2022 Peripheral NFL Draft Implications (1 Viewer)

We’ve spent a lot of time discussing team picks. Let’s take a moment and consider what teams didn’t pick.

2 pretty clear examples:

• JAX: did not select a RB. Seems like they’re confident in ETN

ETA: 5th rounder Snoop Conner. Ok, JAX didn’t take an early RB

• BUF did not select a WR. Has to be great news for Gabriel Davis

What other teams/positions non-picks are worth noting?

I'd hold off on the whole RB thing. This draft is deep. It's not great from a fantasy perspective to be taken Day Three, but there might be guys that win jobs for a year or two at the position. Spiller, Ford, and Zamir White are all available.

Agreed RB is not done yet

A fair point.

True - White just went to Raiders now.

The more I read advanced stats, the worse Zamir White looks. There are some sites doing pioneering work that are really down on him.

Well this probably means Drake gets released. I don’t own Jacobs anywhere but yeah I’d not feel great, but it wouldn’t panic me if I did.
Jacobs isn’t being threatened here.

what’s next? thinking that Haskins is a threat to Henry?

Maybe not out of the gate, but they just declined his 5th year option so he’s not seemingly in the team’s future plans. If Jacobs struggles or gets hurt and White shows something, the rookie could conceivably take over.

My two cents on meaningful RB selections from a fantasy perspective.  I bolded the most intriguing to me upon first glance, subject to change of course.

Breece Hall  = Carter now relegated to 3rd down/backup duties.

Walker = Seahawks don't trust Penny or Carson to stay healthy

Cook = this one is hard for me to dissect because there are some similarities with singletary, wasn't an early pick so maybe viewed as depth?

White = Bucs looking for a compliment to Fournette, but not a replacement

Davis Price  = Niners needed RB depth with Elijah not likely able to carry a full load and Sermon disappointing thus far?

Robinson = Commanders want to lighten Gibson's load, this is a meaningful draft pick regarding early down work IMHO

Pierce = we(Texans) may have just found our starting RB of the future, and maybe of 2022

White = we needed a Drake replacement in Vegas

Spiller = Ekeler replacement if he can't stay healthy, depth

Strong Jr. = Pats adding RB depth after departure of Sony

Haskins = RB depth for Titans

Allgeier = an immediate upgrade over Mike Davis that will threaten for early down carries week one

Conner = maybe a goalline back specialist initially, RB depth

Ford = RB depth for the Browns

@Dr. Octopusprobably nailed it with the Drake call. Still good to note who the handcuff might be.
👍🏽

Sure, we never know if any late round pick outplays a veteran. Jacobs is pretty decent.  although I’m not sure why they declined his 5th year option I’d guess that’s just $8 million to a running back is more than they’re willing to spend on the position right now.  Even if I think that’s a better deal than they gave Drake. I’m just not seeing cause to worry about 2022 for JJ.

KC takes Isiah Pacheco (right spelling) in the seventh. That's 4.37 and a whole lot of truckin' weight to contain. NFL Network just said "he will make this team."

Hoo boy. Interesting.

Ravens trade Hollywood and then don't draft another WR.  Bateman and Andrews going to be league leaders in targets.

Saints must know/believe that Kamara will not be suspended (or it will be short) and that Tony Jones is a good enough backup plan.  Not many picks in this draft but they do not take a RB.

Could be they just realize that spending a pick on an rb is a waste when there are tons of udfa who offer similar upside to the guys getting picked in rounds 5-7.

Because it's KC, and the players in front of him are meh, it's worth following. I doubt if he has Elijah Moore's RB skills, based on what I've read. He'll have to contribute on special teams early. He also did 27 in the bench test, great for a RB or any player.

That's what I'm saying.  Looking through the list of tons of rbs and wrs getting signed right after the draft and wondering why so many of them went to indy
No clue whatsoever. Maybe they had gobs of money to spend. But why shore up your RB position if you're Indy? Isn't it pretty solid?
