednesday. They won't budge on those plans.

Fowler and Pham go yard back to back in 3 pitches to open up the game in Milwaukee. Yelich and Braun go back to back in 2 pitches to walk it off

Ok. Hypothetical question. Me and a buddy discussed this today... Divisional series, best of five. Five starters. You can only use one starting pitcher once and not in relief for the rest of the series... who do u start first? And, second. Third? Also, it's fluid, so u get to choose who to start next, win or lose.. 

I guess I should have said rank em 1-5

Shohei Ohtani is expected to get the start at designated hitter on Tuesday against the Indians.

Ohtani got the day off Monday after allowing three runs over six innings in his first major league start Sunday against the A's. The 23-year-old went 1-for-5 with a single and a strikeout in his major league debut out of the DH spot last Thursday. Shohei Ohtani crushed a three-run home run in the first inning in his first regular-season game in front of the home fans Tuesday against the Indians.

Ohtani finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and the three RBI. The highlight of the night was the homer, as the Big A burst into jubilation. Well, all except for the dugout, as his teammates gave him a mock cold shoulder before celebrating wildly in the six-run first inning. Ohtani had a rough spring, but he is proving Cactus League stats mean diddly. So far he has been everything as advertised, showing off his power arm as a pitcher while also displaying his big power at the plate. What a unique talent. Apr 4 - 3:55 AM

Actually it does and the numbers bear it out which is why most teams are adopting this strategy. Reliever use and effectiveness is at an all-time high.

Only gets noticed when it fails though.

lol... MLB network did the same thing. Tuesday they were talking about when it will be time to sit Ohtani down and make him only concentrate on pitching. Wednesday they are discussing what the Angels need to do to get his bat in the lineup more, including the day before and the day he actually pitches.  :lmao:

Again my original point was in an ISOLATED game it makes sense. The #s bear out that starters are less effective the third time through the order. But in a 162 game season, following this trend in April will tire out a bullpen very quickly. This strategy should only be used in playoff games. This is what the analytics are NOT capturing. The impact of pulling out starters after 5 to the rest of the team and season long impact.

 
I've said this a zillion times before.......especially with this stupid inter league crap, why cant we start the season in dome and warm cities?  why are the rays in ny?  why are the mets playing night games 4/3?  just start on a 7 or 10 game trip south and west and in domes.  jeeeesh.

Although I saw it noted elsewhere that the Reds probably aren't too upset about playing this on a Saturday in late May instead of a cold Wednesday afternoon in April.

 
Wednesday's game between the Royals and Tigers has been postponed due to frigid conditions in Detroit.

Daniel Norris had been scheduled to face off against Danny Duffy, but the forecast calls for 30-degree weather with snow and/or sleet arriving sometime this morning and possibly sticking around through the afternoon. The game will be made up with a day-night doubleheader on April 20.

I don't like the odds for the Pirates getting their game in either. Though the snow might be done by then, it's going to be in the mid 30s.

The problem is, the Rangers, like everyone else, want all their games when the kids are out of school. 

But of course, this is what happens when you schedule the Northeast games in April "to be fair" - they get snowed out anyway.

What I really don't understand is scheduling the interleague games in cold weather cities to open the season.  (Pirates/Tigers)

my point exactly........if you do this stupid interleague, at least figure out a way to get these games played. 

 
Enough of this waiting for kids to get out of school crap. Most kids don't care about baseball and those who do can skip school once in a while to see a game with family or a school field trip. Play these games in playable conditions.

Just give the rays the games in April. There will always be 13k there no matter who is in town, so it doesn’t really matter.

Because no one gets any crowds in early April and the teams want that lack of fans evenly distributed, just as they want the large crowds when the kids are out of school in June-August evenly distributed.

I am not going to steal MLB and I sure as he'll won't pay for it.  I have a 15 year old car so when I listen to AM radio, it's Seattle.  This team sucks so hard the announcers have given up.  They act genuinely surprised when Seattle wins a game.  

Serious question:  is there a ####tier team in all of sports than the Mariners?

I feel like I want to do fantasy again but 

a) really don't know that many people anymore

b) dont follow closely enough

c) will lose interest with daily lineup decisions

I seem to recall an angry response to that from the West Coast teams who argued that they would either always have to finish the year on the road (which is a detriment for fighting for the playoffs) or if not that, then have to go on a twelve game road trip in the middle of the year to balance out the schedule.
