I'm not able to watch tonight (at work). Somebody clue me in on wtf happened after the half for Boston? Spo adjustments or shots just stop falling?
Energy level. Boston stopped hustling (may just be tired), turned it over a ton and fouled a ton.

Then Grant and Jayson started whining to the refs.

But started settling in on defense again and attacking the rim and cut it back to 10 with FT's.

So looking good for the win?

They made a lot of tough shots the first half, and those aren't going to fall all night. I think fatigue was a factor as well. You see this happen in the league a lot when teams play aback to backs or 4 in 5. They start the first half fine and then collapse in the 2nd half.

This was kind of predicted by everyone. Celtics off a tough series vs. a rested Miami team and minus 2 starters.

We missed Marcus Smart a ton tonight. Jimmy doesn't get to 30 with a healthy Marcus on the floor.
Feels like this game should have an asterisk with Smart and Horford out. But you also gotta give some credit to the Heat's undrafted trio of Strus, Vincent, and Martin who've been big late in the year and the playoffs.

Miami clamped down in the third. Not sure I’ve ever seen so many strips from waist high. Vincent w 2 of them, Struss w 2, Boston got lazy on their entry passes and Miami played the passing lanes aggressively.  They also basically decided to make Tatum work faster.

1-0

ps. Those saying smart would lock jimmy up haven’t really seen jimmy since he came to Miami. How many elite defenders has he faced since joining the heat and how many have slowed him down?

Sure, but that's kinda boring. Give me a narrative to sink my teeth into.

I think I found my narrative, and it's rooting for Butler to get his ring. Haven't watched much of the Heat this season and I totally forgot just how much charisma he has. I'm a Spo fan, too.

But my favorite thing about Heat-Celtics is just how much the fans in the lower bowl in the arena embrace our collective stereotypes of their hometowns. Absolutely glorious people-watching during free throws and other breaks in the action. The army of skinny white dudes in quarter zips tonight cannot possibly hope to compete.

Lol, that was great.   The 2 that stood out...

- Rapper Flo-Rida with the Jesus piece chain where the Jesus head was literally half the size of his torso

- The woman with the thigh high hot pink boots, black gloves up to her elbows and huge chandelier earrings.  She had absolutely no idea where she was or how the game of basketball works.

somebody watching the Mia crowd last nite tweeted a wish that they could click on individuals at games and get the full hunnitt on their lives...............that would be great TV

my takeaway on the game is that the Celts mighta got bumrushed with the full compliment of players. they'd come off playing a body game v the Bucks and were throwing it around (42 in the paint first half). Spo picked it up and told his boys at halftime to hands em up. all of a sudden Brown & Tatum are twitching like a presidential imitation of the physically disadvantaged.

On second thought I should probably reserve judgment on the off chance we get Bob Weir, E-40 and Sergio Romo sitting with each other courtside or something.

Last year, MIL swept MIA out of the playoffs in the 1st round. Butler averaged 14.5 points for the series.

Year before, BOS lost to MIA in 6 games in the ECF. Butler only averaged 19 points for the series.

So...while Jimmy had an incredible game last night, he most certainly can go through stretches of not very good offensive games/series.

Last year the heat was a tired team (as were the lakers) from going through the finals and the bubble.  They pretty much admit they had run out of gas by then.

The year before, Butler was expected to be more of a facilitator than a scorer.  With the change in the rest of the team, he is the scorer.  If Lowry was healthy then maybe a different jimmy would be out there.

I sometimes lay awake at night and wonder how the Portland Trail Blazers could have possibly screwed up the CJ trade any more than they did in reality, but I just can't get there.  It's a gosh damn nightmare.  I hope for Dame's sake they trade him to a good team and just move the team to Seattle afterwards.  I can't take anymore of this.

Great night for Holgrem last night.  Portland didn't move up to top 3 so he has no chance to drafted by the Blazers where he surely would have had multiple knee surguries.

It also means Portland will draft another guard.  Good thing, because I for one look forward to 4 guards and Nurc on the floor.  Should be exciting times.

Is it a nightmare if you can't fall asleep?

Finally some time to sit down on this.

Mavericks in 6. I'm tempted to go 5. I think GS wins game 1, and then the Mavs more or less dominate them. But down 3-1 and returning home, it's a bit of a last ride for the Steph-Klay-Draymond trio.

1. I think Klay is toast. He's basically if Danny Green was worse on defense but better shooting. Maybe he recovers more next year, but I think it's reasonable that he will never be the same again.

2. Nobody on Golden State can guard Luka at all. What makes anyone think Wiggins would do as well, or better, than Mikal Bridges? You want to tell me they were the #2 defense so they'll be fine...well #1 was Phoenix. Draymond leaving the rim is open season for the rest of Dallas, and/or for rim pressure on lobs.

3. Dallas has a lot of guys who can make Steph work hard for offense. Bullock forced him into awful efficiency in their matchups, DFS can guard him, Maxi is credible, Ntilikina is credible, etc.

4. GS's best counter to that is having Poole also in the game, which Dallas will absolutely annihilate on the other end. Anything with Poole/Curry/Klay is going to get smoked on defense.

5. Dallas's biggest weakness is bigs. Gobert feasted (and he's somewhat inept on offense) and so did Ayton early. That's not a problem here. GS and Dallas both want to play small, but the Mavs small is bigger, better shooting, and more experienced down the line (meaning after the Steph/Klay/Green trio)

We'll see what happens. I expect a game 1 that is not dissimilar from Boston Miami, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it goes another way.

I didn't realize that they only got the first round pick if it was 5-14 this year. What kind of idiots are running the show over there? No pushing the pick out if they didn't get it this year? What the hell

i look forward to this series because ive yet to really atomize what makes the Mavs what they are - my ol'man attention drifts in the 2nd game of doubleheaders - and able, with such deficient players, to enact their coach's vision. my guess is that the Dubs smoke the Scrubs game1, smoke em a little less game2, smoke em less til they end up smoked themselves, not unlike what happened with the Suns, except maybe even more dramatically cuz the Dubs dont think they can be dominated and theyre wrong.

if i were Kerr, i'd go to Kuminga and say, "you been trying to convince me youre a star", go out there and make life difficult for their Wonder Boy - your legend begins here but i wont hold it against you if it doesnt, unless you dont give it a proper try.

rooting for the Scrubs, but expect an ez cover tonite.

I wouldn't go that far. Most of the open threes are off drives and kicks or offensive rebounds. No one in the league has a defense for those things.
Meh, disagree. Closeouts aren't coming close. Help defense collapsing to hard. Many teams defend that better. Like Dallas just did twice.
