2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (5 Viewers)

Based on what I've seen over the last month or so, the Bills are the frontrunner in the AFC. They are just firing on all cylinders right now and look like they are peaking at the right time. In all phases of the game.

That is a really, really good team. And if they make it to the Super Bowl over the Chiefs, I'll be rooting for them big-time.

Buffalo has waited a long time for this kind of team. You guys deserve this.
The Bills are playing the best football of any team in the AFC right now, but I still think the Chiefs are the favorite. The bye alone is a huge difference maker (figures the year the Bills could be the #2 seed is the year only one team gets a bye).

And the Chiefs/Mahomes have been there and done that. They’ve proven they have what it takes to win in the playoffs and they now know that even more. The Bills have not proven they have what it takes to win in the playoffs. The Patriots with Brady showed over and over again that having a really special QB that figures out how to win games when they matter is what makes all the difference in the playoffs. Mahomes has already prove he is that guy, Allen has not.

The Bills are legit contenders, but until the Chiefs lose, they deserve to be the favorite IMO.

As I said in a previous post, my dream scenario would be to beat the Chiefs in a great AFC Championship game and then demolish Brady and the Bucs in the Super Bowl. That would bring so much joy as a long suffering Bills fan and exercise a whole lot of demons.

never, ever seen such a turnaround by a QB in Allen.   His pin point precision on passes is incredible. Truly amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we are going to look back at this as the end for Bill B. I don’t see him successfully turning this around. Without winning his act will wear thin with players.
I'm not so sure.  One thing they said a few times on the broadcast is that Bill B never developed a QB.  Not true - he turned a sixth rounder into a HOF.  6 QB's got drafted before Brady that year?  There must have been some reason that he fell so far.

The Patriots will definitely be a force next season.  And with our being up against the cap, it's possible we regress a little too if we can't re-sign key players like Milano.  I'd still rank the Bills first in the AFC East next year, but it's going to be a dog fight.

So, 6,700 fans are being allowed for Buffalo’s Wild Card game. Pretty cool. Only season ticket holders who opted into buying tickets for the year  (if they had fans) are being offered tickets based on how long they’ve had season tickets. Have to go to the stadium to get a test 2-3 days before the game and must wear a mask inside. No tailgating allowed at all.

The one catch is that if you get tickets for the Wild Card game, you aren’t eligible for tickets to subsequent home playoff games if there are any. So if you had the option, would you buy the tickets to the first round since it’s a guarantee, or do you pass and hope that they win and host a game in the 2nd round? Would be super crazy if they win 2 and KC loses and the Bills end up hosting an AFC Championship game and suddenly all of the most senior ticket holders can’t be there to enjoy it.

Also, in other news, Beasley is being described as week to week with a knee injury. Was a DNP today. I guess it’s good that they didn’t put him on IR which would seem to indicate that it’s not an ACL tear or something of that nature. But with Stills reportedly being brought in, it sure seems as if Beasley may be missing at least the Wild Card game. Stills is a pretty good get of a decent veteran WR at this point, but there’s really no way to get him up to real speed in time IMO and Beasley has such a unique style and skill set that simply can’t be replaced. Would certainly be a fairly significant loss to the offense.

At the same time, the Bills have been pretty lucky with injuries this year. They have had some key guys miss chunks of time, but outside of losing a very average Cody Ford and now potentially Beasley, they have everyone healthy at the moment. Which, frankly, is why they should rest all of their key guys like Allen, Diggs, Dawkins, White, Milano, Hyde and Poyer. The potential to lose any of those guys is not worth the difference between the #2 and #3 seed IMO.

My outsider's opinion:

I'd go to the WC game. Symbolically, it'll be the biggest game they've played in a long, long time.

I too think they should rest players.  Think the coach will give us some hints on what he will do?  Cripes they lose Allen or Diggs things go in the dumpster.  Milano & White also.

I don’t think McDermott will be giving much away. We’ll probably have an idea when they announce practice squad call ups.

For Beasley, this seems like hopeful news.

”QB Josh Allen said today that Beasley was already getting antsy and would do everything in his power to be ready either this weekend or for their first playoff game.”

My guess -- and this really is just a guess based on my understanding of McDermott -- is that they'll go through practice this week just like normal, the regular starters will play about a quarter or so, and then most key guys get pulled.  There aren't enough roster spots to pull literally every starter, but I doubt that anybody of fantasy relevance plays much this week.

My rationale here is that McDermott is the sort of guy who places a lot of emphasis on having players maintain a regular routine.  He was never just going to give everybody this week off, which is why they're all practicing more or less like any other week (to the extent that anybody outside the organization is able to observe).  Another important sign pointing in this direction is that Allen needs 40 more passing yards to set the Bills single-season record.  I'm extremely confident that McDermott knows that and wants to get Allen the record.  Given all of that, it would make a ton of sense to treat this like an early preseason game.  Give the starters 2-3 series and call it a day.

So maybe an update to Beasley: McDermott this morning reportedly said that the only player he expects to be ruled out for Sunday is Gilliam. Pretty surprising if he means that Beasley could be healthy enough to play.

He also said that Beane has had his eye on Stills for a while and that it has nothing to do with Beasley.

So coachspeak and gamesmanship or legit?
I really think Stills is more a replacement for Kumerow.  He'll go on the practice squad almost certainly, not the active roster, especially this week.  Plus I think he has to sit for a while any way for Covid protocol since he hasn't been getting regular tests.

I am greatly worried that this is coachspeak for Beasley's injury being worse than what the team is letting on.  If they wanted Stills, they could have signed him weeks ago.  Signing a guy off the street -- who can't possibly play until the playoffs -- days after one of your key contributors limps off the field, that's a lot of smoke for what's supposed to not be a fire.

I'd love to be wrong about this of course.

Any of our season ticket holders able to get tickets?

I've heard that at the 12 noon and 12:30 time-slots, they had only 2-pods left, no 4-pods.  Apparently the ticket holders had the option for a 2-pod or to pass on it for a chance at a 4-pod in the later rounds of the playoffs, if the Bills make it.  A guy I know who had 1:30 PM timeslot (which are my old tickets from years ago) said he was totally boxed out, but I don't know if that means it's sold out or what.  My sister has a 3 PM timeslot, hasn't heard any word yet.

Of all the years to watch from the comfort of your home, I figured this would be the one.

Nope.

Not in Buffalo.

As far as football goes, Stills is a much better receiver than people give him credit for. I know some around here don't like PFF, but he graded out highly last year and consistently does. I liked what I saw from him in Houston when he was healthy last year. You'll be stretching the field all day with him and Brown potentially in the game together. Diggs or Beasley or Davis will just feast underneath all day, because you're going to have to rotate safety help towards him or Brown, whoever is in there.

My friend with whom I've had season tickets for for 26 years was able to get a 2-pod today (had a 10:30 time slot).  Coincidentally, we ended up with tickets (section 127, row 12) right near our original season ticket location (we switched seats after the first year).

Kroft tested positive for covid and will miss the next two weeks.  Wishing him the best -- this poor guy just couldn't catch a break on our team.  Not a big deal from a football standpoint since he's been a healthy inactive several times recently, but a good reminder that all of our players need to be extra vigilant.  I'm starting to get nervous every time I see the Josh Allen thread get bumped.
There’s reports on Twitter this morning that the Bills are going to play their starters, at least for a while. Not a fan at all.

If Allen got hurt today or he ends up getting Covid, about 2/3 of Buffalo would drive up to Niagara and jump off the falls. It’d be about the most Buffalo sports thing ever.

I had this team going 10-6.  I figured the offense would be improved, but I didn't expect this degree of improvement.  And now the defense is coming into form.  Who knows what happens from here, but this is definitely the best Bills team since the super bowl years and it isn't close.  This team is honestly closer to the 1990 and 1991 teams adjusting for the different eras.

I just really didn’t want Baltimore or Tennessee.  I think we’ll beat any team not named Chiefs, and I think we have a good chance against them anyways, but we struggled previously against Balt and Tenn.

Please Miami. Please! (Or Indy). Ten would suck, though the way the Bills are playing right now I don’t really fear any team.
Not gonna lie -- I am rooting for TEN to beat HOU.  We're a better team than the Titans and I wouldn't mind a revenge game, but they're the toughest WC opponent IMO.

A hail mary away from being 14-2....think about that one.  Hell of a year.  Hope they can keep it up and make some noise in the playoffs, put to bed some of the playoff ghosts.

Also, I am really liking the fact that Bills fans and Dolphins fans can hang out and give each other a hard time, and maybe even join in making fun of the Jets, without even having to mention that other irrelevant team in the division.

Now with Dallas eliminated (I know, they had no chance if they made the playoffs), I'm rooting for you guys. Plus, I'm a fellow Central Valley boy and I love JAllen's game.

Hopping in the wayback machine for a moment, the lowest I've ever been as a Bills fan was when we started 5-1 with Trent Edwards, crashed and burned, and went into the offseason with Jauron getting extended.  It seemed like this franchise was completely beyond help at that point.  Getting to 13-3 with solid ownership, a great GM and HC who seem to be on the same page, and an elite QB who's fun to watch is like a lucid dream.

Bills host the Colts at 1pm Saturday. Kinda BS that they get such a low profile time slot, but after their starters got a bunch of rest, it probably works in their favor to have an early game after the Colts had to play all out for the full game.

Hoping this is a signal that this game is not expected to be that competitive.
Vegas has the Bills as a 7 point favorite right now  :o

I disagree with that big of a spread, but I do think they’re clearly the favorite. They absolutely need to a) not turn the ball over and b) jump out to an early lead and make Taylor as much of a non-factor as possible. The sooner they can put the game on Rivers the better.

Also, Colts have to travel on a short week, which helps the Bills.  And if the Bills do win, they have an extra day before the second round.  So this is a pretty ideal scheduling spot for Buffalo.

Two small TV markets, makes sense.  I was just telling a friend, at least I'll know and it'll determine the rest of my weekend.  Do I want to get hyped for the two full days of football and the college title game on Monday night, or just zone out.  I'd rather know on Saturday afternoon than be jittery until Sunday night.

I figured there was some back door NFL, Cuomo, Bills, Network deal not to put the Bills for a night game or even 4:40pm with the first game with a portion of fans to see how it goes.

The only team to test to go to a football game.  I get tested tomorrow.  🤞

The head doctor at the company they are using pretty much said 500-600 will test positive and of that 10% of those will likely be false positives with nothing you can do.

Both Beasley and Diggs are listed as limited participants for today and are questionable. They both practiced in normal jerseys though and not no contact jerseys. Diggs said yesterday that he was definitely playing.

Sure seems like there’s a good chance that they’ll both be playing Saturday.

Diggs = First Team All-Pro

Allen, Beasley, White, Roberts = Second Team

Great to see some end-of-regular-season recognition coming this team's way.  Very nice.

:bs:  that Bojo isn’t All Pro.

So, weird thing is that there actually isn’t such a thing as 2nd team all pro. There’s All Pro and there’s the remaining guys that got votes.

Thinking about this game, if Allen can stay poised I think the Bills roll. This season could have been the best thing for Allen’s development. He needed to learn not to get too jacked up and act crazy. Having no/few fans in the stands is a great environment to help with that.
Keep calm and get it done Bills!

I don’t think Beasley is actually 100%. Kind of wish they’d just sit him, try to win without him, and get him 100% for next week. But with it being the playoffs, I understand how it’s hard to wait another week when there may not be a next week.
