I would be surprised if Arizona goes WR that soon.  Without looking it up, it feels like they’ve put a lot of draft capital into WR recently.
Yet they didn't get it right. KeeSean Johnson won't make it and Fitz is just a bit player now.

I think Isabella will have a better year two and Kirk is okay. But the Cards philosophy means to spread defenses out and hit them quickly. It's also why I wouldn't expect to see them drafting linemen highly anytime soon.

Ah.  I’m betting then that I’m higher on Kirk than you are.

I hope the Colts don't take Love that high.  With Ballard at the helm I doubt that is the pick.  He seems to maximize value and I would think that is a reach for Love.  Maybe it is too early and Love will rise, but for me that would be a bad pick.

Love at 13 would be a massive reach. He's a round 3 level prospect, who has far more bad tape than good. I was shocked he didn't stay in school.

I think the Raiders would be thrilled to get Okudah and Lamb(arguably 2 top-5 talents) with their picks.

Someone is gong to fall for Love on the 1st. And the options at QB are more limited than first appeared.

Love presents a floor of zero, of course. But I can't see the Colts going full Brissett again either.

Actually, I think Indy is where Tom Brady should end up...

Don't take my argument as an insult.  I am a Colts fan and would be bothered by the pick.  No one knows what many of the picks will be, but I love the time and effort you put into this thread!  It is easy for me to nitpick your draft apart, it is much harder to put a draft together.  Thanks again!

Aside from Jeudy in ARI, those are some pretty tasty fantasy landing spots for WRs...the RBs aren’t all that bad, either.  You probably put Akers at no worse than the 1.02 going to KC, I’d imagine

Rock solid list. I could see the Cards going Jeudy at #8, but if they go that route I can’t see a TE at #40 with the needs they have at OL and defense.

It’s the season 👍🏼

Those moves for the Lions make sense but I am praying they are able to trade back for a team that wants Tua.

8. Arizona - Jerry Jeudy Alabama Jr WR

Pretty interesting run on WR happening here.

Something similar happened in 2015 with 4 WR being taken in a row towards the end of that draft. With Houston trading up to take Will Fuller. The Vikings drafted a WR from that group who shall not be named.

Are these WR that tight together in terms of their talent level?

What makes Jeudy a tier ahead of the rest of them?

6 WR's before the first RB?  Going all the way back to the advent of the forward pass, it's only happened once.  Either Swift isn't as complete as a few people believe, the WR's are crazy good, or these young RB's need to pick a new position in high school.

Yes

Nothing.

Correlation isn't necessarily causation but when you see guys like Mostert, Chris Carson, Ekeler, Aaron Jones, Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon, Derrick Henry etc. performing well as non-first rounders while guys like Gurley, McCaffrey, Barkley, and Elliott aren't in the playoffs...it should give teams pause as to investing heavily into the RB position.

Agreed.

What makes Jeudy a tier ahead of the rest of them?
He's not.

I can see Arizona as a good landing spot for jeudy, but taking him top 10 is a mistake. One often repeated (Ginn, DHB, Austin, just to name a few that come to mind immediately taken that high just for their speed) so it's certainly possible.

I get the thought process but really don't think Eason and Fromm fall into the 2nd. One might, but I'd bet good money that one of Indy, Carolina, LAC, or even Jacksonville trade up into the 1st (with SF) to get the one they want.

Herbert will be taken top 3.

Thanks for doing this, it's always a good conversation piece as we get to know the players we might not already.

Easily the most replaceable position other than kicker. Although Henry might change a few minds about their value.

5. Miami - Tua Tagovailoa Alabama Jr QB

18. Miami (from Pittsburgh) - Kenneth Murray Oklahoma Jr LB

26. Miami (from Houston) - Yetur Gross-Matos Penn St. Jr EDGE
It will be interesting to see what Miami gets with all those picks.   Phin fans would be pleased if they got that haul.

I would be surprised if Arizona goes WR that soon.  Without looking it up, it feels like they’ve put a lot of draft capital into WR recently.
The Cards knew they had a weak O-Line but had no choice to bite the bullet thinking/hoping Kyler's speed would help but they gave up over 50 sacks last year.

Not so much a matter of great resources put into WR but a matter of addressing glaring need on O-Line.  In addition to the guys we saw  at WR they also have Hakeem Butler waiting in the wings and I think he's got potential as a fantasy sleeper.

12. Las Vegas - Jeff Okudah Ohio St. Jr CB

19. Las Vegas (from Chicago) - CeeDee Lamb Oklahoma Jr WR
Ohio state corner with size in a class entering a league where teams crave corners.  I think he will go top-ten and potentially top-five.

Some  rank Lamb top  WR,  probably not but would not surprise me to see him go higher.

Lots of  open  QB spots and analysts think their could be a lot of teams moving up to take a QB.  Lots of smoke of teams moving up.

I think if rivers plays this year it's in indy

I'd say either Tampa or Jacksonville are more likely. Maybe Carolina.

As far as the receivers go, CeeDee Lamb is far and away my favorite receiver in the class. I don't watch a ton of college ball but he last time I caught a glimpse of a guy that was so obviously a difference maker was the one and only time I saw Ndamukong Suh play his last game for Nebraska.

The only first round WRs in the playoffs were Hopkins, Davis, M. Brown and Harry (and 3 of the 4 were complete busts so far - Brown and Harry have time) - meanwhile the "studs" like Thomas, Adams, Metcalf, Hill, Diggs, Thielen and AJ Brown were not first round picks. We could do this with just about any position.

And it seemed a bit contrived that the first part of your RB sentence featured guys that performed well as non-first rounders but Gurley, McCaffrey, Barkley, and Elliott got a "not in the playoffs label" although some have been in the playoffs before and all have performed like complete studs.

It just depends on if any of these rookie RBs are considered elite - maybe they are not. If so spending a first round pick makes good economic sense since you get five years at a below market salary.

Well I DID preface it with "correlation isn't necessarily causation".

I'm not implying that these guys aren't worthy or couldn't go in the first. But the position is certainly minimized in importance in today's NFL. It's unlikely that teams in the top half of the first will take a back and few of the teams in the second need one.

Given the RB performances in the playoffs, however, is possible that the pendulum starts to swing back that way.

I mostly agree with everything you are saying here (and honestly I also agree that at least 3-4 WRs will go before the first RB) but just not the way it was presented in the other post I quoted.

I like some of these RBs, especially Dobbins and Swift, but I'm not sure they will be considered elite enough to go in Round 1, but I expect at least one will.

At least one RB will go in the first round since a running game remains important.   No RBs will go top 10 though.

I guess the same can be said for WR's...

2018 - first 3 WR's taken were DJ Moore, Calvin Ridley, and Courtland Sutton - none made the playoffs
2017 - first 3 WR's taken were Corey Davis, Mike Williams, and John Ross - only Corey Davis made the playoffs
2016 - first 3 WR's taken were Corey Coleman, Will Fuller, and Josh Doctson - only Will Fuller made the playoffs
2015 - first 3 WR's taken were Amari Cooper, Kevin White, and Devante Parker - none made the playoffs

Of those 12 WR's, the only one not selected in the first round was Courtland Sutton.  Two of the 12 WR's finished as WR1's.

2018 - first 3 RB's taken were Saquon Barkley, Rashaad Penny, and Sony Michel - Rashaad Penny and Sony Michel made the playoffs
2017 - first 3 RB's taken were Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, and Dalvin Cook - only Dalvin Cook made the playoffs
2016 - first 3 RB's taken were Ezekiel Elliott, Derrick Henry, and Kenyan Drake - only Derrick Henry made the playoffs
2015 - first 3 RB's taken were Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, and TJ Yeldon - only TJ Yeldon made the playoffs

Of those 12 RB's, Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, and TJ Yeldon were not selected in the first round. Six of the 12 RB's finished as RB1's.

Okudah has been mocked as high as 1.03.  I don't think that happens unless nobody trades up, but top 10 seems almost a lock.

The chiefs seem almost too perfect a fit for one of these guys. That said, you could see where a team trades up from the 2nd to get their QB, and the RBs fall to the 2.

🤷‍♂️

All the guys I have ahead of him are potential difference makers too. If three QBs go top ten that only leaves seven more spots.

NYG need a WR in the worst way. they'll get the pick of the litter as the firs team selecting a WR in the draft.can't see them going in any other direction. they need weapons for Jones, not 40 yr old Tate, or broken Shepard, Engram, etc.

Welcome to NYG, Mr Jeudy

*and, thanks for doing this list OP

I thought about a receiver for them but it's too high in the first for that. And I wanted to show Simmons going high.

Plus, they have to be excited about Slayton.

If Tua doesn't make it to 5, I'd be happy with Love at 18 for Miami as it stands now. I think he's got the goods and would benefit from sitting a year while Fitz manages the offense on a learning curve.

I like the draft overall. Nice work.

Poor Detroit has the only team in the top 20 that has NO CHANCE of taking a QB drafting right behind them.

No leverage.

eta - OK minus AZ and DAL
Sure, but Gettleman doesn't trade down, and someone is going to move up for Tua. Detroit's dream is that someone trades up to 2 for Tua and they get Young, but probably they will move down to pick 5-8.

I liked him at 4. I can't believe how many mocks I see with him falling to the Raiders. He's going top 5, or very close to it.

After the Senior bowl, Herbert is definitely in play at #2.  It remains to be seen if he's able to maintain/build upon that momentum at the combine.  Tua almost certainly will not be working out.

Before I decided to not do trades, I had the Bengals doing the crazy thing of trading down to #5 and Miami took Burrow and Cincinnati took Herbert. Then Tua went to the Chargers at #6.

I think it's more likely that the Redskins and Lions trade out of 2 and 3, but that would be one hell of a move for Miami.

You may be right, but I'd be pretty surprised if Herbert goes over Tua. Tua won't be working out, but he'll be getting medical evaluations. As long as things look positive from there I think he goes the 2nd QB and goes top 3.

As a dolphins fan, I shudder to think what you had the dolphins giving up 😂

It's not as much as you might think.

The "trade chart" isn't terribly accurate but it is really just the 5, 18, & 39.

So the "cost" is the 18 & 39.

Agree with this.

I think Burrow goes 1 to Cincy.

Then Young, Herbert, and Tua in some order between 2 and 4.

There's too many teams in need of a QB near the top of the draft and those top QBs have enough positive attributes that when all is said and done, Tua/Herbert end up ahead of Jeff Okudah, Derrick Brown, Isaiah Simmons, etc.
