2019 College football thread - It's 2020, yo. Go to the new thread. (1 Viewer)

I never played football in jr high or high school (I was a soccer sissy). I  therefore have an X’s and O’s question:

I’m watching the Cincy vs Memphis game and Cincy was driving late and running almost exclusively the “Wildcat”. When you know they are going to run the ball, what makes that offense so difficult to stop?
It’s a numbers game. Yes a traditional offense you have to account for the QB’s arm, but it’s 11 vs 10 on the field. When the QB position is more threateningly an offensive player, it’s 11 on 11. That’s the biggest gist without going deeper in theory.

@Brett_McMurphy: 6 of 78 bowl bids now officially set:

Cotton Bowl: Memphis
Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State
Rose Bowl: Oregon
Hawaii Bowl: BYU
Bahamas Bowl: Buffalo vs. Charlotte

LSU’s foot is off the gas now. The score now is the true measure if these two squads. Might end up 37-24 or something, but that shouldn’t fool anyone.

It’s a big part of what makes Lamar Jackson so incredibly difficult to defend. He can run like an elite RB but can also pass really well too. It’s like Wildcat on steroids.

They got a lot of work to do if they want to get to 24 in under 6 minutes, but I hear ya.

I get this part of it because the pass is a real threat. Not so much in a traditional wildcat.

@SethWEmerson: Regarding Georgia's bowl destination: The Sugar vs. Baylor was the most in play, but now the question is whether this pushes the committee to vault Florida ahead.

But one consideration: Virginia is the likely ACC team in the Orange. Georgia opens next season vs. Virginia.

[The Wildcat is] a numbers game..
Yes. Another way to think about it is that the Wildcat allows a traditional offense to exchange an ‘inactive’ QB (after handoff) for a sixth or seventh interior blocker on running plays.

In addition, the Wildcat often gets the ball to the ballcarrier a beat faster than a traditional offense does via handoff/pitch.

Why not send Florida for the simple reason that we know Georgia dgaf about the sugar from last year

Seriously: are there no UGa fans on FBGs? Can’t name one among this thread’s regulars.
@Native maybe? It is odd as big and obnoxious as that fan base is we don’t experience it here.

Sadly...

Ferris St 25 - NW Missouri 3

More like No Mo State, amirite?
Ferris is very very good. Mo State is not the team they’ve been in the past.

Not sure what the matchups will be but I’d love to see Ferris and Rock in the final

I think that's the point he's making.  If Oregon didn't play Auburn this year they would still very much be in the playoff conversation even with the loss to ASU.  If the conference champs got auto-bids, they're in.  Might see more big name OOC games if 2 losses (1 OOC and 1 conference) didn't pretty eliminate a team.
Oregon has a home-and-home with Ohio St the next two years, and plays Georgia in Atlanta the following year.

It’s obviously not smart if your only goal is to make the playoffs. But as a fan, I love it. Of course if you win the game, you’ve got a strength-of-schedule trump card over most teams.

To me it’s the biggest reason to expand to 8 teams - more teams would schedule up and we’d see more compelling early season matchups because the one loss doesn’t kill you.

LSU is undefeated.  Georgia beat multiple top teams.  OKL beat nobody outside of Baylor who also had a cakewalk schedule.
Ok cool so you didn't actually look at the schedule, it's just SEC bias. At least I've confirmed you can be ignored.

That no call blatant hold on the 3rd and 6 Coan run gave them their points.  They do look ready to play though.  OSU still might not be matching their intensity.  Time to turn it up.
Maybe I'm not watching the same game as you but the game I'm watching a Jonathan Taylor run gave them their points
