2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (2 Viewers)

Did Thad really regress that badly? He was *arguably* our best QB last year.

Jeezus. Now he's gone and we're relying on Tuel and Jordan Palmer to back up a shaky EJ?

I give up. :bag:

Not that Thad was great mind you, but is Tuel or Palmer any better?

Lewis was awful all camp and preseason.

Palmer has two big upsides:

1) He guns his own QB academy, and by all reports, is great at helping develop QBs. Bortles used him pre-draft. EJ actually attended his camp 3 years ago. Having another guy like that around to help EJ is a big plus.

2) The Bills play the Bears Week 1. Any intel you can get is a good thing.

Palmer has been around the league for a long time. He may not be great, but I think he would at least be a knowledgable veteran presence behind center if they needed it.

What interests me way more is that there was a heated conversation this morning at practice between Marrone, Brandon and Whaley. Marrone was apparently yelling at Whaley and cursing quite a bit. No idea what it was in relation to, but it's obviously a big deal of some sort. I would love to know what it was about.

Was it about getting rid of Lewis and how it was done? Was it about the Bills being kind of crappy and putting Kiko on the non-football injury list instead of I.R.?

About time the Bills hired a QB coach.

Also, in re the Alonso designation, I don't necessarily think the move was unfair if the injury actually occurred outside of legitimate training. We never got the story of what happened there, right?

Didn't know this. Now it makes sense. Hey, anything to kick EJ's head into gear...

What's the difference? A roster spot, or does it screw Alonso out of money and compensation? If the later, then good for Marrone if he stood up for his player. That kind of thing can bring a team together.

Alonso no longer accrues a year of service. So this year does not count towards gaining free agency for Alonso unless he starts practicing by Week 11.

Knowing Marrone's temperament, this could have been over something major or over something incredibly minor.

Jay Skurski (Buffalo News writer) made me laugh on Twitter last night.

"Doug Marrone says the #Bills showed "absolutely nothing" in preseason. He meant vanilla play calling, but it's not how I interpreted it."

The first two points make some sense, although I'm sure he isn't putting the fact that he's already worked with Manuel at the top of his resume.

The last sentence is extremely wishful thinking- if Jordan Palmer is playing QB in an NFL game, you might as well forfeit.

I seriously hope $$ wasn't the primary reason they signed Palmer instead of waiting for final cuts for the rest of the league or at least trying to pry the likes of Mallett or Sanchez from another team. Having Palmer come in as a pseudo coach/mentor for Manuel is one thing but to have this guy take up a roster spot is just completely nuts.

Sad, but funny.

Trust me folks, the #Bills are just sand-bagging. The last 14 seasons have just been an effort to hustle the rest of the #NFL. *cough*

Justin Dunk@JDunk12 Aug 25
En route to Buffalo boarder guard asks why I'm going to US. I say '#Bills practice'. He says 'Are you trying out for the team?' #StillGotIt

Buffalo Rumblings@BuffRumblings 12h

Jordan Palmer being thrown to the Lions after two days with #Bills. By that I mean he's literally throwing it to the Lions.

Anthony Rizzo@ARRizzo 35m
I really hope EJ goes all "Inigo Montoya" with #Bills fans and states: "I am not right-handed" and switches the ball to his left hand.

That last one is really funny

I can't believe I went to that garbage last night. NFL really needs to cut the preseason two games and give us two more regular season games or something.

I hope you at least took advantage of the Groupon discount? I couldn't imagine paying full price to see the final preseason game.
Season ticket holders pay full price. This is the third straight year they signed a QB days prior to this game and then I get to watch them get destroyed (T. Jackson, Matt Leinart, J. Palmer)

One of the reasons I gave mine up a few years ago. Considering getting back in next year (though I'm not sure why, at this point).

I mean it's still dirt cheap to be a season ticket holder and our tailgate is pretty popular and fun. Just that yearly, Thursday game vs Detroit where nobody plays is tough to swallow. I'm thinking next year I might not even go into my seats and just wander around.

I was actually at the Leinart preseason Detroit game last year. Got free tickets from my bosses at work cause no one wanted to go. Preseason is such a blatant moneygrab.

I went to a Steelers-Bills preseason game a couple years back. Same deal as you - a friend's boss gave him 4 tickets.

Meh - free tickets and a good excuse to get loud, get drunk, and flirt with hot girls in the stands. I'll take it.

For sure....as long as I'm not paying....

I wouldn't mind if they'd sign Sam. Sam would be great to rotate in when Mario or Hughes needs a breather. Mario, Hughes and Sam would make for a fresh trio of pass rushing ends.

I don't think I've ever been this down before the start of a season. I can only be pleasantly surprised at this point.

Why? Lawson is the 3rd DE to rotate in because he's such an excellent run defender and coverage guy. Smith showed at least as much as Sam and plays special teams too. And Buffalo's 5th DE, Wynn, is very stout against the run with a bit of push.

Captains announced.

EJ Manuel, been with the team for a year, NOT a captain.

Brandon Spikes, been with the team for thirty seconds, CAPTAIN.
Manuel has played 10 games in the NFL. Spikes is a seasoned vet with lots of playoff experience and a ton of energy.

I get that the QB is the most important position on the field, but it would have seemed weirder to make Manuel a captain than not IMO.

Grove you have been dead on with your last few posts couldn't agree more.

Sammy practice today not sure how much as Marrone won't give much like usual

Corey Graham also named captian and just signed this year. At least he is a Buffalo native.
Dude's so old his high school closed like 11 years ago.

I couldn't agree more. What a bummer this preseason has been... But, like you said, it might be nice to go into a season with expectations of border-line disaster, instead of that annoying 'hope'.
