2020-21 NBA *Playoffs* Thread: Bucks are the champs and you can take that to the bank bromigos (10 Viewers)

That 2011 Mavs team had like 4 hall of famers in or right at the end of their primes. And a hall of fame coach. It was absolutely not one of the worst teams to win a title in the last 40 years.
I understand why they didn’t, but it’s a shame they didn’t run it back with that team.

I know of Dirk and Kidd (who was 38)

Here are the teams I don't think they stand up too

80's Pistons, Lakers, Celtics

90's Bulls, Rockets, Lakers

00's Lakers, Spurs, Celtics

10's Warriors or Lebron teams.

Sorry that doesn't leave much left.

To be fair literally every team who made the post season this year hasn't looked good in the playoffs. It's been pretty sloppy basketball, with tons of injuries, players flopping constantly and constant stoppages in play ruin game flow. The Injuries and sloppy play can be credited to not have a full offseason before starting this. I don't think anyone would've minded more rest and a shorter season schedule this year.
Agreed just weird that a poster singled out the Bucks when no one as looked great these playoffs.

I singled them out because they are tied with the Suns for best odds to win the championship, which is odd to me.

I also thought the game 1 spread was ridiculous given their recent play.

As a big Suns fan, I can assure you I'd rather play the Hawks than the Bucks because the Bucks are scary when they are hitting from outside, but that doesn't mean I agree with the market sentiment.

I think we all need to realize how lucky the Hawks are to be here. Not only did the 76ers have two epic collapses last round, but before the deadline they were trying to trade Collins.

I really like Collins, if they let him walk please come to the Pistons. Cade, Grant, Bey, Hayes and Collins could be a young and fun group to watch grow.

Oof.

Tried to tell yall. Chris doing what he does best.

It had me thinking for a second, like when worlds collide. The bigger choker between PG and CP3. It's definitely Chris.
Everytime the Suns seem to be about to get back into it--he takes a contested step back 3.  What are you doing?!  You're 2 wins from the Finals.  You've got one of the best players in the league ready to take over.  And you're going into hero mode?

The Suns should still win this series, especially if Kawhi doesn't come back, but there is a reason why Paul has never even made it to the Finals.  He comes back and they get their asses kicked by a Clippers team missing their best player.  That is telling.

At first I was thinking you meant playoff PG

CP3 really bogged down the offense tonight.  He completely changed the flow they had going in games 1 & 2.   Beverly played really good D, but the main reason the offense was clunky tonight was CP3.  He dribbled so much.  Brutal to watch.

Woohoo!!!  That was fun!

Loudest I’ve ever heard staples center for a Clippers game (even though there were a bunch of Suns fans there).

Even my too-cool-for-school high schooler lost his voice from all the screaming and chanting we were doing. Lots of high fiving the people around us and fun trash talk with the Suns fans near us.

6pm weekday games in downtown LA should be illegal though. It was no wonder it was half full at tip-off. We had to leave home at 3 to get there early.

I’m not convinced the Suns should win.  They could easily be down 2-1 in the series if not for some poor defense on that inbound play at the end of game 2.  I did notice, like others are saying, that the offense looked worse with Paul and not better.  That could just be an off night or great D by Beverly but nothing I saw watching it led me to believe the Clippers couldn’t do this again 3 more times.  Even more so if Kawhi comes back.

Fair points, but I have to push back on the bolded.  We have no idea how the game plays out last night if the series was tied 1-1 going into that game.  I am not a believer in "change the result of this game and everything still turns out the same way going forward."  The Clippers, down 0-2, obviously played with a lot more desperation last night, while the Suns kind of had that "we are up 2-0, not a big deal if we lose this one" look about them.  Still not a good look for Chris Paul, as his return should have nullified that "lazy" approach the rest of the team had, but I stand by my main point.

Team was in the neighborhood of as good as the 90s Rockets, probably those 00s KG Celtics and definitely beats the latter half no-Shaq Lakers (remember, they beat the #### out of the defending champ fully healthy Kobe Lakers in 2011). I think they certainly stack up well against the LeBron Heat (they did beat them the first time) and mid 10s Spurs. Given how close they were in 06 with a worse team, I'd say they're likely better than the 06 Heat too.

The number of times Dirk with worse teams were in the WCF where a guy like Tyson alone would have put them up with and maybe past the Spurs in the 00s is non-zero also IMO.

Shawn Marion's a pretty surefire HOFer (bball ref has him at 75%)

I probably overstated with 4. That's 3, plus small chance for Tyson (12%), and I was surprised at how Jason Terry seems not close. He beats the Mitch Richmond line I'd have thought (ha!). Peja on that team as well, though no longer prime for sure (year 11 of his career?)

It isn't just about beating teams once in the playoffs or how far Dirk took them with a lesser team. The Pistons beat the the Lakers in 04. They were the better team that series. Not overall.

Plus you are all over the map here. I assume you are a fan of the Mavs. You want to say they are better than the Heat with Lebron, Kobe and Gasol Lakers, and the 10's Spurs because they beat them once, and then better than the 06 Heat who they lost too.

Plus we are also talking about team achievements. They don't compare to any of those teams I mentioned. All these teams won multiple titles or went to several finals. Many of them consecutively. The Mavs don't stack up to the last 40 years and there is nothing wrong with that, they still were the champs.

Paul coming off of Covid and Booker in the mask and Payne getting hurt had something to do with it.

Already sick of the Hawks crying about Giannis's free throw routine.  So what if it takes 11-12 seconds instead of 10?  You could technically call traveling violations and moving screens on just about every possession, too.  Some things have just always been overlooked.

I would love to see this happen for an entire season.
