2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (3 Viewers)

Just curious why Jokic being MVP again is somehow controversial. He led the league in PER, Win Shares, Box +/-, VORP, and rebounds. His PER rating was the highest in league history, and he was the first player to hit 2000/1000/500 in a season. And he played without the Nuggets #2 and #3 best players all season. what's the knock on Jokic that makes his selection unworthy?

Nothing just Sixers fans complaining since they knew that was the only hardware they might see this year. Embiid had a great season and I'd say any other season it's his but without Jokic Den isn't even sniffing the playoffs. Philly is still good enough without Embiid they could make it as a play in team or as the last playoff team before the playoff in a weaker conference.

Plus some people don't like the fancy stats

They miss a lot of calls where a player changes his pivot foot. I think more than five people here understand that element of traveling.

I think we can all agree that the league is very very liberal on the rule no matter what. If they called it and enforced it more they could see scoring gong down and we just can't have that now can we?

Like I posted the other day they could call a moving screen on every Golden State possession too.

We could also call palming the ball more too.

My biggest gripe with NBA rules isn't the rules themselves, just more of the fact how the NBA picks and chooses what to follow when they feel like it or barely enforce a Rule at all. I think better emphasis on rules that are in place need to be dished out before any drastic changes are made though.

2000/1000/500 .....nobody has ever done this in the NBA....think about that.....nobody....name every great/elite/mt. rushmore/hall of famer....not one.....

Joker might have had 750 assts if they had someone that could shoot........and those aren't even the "advanced stats" Jokic put up that nobody has ever....

I get it....if you are on the playground he may not be one of the first guys picked....but in a room of NBA GM's he would be in the conversation....and very well might be....there is much more to the all around game then the uber athletic fan boys want to talk about because it doesn't make the lead in highlights on sportscenter....

they have never wanted to call traveling because it takes away from the highlights that end up on sportscenter....if they call it, we don't get to see the great "finishes" many of the travels lead to, and the NBA doesn't want that nor do they want less scoring....I am actually getting a little more used to it....and some people above are correct, the traveling rule is not understood by many...especially the NBA's version of it....I actually used to be one of those people before I watched a video of NBA refs explaining how they call it...

the bolded  above is what I actually have the biggest problem with....almost every player does this now and it's not even close....most of the "amazing moves" you see where defenders seem to be left with broken ankles would not be possible if they properly called palming/carrying....in most cases they are literally double dribbles......

the message refs are sending regarding block/charge is to flop if you want the call. i'm done bagging on floppers. you stand strong and take one, no call or block. you flop you have a chance at the call. play to win the game. flop away men.

Milwaukee shoots 14 FTs that quarter to Boston's 3. 10 more FTs for the game. Foul count is 21-11.

Celtics are fouling more, but not that much more.  4 times now Van Gundy has stated he disagreed with a call against Boston.

Boston going to win this game.

Hortford is playing better now than he did back when they first signed him from the Hawks.  Ageless.

Yeah, with no horse in this race I'm enjoying watching the old man resurrect his game.  I honestly thought he was done after OKC.  He's had a great series thus far.

Yep.  It’s funny how people want to “interpret” the Most Valuable Player award as “best player award.”  It literally isn’t the name of the award.   Just read the name out loud. It’s not complicated.

And yes, Giannis is the best player in the NBA right now.  And Jokic was the MVP.  And that’s ok.
It's funny when people take the name of the award literally.  We all know that MVP is the best player, not "most valuable to his team".  It's the same in the NFL.  It has nothing to do with who is more valuable to his team.... if that's the case, then an injured player who misses the whole year could be in the conversation if his team sucks (exaggerating, but you get the point).

Shocking take.

Great game, fantastic series so far. Giannis so out of gas, and I don’t think it’s going to get easier on him
