2018 NHL Offseason Thread: E.Karlsson is a Shark! (1 Viewer)

Darren Dreger‏ @DarrenDreger

Michal Kempny won’t be leaving Washington. Sources say he’s agreed to a multi year deal, despite outside interest, to stay with the Caps.

From Pierre Lebrun:

Always subject to change between now and Sunday, but at this hour on the goalie carousel, it would appear Carter Hutton is the leading option in Buffalo, Jonathan Bernier likely headed to Detroit and as we said before, Cam Ward likely to Chicago...

...and Chris Johnston is saying Stastny will stay in Winnipeg.

If the report that Cam Ward is only getting 1 yr 2.5 mil in Chicago is true, that's a real nice signing.

I figured he'd be looking for in the neighborhood of 3.5 or so. Especially on a one year deal

can the Islanders dress a shooter tutor?

and a little double dangle from our 1st overall

I guess if those reports all pan out, the Islanders end up with Lehner in the game of musical goalie chairs?
so, we're expecting this?

Hutton-BUF; Bernier-DET; Mrazek-CAR; Ward-CHI; Lehner-NYI

not sure what happens with Craig Anderson.

My alter ego Don Sweeney said today that he expects Khudobin is going in a different direction, so the B's will be in the market for a backup to Rask (I don't see Zane McIntyre as being ready ... Daniel Vladar probably is closer at this point).

How about Subban? ;)

LeBrun says the Kings are close on an eight-year deal with Doughty.

So what, exactly, are the Golden Knights planning on doing with that $30M + in cap space?

Just give most to Erik Karlsson (and Bobby Ryan)

$11M per season

@DimFilipovic

The Kings now have ~$54M in 2020-21 cap space tied up in:

38 year old Ilya Kovalchuk
36 year old Dustin Brown
36 year old Jeff Carter
36 year old Dion Phaneuf
35 year old Jonathan Quick
33 year old Anze Kopitar
33 year old Alec Martinez
31 year old Drew Doughty

@CanadiensMTL: The Canadiens acquire forward Joel Armia, goaltender Steve Mason, a seventh-round draft pick in 2019 and a fourth-round pick in 2020 from the Winnipeg Jets, in exchange for defenseman Simon Bourque.

DETAILS -> http://goha.bs/2Mym1CO.

Jets traded Mason and Hellebuyck is a RFA, so they technically have 0 goalies under contract currently.  This might or might not be an area of concern.

It won't be hard to find someone who gave them as much or more than Mason did last year for like $1M a season. Getting 4.1M relief in ditching Mason is huge for them.

Maybe they call the Leafs about McElhinney (or Pickard) to back up, I imagine Toronto gives that job to Garrett Sparks this season.

That's kind of what i meant. It's not like the goaltending carried the team last year. But as a Flyers fan, I don't feel qualified to demean another team's goaltending situation.

Not sure I see the point in this trade for the HABS. Why not use the 4 mil on a Stastny offer (or O'Reilly)? Granted it's only 1 year @ 4m but I don't think we need another 3rd line winger as much as a competent Centerman.

Speculation they're already shopping Mason and willing to eat some salary to move him again.

If they pull that off, getting Armia and some picks essentially for whatever dollar amount they retain to move Mason is smart, though it will still barely move the needle for them.

I figure they likely have to buy out Mason, but if they can move him all the better.

Most seem to think this is a good move for MB so maybe I'm just being a Negative Nelly like usual.  I can see more of these moves to eat up all our space and get late round picks and 3rd/4th line players.

Just sign and bring up Hutchinson imo

I like Armia but they did them a nice favor there.  and that franchise does not need favors.

Ive seen a couple people say SJ, TOR, NYI as the Tavares favourites but I refuse to have any expectations.
Word in NY is uncharacteristically optimistic- bringing Lou in changed this franchises perception in a minute. Couple that worth getting out of the (as fully predicted) disaster that was Brooklyn and suddenly the Isles' future is, well, at least maybe a future? Good draft from what I know, as well

Habs already put Mason on waivers for the purpose of buying him out.

If they don’t get a deal done today, he can’t sign for an extra year. Seems like it has to be today if it’s the Islanders.

They're absolutely headed in the right direction. Of the rumoured teams for Tavares, Toronto and Tampa offer the most obvious path to multiple cup runs but that's just one consideration.

Saw report from Yost today that said Erik Karlsson prefers Tampa. Maybe just let everybody go there.

Talking head from 590 Toronto:

Islanders know they’re out.....

Assuming, not reporting. But it’s sourced. A player on that team is “almost certain he’s gone”. Players haven’t been speaking about this, even to close friends & family. Now they are. “He wouldn’t jerk the other teams around until midnight if he was staying”. Exactly.

That’s a good point.
