2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (3 Viewers)

The Jags sold out 69K tickets for this game within an hour of them going on sale. This was prior to the Bills even making the playoffs. There are a lot of Bills fans here though.

I’m a Dolphins fan. I want anyone from the AFC other than NE or Pittsburgh in the SB and I think the Jaguars have the best chance to be that team. All that said, I love this Buffalo story and want to see what would happen if they win, so I’m rooting for the Bills today. ?

Awesome to make the playoffs, but the issue with the team is readily apparent. I think we have to think about qb in the first if one of the five fall. I don't think Cousins is the right fit, but a second tier fa qb could be good as well.

Still proud of this team for getting in, even if today was a bit ugly.

Well, the bright side from today is that the Tyrod Taylor era should be over...  :kicksrock:
Agreed with both. Bills need to package some picks and move up for a QB. That game was the perfect example of how Taylor ultimately limits the Bills and why they need to move on.

That game was also just more evidence that Buffalo needs to move on from Rick Dennison. The playcalling really hurt the Bills today, especially in crucial situations. That has been a theme all year.

Great to break the playoff drought though. And I really like McDermott overall and how the players buy in with him. He clearly values every player on the roster and coaches each one up.

Question for the Bills fans.

Would you be willing to see the Bills give up a 2nd or 3rd for Alex Smith?  He seems like he would be a good fit for this offense and could hold down the QB spot for a couple of years while his replacement was developed.

Absolutely, assuming they could extend him for a few years without paying through the nose.

Agreed on all counts.  It's too bad we couldn't get the win today against another over-achieving team, but I'm extremely happy with the season overall and still tickled over last week.  McDermott squeezed at least 3-4 more wins out of this team than its talent level would suggest. I'm optimistic about our future under this regime.  If there is a QB in this draft that our FO likes, I would be fine with giving up whatever we have to give up to get that guy.  I've always Taylor and I stand by the assessment that he's our best QB since Doug Flutie, but he's taken us about as far as he can realistically take us.  I'd love to keep him around as a backup, but that obviously won't happen and I wish the guy well in his next landing spot.

Dennison was just brutal today.  I'm not sure that his play-calling cost us the game, but it certainly plays out differently if we get the TD when we had first and goal from the 1 and don't give up the stupid FG at the end of the first half.

Regardless, this season was about a thousand times better than what I expected.

Also, I would like to know which member of the Bills team or coaching staff slept with Al Riveron's wife.  I have never seen so many borderline or flat-out wrong calls go the same direction, from the same guy.

FWIW, McCoy confirmed after the game that the playcall from the 1 was a run pass option originally called to be a run. Tyrod is the one that decided to pass.

And all things considered, I think Bledsoe was better than Tyrod. And 50/50 on Fitz for me as well. Fitzpatrick would do some really dumb things and lose games, but down 14 I felt like you could still win a game with Fitz, something that Tyrod has no shot at.

Legit point.  Did anybody really have any hope that we would pull out a win, down 7 entering the fourth quarter?  I sure didn't.  That situation shouldn't feel so hopeless.

You think Bledsoe was better? Easily. Fitz was better, too.

I'd like to see them bring in Bradford assuming the Vikes cut him loose and one of Jackson, Rudolph or Mayfield if he slips.

Hmmm ....

YANNICK NGAKOUE @YannGetSacks91

Great win to day! And 64, you goin have to come harder than some weak racist slurs. I’m proud of my African heritage, as are 70% of the other Black players in this league. #Iaintjonathanmartin!

Nice season for the Bills. Was happy for them! That fan base deserved to get in, next they need a win

Tyrod Taylor has a $10 million base salary with $1 million guaranteed, and a $6 million roster bonus.
I think the Bills take the cap hit. It's $8.6 million in dead money but $9.4 million in cap savings.

Hell no. He's the same exact QB that Tyrod is.

This is an area that I disagree with most Bills fans on. I would prefer they get a QB in FA rather than sign a rookie. First off, our team made the playoffs. We obviously have some needs to fill but we have some cap space and picks to upgrade a lot of positions. Packaging picks to get a QB would limit that. And while it's absolutely certain we need a QB change, I don't like the idea of starting a rookie QB. There are bound to be some significant  growing pains and there is no guarantee the guy is going to work out. Look at every QB we've drafted since Jim Kelly. I'd rather go with the sure thing (Kirk Cousins) than move multiple picks to draft a guy that isn't guaranteed to pan out. It's not as though the bust rate for QBs is good for 1st round QBs. It's still a coin flip. I suppose if we took one at 21 and didn't move up I would be okay with that. I'm not against drafting one at all, but to trade up to trade a QB just doesn't make sense. We have a TON of positions we need to upgrade (QB, RB, WR, RG, RT, LE, DL, LB).

Don't take this the wrong way, but are you still drunk perhaps?
Never drank yesterday. Alex Smith's knock his entire career is that he's a "game manager". He throws short passes and doesn't throw guys open. That's the same exact QB that Tyrod is. This year Alex has been willing to throw the deep ball more often than he ever has in his career. But it's 1 time in the 12 seasons he's been on the field (he's been in the league 13 years) that he actually did so. He's going to be 34-years-old next year, switching teams and going to a new scheme. I wouldn't count on this being the new Alex Smith moving forward. It's not like I'm clueless as to what Alex Smith is. My father is a Chiefs fan and have seen him play numerous games over the years. He was actually my fantasy QB this year so I watched him in several games this year. He had a good season this year and set career highs in a lot of statistical categories. That should be a warning sign. How often do we see guys top their career best numbers the very next year? Let alone at this stage of their career.

Good points Tommy. I also feel like moving up is also a bad idea if it means getting into the top 10.

It is a lot to give up for a lottery ticket. I would rather take a guy in the 1st and 2nd  than trade more value than that and end up with only one guy.

Part of my opinion is based on uneasiness  about coaches ability to evaluate QBs.

I'm not saying Alex Smith is Peyton Manning in his prime or that they should give up the farm for him, I'm only disagreeing with your comment that he and Tyrod are the "same exact QB". They may have similar "styles", but Smith>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tyrod. He wouldn't be my first choice if I had a magic wand and could pick anyone, but he would be a welcomed upgrade for sure.

I'm glad we can stop hearing about "the streak", but hopefully they don't let the fact that they made the playoffs change their approach. This team has plenty of issues, but they need to spend the vast majority of their efforts identifying and acquiring a franchise QB. They should have been doing that for the last several years, but there is absolutely no excuse to not do so this off season- it's clear as day that Tyrod simply isn't good enough, they finally appear to have some stability in the front office, there should be several options available not only in the draft but via trade and free agency, and they have plenty of ammo. Have to make it happen.

I don't think there's any question that they will be looking for a new QB. I actually hope they just cut Peterman too. He quite clearly does not have what it takes to be an NFL QB. The questionable decision making is bad enough, but his arm strength really is too weak to ever make those NFL outs and deep passes.

And I really do hope that they fairly evaluate Rick Dennison. I would prefer that he not be the OC next year both because I think that his inability to tailor an offense to his players' strengths is inexcusable and because I don't trust him at all to develop a QB

Ngakowe didn't accuse Icognito of using racial slurs during yesterday's game, at least not in the tweet that everybody is referencing.  I read it as more of a weak reference to the Jonathan Martin episode, which is the once specific thing that Ngakowe mentioned.

I'm in the camp of those that are worried about trading up for a QB.  Several of the teams at the top of the draft are QB needy and I think it's going to take a huge package to trade up.  If you miss on that pick, you're setting your franchise back several years.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad move signing a Cousins/Bradford/Smith/Eli type guy.  The FA pool for QBs looks a little better than in previous years.  I also saw some rumor that Dalton might be let go from the Bengals.  I know Dalton isn't a great overall QB, but just based on recent events it would be fun to have him onboard.  I wouldn't hate on the move.

Go ahead and laugh at me all you ant, but I disagree on Peterman.  I know I know I know 99.9% think he's a complete failure, but I like him.  I don't think he has a weak arm.  I actually like the way he throws the ball, he just needs to throw it to the right color jersey.  He's a rookie, and was thrown into it when he wasn't ready. No, I don't think he's going to be the starter next season, but I think he has potential to develop.

I totally agree. I hope he's back next year. Way too soon to write him off.

One or more will fall into the 20'ies. One always does (and it looks like just about everyone are declaring). Question is - will he be the next Dak/Rodgers/Watson or the next Manziel/Weeden?

The way this administration has been building the team, I see another EJ Manuel situation taking place. That is, a reach/head-scratcher QB taken that Beane/McDermott happen to fall in love with.

Come on, he absolutely has a weak arm. That game sealing INT was 100% because the throw wasn't strong enough and it took too long to get there. It was one of the biggest knocks on him and he has shown no ability at all to get the ball to WRs running routes to the sidelines.

I know it's a small sample size and he is a rookie, but the dude threw 6 INTs on just 53 pass attempts (that's more than Tyrod had all year on 405 less attempts). He completed less than 50% of his passes. His yards per attempt was a pathetic 5.1. His yards per completion was lower than Tyrod's too.

I had some hope that he would be better than he is, but he just isn't. He is a 5th round QB with fatal flaws. Even with ideal development, he probably tops out as a mediocre backup.

I'm intrigued by him. He's a young kid who wasn't a top prospect coming out of college. The difference between him and TT is that Peterman is willing to sling it. The knock on him is that he makes a decision so damn fast that he doesn't give himself time to make sure it's a good throw. I think it would be easier to teach a QB patience than it is to teach one aggressiveness. He may never pan out, but it would be foolish to cut the kid.
