*** 2021/22 Stanley Cup NHL Thread **** Congrats 2022 Avs Cup Champs! (2 Viewers)

Rangers now have Trouba, Fox, Lindgren, Nemeth, Tinordi, Hajek, K. Miller, Z. Jones, N.Lundqvist, and Bitetto under contract.  (Not to mention Schneider, Robertson and Reunanon who they rate highly)   Well, I guess HAjek is an RFA.

Wonder wtf Drury wants to do here, maybe play 2 forwards and 3 Dmen a time to solidify defensive gaps?

love the Goligoski signing

bummed couldn’t keep Cole since he ended up on a one year deal anyway

now sign the RFAs
Did you see the piece where they have a handshake deal to extend him another year for just $2M after Jan. 1? Pretty shrewd move if true.

Lanche needed a goalie and they had to pay up

Sakic misplayed the goaltender situation and we overpaid.  Still have gaping hole at #6 forward (not a fan of Compher) and little money left.  Not happy with this offseason.

got Landeskog done.  great deal on Makar.  and imo they look better in net, especially considering the deal Grubauer signed...gross.  plus lots of cap room left for Mac.

I thought Sakic did great

Tampa got Bogosian to sign below $1 mil...for three years?  now that feels like cap circumvention.  or a bad agent.  not sure.
people just can’t get enough of this humidity

for real though I laughed when I saw the deal. Somebody said he could have got 1.5 elsewhere.

Seattle rooster doesn’t look terrible and they still have to make some moves obviously with all those d men.  and maybe that’s where they clean up on some picks though it’s getting late in the game now.  but everything so far has seemed like a giant wasted opportunity.  weak

Agree, not sure if it was just Francis being overly conservative, teams being smarter about the rules of the expansion draft, or Francis asking for way too much pre-expansion draft, but I agree seems like there was likely a lot left on the table that they didn't maximize.

I think we can rule out teams being smarter. Seems like if the rumors are true he was asking for way way way too much.

Teams just told him no thanks and turned to Arizona to dump their crap there.

Yeah, I think he overestimated having lots of cap space.  There were enough other teams with enough cap space so those in salary cap issues weren't just locked into Seattle.

True, he could have, but he has a better chance at winning in Tampa. I heard on the Steve Dangle podcast that he picked Tampa over Toronto(where he spent last season) because, and this is his quote, “They just get it.”

i don't get what francis did on the goalers.  he put a total goaler cap hit on the books of 9.4mm for the next 3 years.  his backup makes 3.5mm the next 3 years?  am i reading that wrong?

I think he's thinking he'll be able to flip one, it seems like his whole approach is about trying to catch teams desperate situations and trying to capitalize, but teams are finding other solutions.

well, he obviously wants to flip driedger, otherwise, why sign grubauer?  i mean, this is an expansion team and i understand VGK competed fast, but when will that grubauer deal be worth it?  he could've lived with driedger and vanicek at a lower number and found a grubauer at a later date.  grubauer seems fine, but he's gonna be 30 and has never played more than 39 games?  also, with all these goalers moving, i can't believe drury hasn't found a home for georgiev.  i'd like to have his 2mm off the cap.

Well, he could have selected a player from Washington that was traded yesterday for 2 2nds. Instead he took a goalie which he traded back to Washington for 1 2nd. The results speak for themselves.

The whole not making any side deals just baffles me. I guess not everything is getting reported but it seems like Francis pulled demands out of thin air without any assessment of actual value and then was unwilling to negotiate. And then instead of taking a player with some value sometimes just drafted junk because… I don’t know.

What’s weird is how screwed I feel like the Blues got on this whole draft losing Dunn and then having Seattle throw all their cap space at Schwartz. We actually escaped Vegas pretty clean, but we got bent over this time.

from a distance, it looks like schwartz has peaked and is on the decline.  5x5.5 seems a gross overpay but francis.

I wouldn’t be surprised if I end being glad we didn’t make that deal. I actually already am. That said, I wish they would have signed him during the negotiation period so we could keep Dunn.

I’m starting to wonder if Drury thinks that the Rangers play The Capitals more than 5 times this year. Holy cow what an overreaction to one player. Doesn’t mean the moves won’t work but sheesh……
