2019 College football thread - It's 2020, yo. Go to the new thread. (5 Viewers)

I agree with Replay overturning ONLY obvious miscalls, no judgement calls.  It is my opinion that replay at all levels, of all sports, has caused officials to be hesitant and make more wrong calls.  They are more worried about looking like idiots than doing their job.  Self-fulling prophecy.  I state this because I can't prove it.

Yep, if you can't over turn it within...I dont know, 10 seconds - then the monitor blacks out and resume play.
Well, that's one method, but I still don't think that would solve the issue, as judgment calls can be made in a millisecond.

What the replay ref should be thinking is not about deciding what the call should be, but instead about protecting refs from having made a mistake they'll regret. The best example probably comes from baseball, where Jim Joyce made a bad judgement call which ruined Armando Galaraga's perfect game, an act he apologized profusely to Armando for. But no apology will ever fix what he did. If a replay ref is focused on protecting refs from having to live with their bad calls, then replay would do what it is supposed to do. It's when the ref would have no issue living with the call they made on the field, but the replay ref overrules it anyway, that replay makes the game worse.

They should say

"Based on continuation rules Ohio State recovered the ball and scored a touchdown.  On video review the ball was not in control of the receiver and the play resulted in an incomplete pass, it is now 2nd down please reset the game clock to X:XX"

They should not use the word "Overturned" when indicating this has happened to the audience, and should look to address this in the offseason as it is not an accurate reflection of what actually happened in any context whatsoever.
The part you are missing is that "continuation" does not require the refs of the field to officially rule that continuation was the correct call. They can let the play continue and then after it all ends they can make the official on field ruling that the play was dead earlier. At that point the replay ref would have to have indisputable evidence that the play was not dead, and the continuation is the correct result. The SEC refs had every right to rule after the play ended in the end zone that the pass was incomplete and there was not fumble and no TD. They chose not to. Their official ruling was it was caught, fumbled and returned for a TD. It was overturned by the replay ref, and the NCAA's national coordinator of officiating admitted publicly today that it was wrong to overturn it. Again, "continuation" does not limit what the on field refs can rule. "Continuation" simply avoids not knowing what would have happened.  The replay should be kept as part of the game. So should "continuation". What needs to be eliminated is replay refs making judgement calls.

Dylan Moses back to Bama. Henry Ruggs may be next to follow that lead. Tua teasing it all via social. Something crazy happening, or cruel.

ESPN just said he was #25 on Kiper’s board. That’s a lot of risk trying to move up 15 spots. Just because he’s coming back doesn’t mean he moves up.
Yeah ... a bird in the hand and all. Even a third-round pick's bonus is enough to keep a kid from eating out of garbage cans.

Maybe kids are getting bad advice and buying into it? Dunno.

Came out today the nfl advisory board gave him a first round grade. Baffling.

This UK QB is running around with a bunch of pop warner defenders trying to tackle him.  They need to pipe in Benny Hill music.

Literally a one man team.  Don't go out like this Bud Foster.  Not like this.

The announcers wistfully saying “this is the way college football is now” while discussing players skipping the Tony the Tiger Bowl so they can avoid getting hurt so they may potentially make millions at the next level is killing me.

I would take an ASU jersey with Tony the Tiger on it in a hot minute.

I guess millions of dollars are Grrrrrreat!!!!

ETA: iirc Jadeveon Clowney basically sat out a whole season to stay fresh for the NFL so what’s a bowl game?

Aaron Torres✔@Aaron_Torres

Can't share too many details just yet, but I'm hearing we could get some MASSIVE college football news in the next 24 hours. Stay tuned

Saturday Down South (@SDS)

12/31/19, 7:55 PM

FUN FACT: Texas’ 1st game of the decade was in the Rose Bowl vs Alabama for the BCS National Title.

Their final game of the decade is sponsored by a gas station and in an old dome near a Margaritaville.

Maybe confirming Jamie Newman to OU, but then Torres would be guilty of overstatement.

Go Devils! Also, for those that missed this game, here’s an excerpt from the ESPN recap:

“Jayden Daniels was named the game's MVP after going 12-for-28 passing for 198 yards to lead the Sun Devils. He also ran 36 yards and a 2-point conversion.”

That’s right - the MVP went 12 for 28 passing for under 2 bills. He also officially got sacked 3 times but it felt like 30.

He didn't even start the season as QB lolol.

But definitely so, this UK year is best titled: Catch Me If You Can starring Lynn Bowden.

Lynn Bowden statline yesterday:

6/12 passing for 73 yd :lmao:

34 carries :lmao:   :lmao:   :lmao:  for 233 yd

I mean, at the very least, Mark Stoops has discovered the most likely way to win games is to just let your best player touch the ball as often as possible. (Wow much amaze)

Lol...Torres was just on Tuscaloosa radio and the only think he ruled out was a Saban move.

Im officially wild a$$ guessing Riley to Cowboys.
Some kid with a weird name decommitted from OU today and now everyone thinks this is happening

I went for a walk this morning thinking that the glorious 62 degree day would be perfect for the Gator Bowl....if they hadn't moved it to tomorrow night.

Personally, we had a family tradition of buying Gator Bowl nosebleeds through a fundraiser for my wife's school. We bought the tickets before the matchups were known. That's how we had the misfortune of being on the Miss State side one year and loathed the Cowbells.

Oh well. I'm  sure the Vols fans will be insufferable this year since ummm, no Butch Jones I guess.

(Once the Gator Bowl got moved from New Years Day, we're out.)
