2022 Little League World Series (1 Viewer)

Hawaii - 4the straight LLWS appearance

2018 - won title, same manager as this year
2019 - team from Central Maui finished 4th
2020 - COVID
2021 - Honolulu finished 3rd
2022

Obviously no returning players but great tradition. Lot of these teams (most if not all) have no experience with what it’s like in Williamsport. At least one of the players had an older brother play in the LLWS (saw interview with the parents.) That has to give them some edge, just knowing what to expect.

Could be a special game starting on ESPN. Taipei and Mexico. Winner to international championship.

Agreed - some LL are extremely well run and have multiple appearances. Toms River (New Jersey) is another former champion that always seems to be in the mix even if they don't get there every year.

Staten Island has a really well run LLs. I believe both Mid-Island (1964 champs) and a south Shore have won their region (East then Mid-Atlantic now Metro) 3 times. I think the other 4 boroughs only have two LLWS appearances.

Just driving by their fields you’d be impressed, so well maintained. Leagues need community support and funding to thrive.

We always had a very well run league and support we just dont have the numbers. I know LL now lets you expand your region but back in the day we only were a town of 5k so we could never compete

One thing I would like to see at the LLWS is that they should change where all international games are played at Volunteer stadium and all US games played at Lamade stadium. I think the change in the hitter's background for the championship would be an advantage for US squads.

South Shore is where my son played

I thought all the LLWS were local league only. No travel teams, no state wide all-star teams. It’s all star teams of local leagues.

Players can play travel ball + LL, but AFAIK they’ve stayed true to the local league only rule.
This isn't exactly true. Many of these teams are travel teams that play the minimum in their local LL so they can qualify for the all star tournament. There are ways to game the system but in general the players must be from the same area in order to be eligible to be in the same LL.

Btw - have we mentioned how stupid that respective championship games don't follow the double elimination format?

Meaning on the US bracket if Hawaii puts up a stinker, they will have one loss like Tennessee. Tennessee should have to beat Hawaii twice. I hate they do this. I'm fine with the Final being one and done since it's the 2 bracket winners playing. I absolutely hate they don't play double elimination for the whole bracket

I would agree with this. These kids could easily play a double header, if they needed to, today.

Taipei gives up a total of 2 runs and loses only 1 game, but are eliminated from title contention.

Don't understand why the Taipei 3rd base coach wasn't aggressive in the 5th. Should have been a tie game at a minimum.
