2018 MLB Regular Season Thread! Current thread batting average: .420 (1 Viewer)

Its January 20 tomorrow, when are these guys gonna start to sign?
I think the teams know there’s no competition and can just wait until the players lower their expectations.  I hvaent heard of a single team other than Boston linked to JD Martinez. Also don’t Moustakas and Hosmer both have QOs?  Who’s going to give them huge money and give up a pick?

If it weren’t for the pick, I wouldn’t mind the Braves being buyers for Moose. I think he’d make a decent bit of sense if the price isn’t outrageous, but I’m not dropping a top 10 draft pick too.

For fun though, this lineup could contend for a WC...  there’s a lot of bad NL teams right now.

1. Ender Inciarte

2. Ozzie Albies

3. Freeman

4. Moustakas

5. Acuna

6. Markakis

7. Flowers

8. Swanson

Teams don't give up first round picks to sign the QO guys anymore, though.

I think the Braves would give up a second and a 5th and some bonus pool money.  It varies, though, for different teams based upon some convoluted formula related to revenue sharing and luxury tax payments.

I thought it depended on the overall contract value.

Probably wrong.

I'm a bit concerned Rockies did nothing to address their offense.  Awesome bullpen, but outside top 3 in the lineup it's a bunch of :bag:

mark appel taking an indefinite leave of absence.  presumably will become just the third number 1 pick not to make the pros.
Reading some of his quotes, the dude has a good perspective.  It seems like the game of baseball was taking him down a dark path and he is now focusing on other aspects in his life.  He does have a degree from Stanford so I think he realizes that there are plenty of options.  Kudos to him.

Sometimes it takes getting away from the game (which became work) to know what you are missing and find the love to play again.  He is still young enough to be able to step away and come back to give in a go.  I wouldn't say he is done yet.

There's an idea being floated in MLB of a manager being allowed to bat whoever he wants when trailing in the 9th.

MLB exec: "No other sport has the best players sitting on the bench in the final minutes of a game. Imagine LeBron, Brady, Renaldo watching from the sidelines"
:lmao:  Is it April 1st already?
