*** 2021/22 Stanley Cup NHL Thread **** Congrats 2022 Avs Cup Champs! (1 Viewer)

The Leafs were the second-best team they’ll face these playoffs if they get Colorado and maybe Calgary. Florida is a major step down, the regular-season doesn’t matter.
Tampa, of all teams, knows that lesson well. It was that sweep by Columbus that set them on this trajectory, after all.

As overmatched as the Blues looked in G1, last night showed that this will be a fight to the finish.  It won't be the cakewalk the Avs and their fans expect.

I am afraid it might be.  As great as the Blues have been the last two months, the Avs speed looks to be too much for them.  They shouldn't look that overmatched, but it is hard to imagine them turning it around enough to win four of the next six, unless the Avs fall on their faces.  I was pretty optimistic before last night, but seeing that was like cold water in the face.

Blues are toast.  wait.  Avs lucky to win a game.

It's far from over but I thought Florida was going to be the tougher of the two.  It has nothing to do with regular season records, I just felt Fla was the better team.   I think a combination of how much TOR picked up their game for the playoffs and how Fla looks like they are still playing in Feb is the difference at this point.

What’s going on in Tampa this weekend that they have to play back-to-back Sunday/Monday?

Also, I will be in Tampa (group of 10 guys) from June 23-26. Will be interesting if the Lightning still are playing then. Not trying to be a jinx, but if so, I’ll be checking in with the longtime, diehard TB backers for the best places to go.

Kane Brown Saturday night.  Nothing on Tuesday,

@frank_seravalli: Hearing #LetsGoPens and Bryan Rust have agreed to terms on a 6-year extension worth in the neighborhood of $5.2 million per year. Not signed yet.

First to report deal was close: @DarrenDreger.

Physical game so far.  Binnington is run over by Kadri and knocked out of the game, no penalty.

Kadri and Rosen both playing the loose puck in the crease and both hit him (and Rosen was first). I know everyone wants Kadri's head on the platter for his past, but that was a hockey play just as much as Barbashev's hit on Girard.

Ville Husso doing his best Ryan Miller and imploding in the playoffs.  What is crazy is a few weeks ago, Husso was the man and Binnington was the backup, and now the Blues look like a long shot to win this series if Binnington is not back the next game.  Husso looked awful.

@Peter_Baugh

I've talked to two people who confirmed it was indeed Jordan Binnington who threw the water bottle at Nazem Kadri.

Good. Kadri has a rep for being a POS and deserves anything thrown at him (but not by fans from the stands obviously).

Are you saying he doesn't have a rep for being a dirty player?  Or is it our imagination that he has been suspended in three of the last four playoff seasons (prior to this year's) for a dirty hit?  If that doesn't make someone a dirty player and a POS, I don't know what does.

I’m saying that Kadri having a rep for being a dirty player in the past doesn’t mean that it was a dirty play tonight.

The fact that Blues fans and Craig Berube are the only people in the entire hockey world saying otherwise should be the first clue that you might not be particularly unbiased in this one.

I never said it was a dirty play. I said Kadri is a dirty player, which he most certainly is.

@NHLdotcom: Samuel Girard will miss the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Avalanche with a broken sternum.

The defenseman was injured in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round when he was checked hard behind his net by Blues forward Ivan Barbashev.

Good hit, bad result for Girard. I am honestly surprised more guys don't get hurt on checks like that. It's such a physical sport.

dangerous check made worse by skater losing his balance. Looks like his skate stuck. Wonder what the ice conditions are like after the concert for a day game on a warm humid afternoon.

Go Bolts

Ice looks ok from here. I thought it’d be skipping a bit more. That Hagel hit should’ve been an ejection.

I know it’s easier said than done from my couch a thousand miles away, but that Huberdeau chance is a classic example of a shooter trying to load up a wrist shot rather than just one-timing it. See it a lot … gives the D just enough time to get back in the play.

This has so far been unexpected, Florida should be better than how they’re doing. I’m not upset at that, mind you, but it’s odd.

"They have more will and more desire than we do." - Andrew Brunette on the @TBLightning

absolutely embarrassing quote.

Read that Kadri is receiving threats, some racial in nature, ahead of Game 3 in St. Louis.  Get yourselves a grip, Blues fans.

What Smith did was a bit odd. He originally handles the puck in front of the goal line, then carries it back into the trapezoid, where Lucic hit him. I do think Lucic let up a bit and part of the problem is Smith tried to spin and was knocked off balance.

I think this is the problem I have with the notion of “protect the goalie at all costs.” We’ve seen how good Smith and some other goalies are at handling the puck. As a forechecker, what recourse do you have to make a play there?
