2018 NHL Offseason Thread: E.Karlsson is a Shark! (1 Viewer)

Seems pretty clear the Leafs made a good call going from Lou to Dubas
meh...fan favorite and this team needs a familiar face for the fans to root for. Plus he is super cheap, esp going into his last year (2019) of the contract.

With de Haan gone now too, I'm not going to recognize this team next year.

From a Toronto perspective though, Lou was a bit too high on the Komarov and Polak types. Looks like he’s doing more of the same on the Island. Wonder what their offer was for O’Reilly. Would have fit nice with Barzal.

Stars are the front runner for Karlsson?  oh #### that
Not sure what type of package it’s going to take from them. Not a lot of top prospects to choose from, apart from Heiskanen. Seen Honka mentioned a lot as well.

That seems like a lot of money for De Haan but nice pickup for Carolina.

Lots of teams going to be in on Faulk now

I wonder what @falguy thinks about the Domi trade. I think it's another bad move for the Canadiens. I don't like Domi's game.

Interesting how the announcer says Domi's surge at the end of the year might be parallel with Arizona's struggles success. I'll buy that. I want to like Domi, I just think he's small and can't finish. He's like Duclair. Who do you take a flyer on. Galchenyuk or Domi?

why was Karlsson ever linked to Tampa at all?  Sens don’t trade within the division even if it’s a much better deal and they have zero chance of competing in the division anyway.

:loco:

I am usually pretty negative with all things HABS (well, all things Bergevin to be precise) and this is no exception. I don't like it. I don't see the real value in it unless they know they are losing Patches and need someone to score the empty netters ;) . I'm also tired of a team with possibly the worst depth up the middle in the entre league moving yet another centreman (Eller an example from a couple years ago). Yes, AG didn't play center this year but he is a centreman.

So, ya, I'm not impressed with the move.

He'd be the worst GM in Canada if not for the GM's in Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver...maybe even Calgary.  Looking at it that way, he may be the 3rd best GM for Canadian teams. There! That's a positive!

Thanks for the response, man. On my phone but will post thoughts of my own in a day or so.

@MikeInBuffalo: Shea Weber reportedly out 5 to 6 months after knee surgery, which means earliest return is December to January.

Tampa now the favorite for Erik Karlsson?

Assume Sergachev is a key piece going back, but Bolts need to dump that Callahan contract and probably make some other moves as well.

This division is getting a bit silly.

Not sure if Carey Price can stop the tank, but they really need to have a bad year and hope for Jack Hughes there.

Kucherov is an RFA after next season too. :OfferSheet:

so is Point. Both guys will command huge raises next year, and then Vasilevskiy is an RFA in 2020 as well. Gourde also going to be a UFA in 2019.

they do have $11.2MM coming off the books next year as from Stralman, Coburn, and Girardi so that would all basically go to Karlsson if they make this move.

I know someone with a ton of cap space, a need for some leadership, and an appreciation for Cally's grit.

The Dallas talk never made any sense, especially if Heiskanen is not part of the package. And even then, what else can the Stars give?

I can't believe Vegas is going to let him go elsewhere.

What’s a fair offer for him?
I honestly can't figure it out.

I would have thought Heiskanen was the key piece from Dallas, but now reports say he wasn't ever offered up by the Stars.

also heard rumors that the only team Karlsson wants to sign an extension with is Tampa but then that was reported as incorrect.

If Sergachev was going the other way, I don't think Ottawa would have to offer a whole lot more. They don't even have a 1st in 2019 to offer up, so maybe 2020 1st? Maybe another prospect at forward.

If he really wants to come to Tampa, Yzerman could also just wait it out and sign him next summer.

I’d hate to lose a guy like Sergachev who may have 12 years of elite play in him for 3-4 years of elite play from Karlsson, plus all the money it will cost to pay him, but I get it. Team has their window now.

Karlsson is basically like a top-5 overall player in the NHL. Can't believe teams aren't just offering up the world for him. If they aren't, that just seems to suggest he's not as open to signing with a lot of teams that are interested.

Him and Hedman as a pair in the playoffs is just amazing to think about.

a playoff series against Toronto would be amazing.

Hedman/Karlsson split up could mean at least one of them is on the ice almost the entire game.

“Prospect wise, I'm expecting Erne and/or Koekkoek to be going, along with Foote or Cirelli, and then a forward prospect like Raddysh. Hoping Katchouk and Joseph stay, but you have to give to get.”

From a Bolts writer on twitter. Seems light to me, although Foote is supposed to be a pretty good prospect.

The sad thing is that I dont even see the Rangers being bad enough to be in the Hughes sweepstakes.

They have not had a top 3 pick since the original 6 days. Enough is enough. Let's just suck and get the game changer.

I think I remember reading that Mcdonaughs contract would have had to be 1.5-2 million more per year in NY because of the taxes. That is crazy.

I'm surprised all Florida teams cant pull the best free agents.

Good luck to them. I hope they win the cup. Rangers get a first rounder if they do

Tampa deal for Karlsson reportedly done, waiting for trade call to league office.

Shawn Simpson @TSNSimmer

My NHL sources tell me a Karlsson deal to Tampa is done, pending a call with the league office. @TSN1200

I'd also be interested in knowing how other teams view his injury history.

I know that the Senators have their backs against the wall right now, but seeing fans & media put out untouchables lists for what they'd give up for a signed Erik Karlsson is nothing short of insane. He's the best defenceman in the world, third best player, and reasonably young.

The league-wide untouchables list for a signed EK65 should be: - Connor McDavid - Sidney Crosby - Auston Matthews - Patrik Laine - Jack Eichel That's it. That's the list. Maybe add Dahlin if you're 100% sold on him.

I don't agree with his list, but he's not way off. It's a pretty small list of guys that are too valuable to be traded for Erik Karlsson.

Two Sabres on the list. The future looks bright.

In all seriousness, that's an interesting list. I love Karlsson's game. Who doesn't? Oh, my nephew, who insists Karlsson's too worried about offense.

SMDH. I've failed with the boy.

I wonder what the holdup is. I’ve read Senators owner to extension complications.
Can you imagine a Tampa/Toronto series next year to go the Conf Championship with Tavares and Karlsson being added?

Fading Boston.

That's a ####ty list.  Don't get me wrong, Karlsson is great and a franchise D man, but it isn't as easy as a team giving up just anyone in trade for him.

agreed. if it costs $11MM * 8, you have to factor that into the equation as well.

I'm not sure a team could trade MacKinnon for him. I don't think Karlsson is a clear upgrade over Doughty. Taylor Hall would be tough to part with now. Other than that though, I have a hard time saying a team would be better off keeping guys like Patrick Kane or Barkov or Stamkos or Malkin than they would be with Karlsson on the team.
