2021-22 Battle for Shining Path's Cup - Semifinal time!! (3 Viewers)

8.09 - Trey Sermon - RB - SF

@Keerock

eta* This pick is, um, ambitious, but I don't think he would have come back around. Needless to say, I'm pretty bullish on him. I missed out on him in a rookie draft where I went with Javonte Williams instead at 1.05. I might regret passing on him for Williams when all is said and done. I think I fell victim to thinking about rookie ADP rather than where I had him slotted, but I've learned I know nothing vs. consensus, so we shall see. But I'm not missing twice.

also, explain this to me like it's my first league:

Waiver Claims

How Are Claims Resolved

Waiver Priority

Process Game-Start Waivers On

Wednesday, locking at 2:00 AM PDT

First-Come-First-Served

After Wednesday 5:00 AM PDT

I think so.

And I guess I don't understand the boggle about waivers. The settings seem to say first come, first served after 7:00 AM on Wednesday. I don't recall there being an issue last year - but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. What do you remember from last year @rockaction?
I remember getting bumped in priority after Wednesday. IIRC, every claim bumped me somehow. I could really be remembering it wrong b/c I stream K and D, but I thought that happened. It might have been due to Thursday games somehow. I just remember not figuring it out and it being hinky. I’m not used to waivers like this though since I really got into the hobby with FCFS and then we moved later immediately to FAAB, so the issue could be I just don’t understand very well.

The waivers work the same way they did last year.  The initial waiver priority is set based on draft order.  Since I'm third from last, I have waiver priority 3 going into the first week.  After the first week, waiver priority is then set on W/L record and points scored, so if you were the worst team in week 1 you will get your first overall waiver claim.  The second worst team would then get their top waiver priority (if they had one) and it will go down the list.  It would then go back to the worst if they had a second waiver.  After waivers are done, it is then first come first serve on Wednesday morning.  Waiver priority resets weekly based on W/L record afterwards.

The TE being dropped was a pretty sizable change, and I checked with Andy right after the draft started to make sure it was intended.  Probably should have called it out to everyone to make sure they noticed it.  The roster requirements still require you to have a TE but you don't have to start one.

IIRC, waiver priority was determined by the previous week's points scored (don't know about prior to week 1 being completed, all first come first serve I think?). You put in your claims any time before the waiver processing time. It processes those then after that it's first-come first-serve on whatever is left on the wire.
That would be weird. The current setting says "Reset Order Weekly - Yes, reset to reverse standings each week".

Correct.  It is really how I typed up above.

I’m just wondering how and when you lose priority when you add a guy. Seems to add an element of added strategy to the add/drop process. I do not recall it going by pts. scored the previous week. I remember standings, but I was totally confused last year.

I set up the roster and scoring requirements in this way in an attempt to minimize positional superiority.

What I mean is, for example, is that TEs are a flex possibility but not required because other than the top three the position is a mess. But those three are great assets.

And yes, you can start three RBs but by the time you get to drafting your third you might be missing out on filling one of the two required WR spots.

And QBs should always get 6 points per TD because I don't get a player scoring 4 for one type of TD but 6 for another. Just a preference.

I like to reward and be rewarded for considering whole roster construction. I don't like it when leagues slant the table to teams that can take advantage of the "land rush" that comes with one position being more important than the other.

I honestly like the set-up, down to the no TE requirement. That’s not blowing smoke; I genuinely was pleased with no TE and the six points for passing TDs.

Sorry if I confused the matter. It's as Corp stated. Pts scored is the tie-breaker after reverse W-L record order.

The way these normally work is that once you have a successful claim, you get bumped to the bottom of the rotation, then it goes to the next person based on the waiver priority order. Rinse and repeat until all claims are processed.

Hmmm...I think I might like the option of "No, use a rolling order that never resets" better.

Should the worst team get the first waiver priority every week? I dunno...

K?!?!?  What league is this?
Oh my. Whoops. We're doing the Summerpalooza music/football draft and we have a K there historically. I got the two all flipped and reversed. And I think Northern Voice, our stalwart commish over there, was looking to get rid of the K there this year, too.

Yup, I like it too. Just wish I would have seen it sooner. An interesting, possibly disastrous idea, considering the big 3 and then ???? at TE, would have been to go RB TE TE and take the position away from all but one other guy. :)

Generally that is the way almost all leagues I've been in do it.  The theory is that the worst team need the most help, so they get first dibs each week.  Of course they still only get their top pick, they don't get everyone they want and then it rolls to the next.

In points league baseball I've done, I've seen the other way where once you actually use a waiver, you get sent to the bottom of the list, so some people never do waivers because they are waiting on a minor league call up and want to be near the top of the waiver order.

Bottom line I wouldn't change it :)  but also I appreciate you setting it up each year so I don't feel strongly.

True story. Late 90s, early 00s, I wrote fantasy articles for Mike at FFToday. I was the idp guy. It was a kinda new thing. Early December 01 or 02, I forget exactly, I had a great team (Gannon, Moss, Moulds, PHolmes) eliminated from the staff idp league because Jeffephen Reed hit 6 FGs in a game. The last one a 50+ yarder with a 4 pt bonus. I lost by a point.

On the forums I started protesting something as dorky as kickers in serious ff leagues. The next season I launched Goidpankal. Geeks Only Individual Defensive Players And No Kickers Allowed League. It was the chaos I commished. It grew to 22 starters, 2q bs, lots of flex on both sides of the ball. I won 5 of the first 6 years (lucky as he11, I know) using this place way more than FFToday. Matt Waldman was a FFToday guy and played in it back in the day.

I became friends with Bloom and Bramel here. Got them and some other "experts" into the league. Never won again, just sniffed the playoffs a few times. The league became kinda legendary with those kind of diehards. Bloom called it the most challenging draft he participated in. I quit all things FF in 2015 but someone else took over Goid. I just noticed on twitter it finally died this year. It was a run - 18 years.  :)

I'm bored.

I forgot that was you!!  I played in that league a couple years. I got the "no kickers" idea from it. :hifive:

I was gonna mention I thought I dragged you into it or you declined, but couldn't remember which. It was fun. Bloom killed that league twice when it came here. Pretty sure you were on board to see just how slick and smart that guy really is. Became an owner here. :)
