Looked to me like he kicked it.  He tried to get his stick on it but whiffed and the only thing he had left was his foot. He kicked it.

It was normal follow through of his left skate on a cross-over turning to the left to avoid slamming into the post.

I have to watch that clip every couple of years to remember Gretzky was playing for the Blues (and fumbled the puck right before Stevie Y's bomb).
Fortunately for you it is played at least every couple years. In a commercial or a montage intro for the playoffs. I always get to see it! Love it!

On the Sportsnet/CBC broadcast Kevin Bieksa said Coleman did a great job of making it look like he accidentally kicked the puck in the net. Accidentally on purpose.
Probably a bit of Karma that they disallowed Coleman’s goal, because throughout the series he spent almost as much time in the Oilers crease as Mike Smith.
Earlier in the game, Coleman gave Smith a crosscheck in the back while both were in the blue paint. No call from the Refs.

Bieksa’s take:

Before I state my opinion, I don’t care who wins this game. I’m not cheering for either team… I think this is a kick. I think it was the right call to disallow the goal. While it looks like he’s directing the puck in the net, it’s a little bit grey. What is a kick? Everyone thinks a kick is when you kick the puck. What he’s doing right here is he’s trying to kick the puck in the net and hide it… He’s gliding on his flats trying to kick the puck into net… Why is his one leg extending? I’m thinking about the Mens Rea, I’m thinking about the guilty mind right now… He did a great job of hiding his intent because we’re all on different sides but I think his intent was to kick it in and hide it.”

The Avs controlled play for much of that 1st period, but the Blues lead 1-0 thanks to a late goal by Faulk. Husso looks good tonight. Blues need to pick it up, as the Avs are too good to hold off the scoreboard if they keep coming like that.

The Blues earned their fate.  Sports really baffle me sometimes, as I just don't get how a team can come out and lack such fire and energy for most of a home game with your season on the line.  Avs were the better team tonight by a lot.

Avs vs Oilers should be fun.  Avs might score 10 goals in one of those games.

Blues made that more of a series than I thought they would. Pretty successful season… I was entertained for most of the winter. This is looking like Avs and Ning in the finals. That would be a good one.

East Coaster who for once is mad there was no overtime since I'm about to put some Boston butts on the smoker for tomorrow's Champions League Final

I was figuring it was going seven. Blues  had all the momentum going in, but the Avs had some unlikely heroes tonight.

Next round is going to be insane.

If the Bolts make the final I want the Avs.
Be careful what you wish for. I would give the Lightning the edge due to Vasilevskiy being way better (IMO) than Kuemper, the latter of whom didn't overly impress me in this last series vs the Blues, but when the Avs get cranking on offense, it is like a tidal wave.  If that is the finals, and I think it will be, it should be a great series.

You said the rule is dumb.  So if you allow any kicking, some goalie is going to get a skate in the face.
Why not allow goals that pose no risk to player safety? Skate touches the ice, good goal regardless of any kicking motion. Which can look just like a normal hockey stop in some cases.

Can’t wait for the reviews to try and determine if a skate blade is barely touching the ice or not. There’s no easy fix to this one unless you just allow kicking and move on which will be great until a goalie gets injured.

I see a lot of Blues fans laying this on emotion. Should have just been “fired up”. The reality is that they are a poor team against a good forecheck. Colorado doesn’t need any help generating offense but when you add in that we are so bad at exiting our zone it’s a recipe for disaster. We missed Binningtons stick handling which helped neutralize it a bit but Colorado and Vegas have been killing us the past two years because they are fast and relentless and our defense melts against it. Parayko is really disappointing to me in this department especially. He was awful last night.

Good points.

Parayko was definitely awful last night, and while he has a lot of good moments, he commits way too many blunders and turnovers.  Feels like he has reached a point where his peaks are not great and consistent enough to endure his dips, but they just gave him that big contract, so that is a hindrance if they did consider moving him.

I look at it like the Bolts are playing with house money at this point so I think the most emphatic way to stamp that dynasty status would be to beat what is perceived as the best team in the league. Of course, I’ll be happy with whatever. Seeing McDavid in the final would also be amazing.

From an even more selfish standpoint we are out of town for games 1 and 2 of the final so I’d miss going to those if Tampa and Edmonton make it.

Tampa has the ability to play any team’s game and be better at it, and they have that same ability to score in waves. It would be a great series, so we’ll see what happens.

If the Lightning win it again, their dynasty status is set, regardless if it happens over Colorado over Edmonton, but I agree that it happening against the Avs would give this title a bit more sparkle.

Yep, yep, about the Lightning's offense. The edge in goal is why I'd give them the edge, but the team still trying to get to the top of the mountain can sometimes have that little extra something that the team that has already been there doesn't.

I felt this was Toronto in round 1. They definitely had more spurt in them for first 5.5 games but once Tampa won that game 6, then game 7 seemed like a formality. And now they haven’t looked back.

I'm convinced Dundon is pumping carbon monoxide or some type of sedative gas into the visiting locker room in Carolina.  Crazy that they have won all their home games but can't win one on the road, and they are down early at NY in Game 6.

League should investigate.

You would think Tampa would be licking their chops to play either of these teams Wednesday on less than 48 hours' rest. But on the flip side, the Lightning won't even know until about 11:00 Monday night where they will be traveling for that game.

I’m sure they’ve scouted both out. Somebody said no matter who it is they’ll travel Tuesday morning.  This series will definitely be a rest vs rust trial.

I think Gallant has to sit the Mika line until Rod the Bod throws the Stall line out first. Can’t keep doing the same ole thing and expect any differences.

They went thru this the last time around and that's how they landed on "distinct kicking motion" being the qualifier.

I think you can definitely make the case that the puck was kicked in. But that's different than it meeting that same language which is why I was surprised it was disallowed.

I think you guys get the win tomorrow.  I think it will come down to goaltending.  I know the Canes can't beat Tampa.  They are a little bit better everywhere and a lot in goal and PP.  I think Tampa is a lock for the finals but the Rangers would put up a better fight than the Canes IMO.  Canes would lose game one at home and series over.

Yea don’t want to crap on the Canes but I think the Bolts have them outflanked everywhere and would win in 5. Confident they’d beat the Rangers, but that goalie could steal some games.

I just repaid a few of the tickets chode @Chemical X got me.

He has 2 tickets to game 7 in the same section we always go and only one row difference.

And the biggest perk.  He doesn't have to go with me.  Chodes will win.
