Florida, Auburn and Texas (at the time) were all top ten. Florida and Auburn are still 10 and 11.

Bama has LSU and Auburn. If they lose to LSU, that leaves only Auburn as a quality win.
I was under the impression that the ranking at the time of play was less import than where those teams finish up at the end.  Maybe I'm mistaken.

In any event, the Texas win is incredibly diminished now and should be.  That's not a good team.  Agreed that Auburn and Florida are their signature wins this season and for Oregon's sake, I hope Auburn finishes strong.   :football:

Hmm well ok. I guess I just take bias into most comments here. My bad.
I'm resigned to the fact that Oregon or Utah will go to the Rose Bowl this year and that's good with me.  If Oregon gets there, I might even go.  The Rose Bowl is one of the greatest sporting events in the world.  Well, for those of us that live in the cold.  You might not get the same thrill of having 70 degrees on New Years.

I haven’t looked at the schedule. Is this in Cbus or Happy Valley?
There are a few FBG's that will be at that game.  I know I have had my tickets for 4 months.  I prefer the noon kick TBH.  I am older and hate having to fight traffic to get home later night. :sadbanana:

Last year was my first time going, and while it was amazing, dealing with traffic to get to the parade that morning made me want to blow my brains out.

I've found your problem.

Different strokes and all, but you couldn't pay me enough to watch a parade.  I instead hung out on Manhattan Beach, got stoned, bellied up to a great beach bar for fish tacos and beers, watched girls play volleyball in bikinis, experienced zero traffic en route to Pasadena, parked in a garage, rode a bus to the Rose Bowl, tailgated and got to our seats down low in the endzone while the sun basked our pasty white skin.  Almost as good as a parade!

It’s a blessing to have 70 here. As long as we avoid the 80s.

It has been on my wife's bucket list forever, so we were doing that regardless.  If I had to do it over, I would just get an uber to take us to within a mile of the area and walk in and would have been soooo much better.  Game was a ton of fun, though.  Even better to get the win.

Feel bad for FSU fans.  Had all the hype of Bob Stoops a few days ago so anything less than a homerun seems like a letdown.

Yeah, it sucks to go all that way, score a touchdown on 7 straight possessions and then lose on a last second field goal. Just trust me on that.

I'll be there. Irritated about the noon kick. was really hoping for a black out.

Utah or Oregon in the Rose Bowl against either PSU or OSU would be fine with me and a great game.
<AHEM>

Likely scenario here if Minn manages to beat PSU Saturday is OSU goes to the playoff and Minn goes to Pasadena. Assuming of course that OSU gets to and wins the B10 title game vs Minn.

LOTTA Gopher fans make that trip if it goes down. We've been waiting for a REALLY ####ing looooong time. And Minnesotans love to go to those warm places in January. Still trying like hell to figure out a way to go if the dominoes fall correctly.

SKI-U-MAH!!!!

Exactly. One loss LSU who's beaten a number of top 10 teams and only loss was #1, that's in easily over Georgia and OK.
Georgia is in if they win out - the more interesting scenario to me is if Auburn beats UGA and then UGA beats the SECW team.  Who goes?  It would have a to be a 2-loss Georgia team I guess.  They aren’t leaving the SEC out completely.

A dream scenario would be Bama beats LSU close, UGA beats Bama and they take LSU.  UGA and Bama fans lose their minds - amirite @Fat Drunk and Stupid?

They would not take lsu over the sec champ in that situation.  Unless uga has some non con game they can honk down the stretch

Did I read it here or somewhere else that there are rumors that Norvell has some issues with gambling that may be holding him back.

I dunno but not sure it’s fair to tie some other guys failure to Norvell’s potential. Some FSU fans are worried about this too.
Sure, but it seems like an awfully big step up considering what FSU just went through with Taggart.  He clearly wasn't ready for the job, which by all accounts is incredibly demanding.  Not sure why FSU isn't courting Matt Rhule.  Success at Temple, then goes to Baylor which was in utter ruins and turned that program around in a hurry.

Here's the ranking I see with hypotheticals baked in. Poke holes.

Bama/Lsu winner that also wins out

OSU/PSU winner that also wins out

Clemson winning out

SEC Champ that isn't the Bama/LSU winner.

Bama/LSU loser that wins out without reaching the SECCG

Oregon winning out

OSU/PSU loser that wins out

OU winning out

OSU/PSU winner that does not win out

Baylor winning out

SMU

Can’t argue any of that. Might be too big for him.

also I doubt the boosters go for it. You don’t shell out 20M to fire a guy just to hire the Memphis coach.

LSU Bama winner doesn’t have to win out. LSU could lose one to literally anybody and they would be in and Bama could lose to Auburn I suppose.

Is this a real thing or schtick?
USC has to prepare for the fact that Urban Meyer is likely not a candidate for the job.  Their president has declared this a non-starter.  This was BEFORE USC went out and hired an outsider for their vacant AD position, something they haven't done in quite some time.  It was a significant move and a seachange for a school that has previously hired former star athletes - with little to no AD experience - to do a tough job they weren't qualified for which led to some embarrassing failures.

The hiring of former Cincinnati AD Mike Bohn is significant and I think he'll bring in a coach that has no ties to USC.  And if Meyer isn't an option, who does he tap to replace Helton, once he fires him?  James Franklin isn't going to entertain any offers right now, so Bohn has to start working on his shortlist.  Why wouldn't that include Luke Fickell?  He's done a good job at Cincinnati, has experience running a big time program (albeit on an interim basis with mediocre results, which weren't really his fault) and he's a younger guy who has energy, unlike the milquetoast blob they have there now.  Last time they hired an outsider it worked out pretty well for them.

He is a players coach and is said to be a huge discipline guy that runs very tight practices.  As a former heavyweight wrestling champ, he carries that mentality as a coach as well, they say.  He is going to make a splash somewhere, you just have to give him the shot.
