*** 2021/22 Stanley Cup NHL Thread **** Congrats 2022 Avs Cup Champs! (1 Viewer)

Holy f*** .

Montreal just selected mailloux.

Wtf ?
@ArponBasu: Logan Mailloux: The NHL Draft should be one of the most exciting landmark moments of a player’s career, and given the circumstances I don’t feel I have demonstrated strong enough maturity or character to earn that privilege in the 2021 Draft.

Montreal Canadiens: Welcome aboard.

maybe, also from the athletic:

his success with Jake McCabe as a partner is legitimately interesting. Despite struggling with Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Jeff Skinner and essentially every defenseman that Buffalo has thrown his way over eight seasons, he actually worked quite well with the unheralded McCabe over the past three seasons, even by the numbers. In fact, in over 1,100 minutes at five-on-five together since 2018-19, the duo put up a solid 51.26 percent expected goals for rate. McCabe is far from Sanheim stylistically, but the successful partnership of McCabe-Ristolainen provides hope that if the Flyers do find the right partner for him, Ristolainen could thrive.
All I can say is good luck. I like Risto a lot and had very high hopes for him. Maybe they can figure out how to help him in ways the dumb Sabres never could. Certainly possible. Good PP guy at least.

Devon Levi and a 2022 1st is the rumor. Very underwhelming. Panthers going to be really good.
Panthers could be interesting because they have several players coming up on last year of deal. Barkov, Vatrano, and Acciardi are all UFA this time next year. Barkov probably is going to be looking for a raise from 5.9 Mil.

Quite the day for the GMs yesterday.

The kid withdrew himself from the draft.  How can they select someone who wasn't part of it? Did the league not 'recognize' his withdrawal?  if so, incredibly dumb move by both the Habs and the NHL.

Correct. You can not remove yourself from the draft

Guess that makes sense.  Can't have a player expected to go first overall not want to play for the team that has the #1 pick and withdraw from that year and take their chances with who would have it the following year.

wut? better be some salary heading back

@FriedgeHNIC: Hearing there is some traction on Cam Atkinson to PHI.

Jake going back to CBJ? Maybe it's a 3 way trade and Columbus retains?

@FriedgeHNIC: Im not sure what else is involved here -- if anything -- but there's a Cam Atkinson-Jakub Voracek deal being worked on between Columbus and Philadelphoa

@charlieo_conn: Atkinson and Voracek are both 1989 birthdays (Atkinson a little older but only by a few months). Atkinson is the better two-way player at this point; Voracek the better scorer. Atkinson's cap hit is $5.875 million, so would be a $2.375 million savings if it's straight up.

Levi better be really good. Pretty terrible return for Reinhart.

oh well. Hockey is still dumb.

I have a feeling he overplayed his Eichel hand. He better hope that he is healthy because if he doesn’t start the season the return will only get lower IMO around the trade deadline (depending on if he is playing. And if you are Eichel, would you)

Huh? Much rather hold than take another terrible return. There’s no rush here.

What is the return going to be if he says he is never putting a Sabres sweater on again and no one gets to see how he plays after what sounds like a pretty serious injury.

Wonder how much the pandemic and limited North American scouting had on this draft. Flyers through four rounds have exactly zero North American players. trade, Finnish forward, Belarus goalie, Swiss defenseman.

Fletcher probably thought they were ineligible

Lol. They save $50 million then.

panic trading is how they gave away ROR for nothing. Make him come back and prove he’s healthy if he wants out. Worked well for Sakic on the Duchene trade.

Many Believe Jaden Schwartz is Kraken Bound

There is an overwhelming feeling out there that the Jaden Schwartz and the Kraken were very close to getting a deal done, but the Kraken also wanted to get d-man Dunn from St Louis and there are no rules stating you had to sign a UFA before you picked a player off the list. Schwartz appears very likely to sign in Seattle Wednesday.

Tampa picks another undersized guy in a middle round. He probably won’t be Brayden Point 2.0, but it would be hilarious if he was in a few years.

Schneider and Lundqvist not available either though.
They shouldnt be. And if that is the sticking point that is a bad job by Drury. But all chatter I’ve heard had an offer of Buch, Chytl, Kravstov, (Schneider or Lundqvist) plus a first. Adam’s was demanding one of Laffy or Kakko. Drury walked away.

What's with the Sabres withholding Eichel's medical records? How can any offer be serious, in either direction, without that?

I'll be gutted to see him leave the Blues, but it happens. It's a business.

Friedman podcast said Rangers didn’t want to give up those guys. Seems dumb.

Anton Stralman has agreed to waive his NTC to facilitate a trade to Arizona. Believe Florida and Arizona finalizing a trade now. Trade call still pending. Stralman, 34, has one year left on his deal at $5.4 million AAV
