Is it too early to start thinking about trading down from our first overall pick?

Sure doesn't look like it to me.

The honeymoon is officially over for Saleh. Welcome to the big chair, coach. This team is under-prepared, sloppy and appears to have absolutely no game plan.

And honestly....the heat should REALLY be on for Douglas. If they win 2-3 games (which honestly....kinda looks like a pipe dream at this point) and Wilson doesn't show something....why should his job be secure? His first draft class is a complete bomb. His investment in the o-line clearly isn't showing up, as they're bad at both phases of the game. (run and pass blocking)

Its an absolute embarrassment again.  I get that they lost Lawson....Becton is out, AVT and Moore missed the whole pre-season....Crowder hasn't played.  But this still doesn't look anything like an NFL football team.  Its worse than Gase at this point.

i used to never miss a game, even after moving to nc.  honestly, not even worth bothering to waste my time this year again.  as i keep saying, in an offensive parity filled league, this team can never score and perpetually loses by at least 3 scores.  if they could just make 1 right draft pick, but there is a reason they are in this place.  they miss on every pick, every year.  i mean, trading up for a guard?

I feel like logically I can’t accept there’s some mystical force called “the Jets” that just automatically kills QBs, but some how it’s never changing.

Constant turnover is what’s killed this franchise to some extent but no regime ever seems to earn more time either.

I feel so close to giving up. What’s the definition of insanity again?

Honestly, he (Douglas) was hyped up with the Eagles, but the draft classes he supposedly had input on were some of the worst.

I usually post some thoughts with some pluses and minuses but Im in a rare position where I really dont have much to say....the bar was set literally so low that its amazing that they are still falling short.  It was an all around disgraceful performance with literally every position and coaching....the game was boring....no players stood out....it was just awful and made me feel pretty bad like Dov said that maybe there is a Jets curse....So whats next?

Sludge through another liklely 2-3 win season...hope they improve on all aspects of the game - including Saleh and LaFleur (cant believe I was nervous that he could be poached in one season lol)

Trying to remember that they are the youngest team in the NFL and a rookie coaching staff....so many problems tho - just focusing on JD and the coaches

JD - His much hyped 1st draft class is literally in ruins....I understand that the 1st draft was for another regime but talent is talent and there looks to be minimal in the 1st draft.  His recent draft seems to be underwhelming so far at best...way too early and at least they are playing so gotta just hope they develop.

Salaeh - He has all the intangibles - just prayed he was a good in game coach...last 2 games has exposed him and the entire staff....they have to do better....and for the love of God get Mims in the game - 3 pts ij 2 games?  Changes have to be made - I dont care if he doesnt know every position or doesnt play special teams....give him a package and play him...enough of this doghouse crap...hes a 2d rd pick with made skills....cant afford to teach lessons and make him earn it over the awful WRs

Rookies - Zach looks completely flustered which is understandable from where he was last year....holds the ball way to long...terrible decisions....not using his running at all....praying he develops but he looks awful

AVT - looking average at best so far

Elijah Moore - what was all the hype about?  Looks completely average as well

FA signing - C Davis - Tenn fans are laughing...this was the Davis they know...one great game and 2-3 stinkers....cant be counted on as a #1 WR

Future - Im tired of ripping it apart...cant win without some semblance of continuity...I say for better or worse give JD/Saleh/Zach time to turn this around....gotta be at least 3-4 yrs....theres no Parcells to save them...gotta hope they can learn and figure it out.  Should get another top 5 pick....Seattle doesnt look great so another decent pick along with 2 2ds and more $ - keep chopping until things turn but this is gonna take a lot longer than I expected.

Obviously its still far too early for judgement, but this is exactly how I expected Wilson to look when they drafted him (Before the pre-season hype machine against backups and 3rd stringers)

Drops are killing him. The line stinks. But he still looks like a guy who spent last year with ALL DAY to throw against a sub-par schedule. He's playing actual players now and he's panicking. Mechanics and footwork constantly breaking down.

Dont want to be right, and it will likely be another calendar year before we know.....but things looks really bleak right now.

Justin Herbert started his first game with 20 minutes notice and a COVID limited pre-season.  He threw for 311 yards and took the super bowl champs to overtime.

i see 0-10 when they travel to houston and maybe jax game is winnable?  mock 2022 draft has no real strong QBs.  so a team trying to trade up and offer picks for a franchise QB seems limited.  honestly, i can’t see myself watching 14 more of these games.

You just cannot go back to back to back GMs who miss on literally all of their draft picks.  It's sort of looking this way.  NOBODY can make a play?  Like, at all?

It may not make anyone feel better, but for every Herbert, there are several Wilsons, Fields, Lawrences, etc. Look at all the rookie QBs. They all look bad. Herbert is the exception, not the norm.

You want to see a deer in headlights, look at Fields. He looks to be the worst of all, but for some reason, he is everyone's golden child.  He took 9 sacks and went 6-20 for 68 yards.

Lawrence has 7 INTs  (including a pick-6 yesterday)like Wilson and he was supposed to be the best QB prospect since Luck.

Mac Jones who arguably has the best coaching in the league threw 3 INTs yesterday, one that was a pick-6 and another pick-6 that was reversed for a non-td.  This is a QB who has a good coaching staff that protected him prior to this game with short easy throws (unlike our dummy).

It's not easy to be a QB in this league, especially for a rookie. Give them time.

At this point wins are not even on the table as possible....we are looking at baby steps.  1st step would be string a few good drives together....then a TD...then a half.....then a competitive whole game....then possibly winning....they are that far off.

However, with the bar so low....my hope is they hit rock bottom and end the year on a high note so at least there is progress.  If its just an entire season crap a palooza then Im not sure what hope Jets fans can have...

Also there is always a QB or 2 that rise in the rankings that gets teams all excited in the draft....Burrow and Wilson were mid round prospects once....Im confident deals will be there if needed....at least Seattle looks pretty average too so their pick will be decent

Definitely correct - struggling is the norm....it was just with all the pre season hype I was really hoping that Wilson would be the exception like Herbert....should have known better

Yeah, I can't be upset when I see Wilson struggle, as I FULLY expected him to struggle. The fact that the other guys are doing the same certainly has to make you feel a LITTLE better.

Just kinda seems like this new regime kinda spent all Summer pissing down our backs and telling us it was raining.

Wilson was "different". Elijah Moore....they thought they found a "superstar". "Sources inside the organization think Vera-Tucker is their best lineman" (not that that's a high bar). Mims is "having a GREAT week of practice"

In the end, they're an embarrassment.......AGAIN.  The writing was on the wall re: Pass Protection all summer long and they did NOTHING. Now we're 3 weeks in and our "savior" QB is taking a historical beating and we can't run anything resembling an NFL offense as a result.

Again....rookie coaching staff....rookie QB....some bad luck with injuries. But this season absolutely could NOT start out with "Same Ol' Jets" talk. And low and behold....it has.

How many years has the season been literally over by the end of the 1st month....it stinks.  I was just hoping to play some meaningful games in November let alone December.  The bar was low and once again they Jets are well under it....

Going to Denver is not easy - lots of teams lay an egg there - Tenn at home is a more reasonable order.  Im expecting Henry to run wild but that defense isnt all world....need to put up at least 20 to get some mojo back.

The no vet QB is really upsetting me - Im fine with going with the kid as a starter but they really should have invested in a vet who could mentor and help him ala McCown.  They had the money and there were legit backups out there and JD short armed it.  This is something that can be addressed though - he should be out there searching for and worst case trade a late pick to get one....the kid needs a mentor and a rookie coaching staff alone aint it

Also even if just to avoid getting crushed by the media....for the love of god activate and play Mims over these clown WRs who have done nothing for 3 weeks....thk you....

oh and never say how good the team looked in practice the week before a game a well....

Maye out 3-4 weeks now. Man....this team is HORRIBLE.
Even worse,,,his agent smarmily posted that Maye will be back and healthy right before the trade deadline.....

what a disaster....they are at least 3 yrs from competing...no need to pay a 29 yr old safety....ship him out for another pennies on the dollar for a high pick trade...maybe seattle wants to send another 1st to pair him with Jamal!

I think we're about a week away from me watching RedZone on Sundays, instead of the Jets, if I'm going to watch football.
I have to admit I watch the O for Wilson then I sometimes linger on Redzone while the D is out there.....they dont give up a ton of pts but give up lots of boring mind numbing long drives that i am ok missing!

I'm already there. I have Direct TV, so I have to buy the Ticket in order to get Red Zone. I negotiated that for free last and I think I'm calling to try and do that again later today. (My year long discount I negotiated last year is up this month)

I'll start on the Jets game most week, but based on the way the first halves have been going, it doesn't last long.

Life is too short to watch horrendous football.

called them last week and was able to get the Ticket max for free as well as some other savings...they are losing it soon so desperate to keep customers...play hardball - if they dont give it to you schedule a cancel date then call retention a few days later.

You guys with your RedZone. I just roll out 6 TVs and a couple of computers for the early games.  My head is on a swivel. Admittedly, I'm focusing less time on the Jets tv, but I have it down to a science.

First down. Grimace after the 2 yard run, but scan around the tvs for my fantasy players.

Second down. Shake my head in disapproval. Scan around for my players.

Third down (if there is a third down) curse the o-line or OC after a sack. Back to scanning for my fantasy players.

Don't even bother looking at the punt if we didn't turn it over by then.

On defense, focus on my fantasy players, but glance to the Jets to see if Mosley can get me a tackle in my IDP league.

Well, Crowder and Mims are back in with Moore and Smith out.  I guess Wayne Chrebet  wasn't available this weekend, so they were forced to play Mims (for how much, we'll see).

Julio and Brown are out. It's basically Henry and a bunch of bums. I think even Dupree will be out on defense.

Any chance in hell that we can win? Ok, cover the spread?

The Tenn defense blows. It's a huge step down from Denver, Carolina, and NE. We may actually not look terrible on offense. It's a low bar, but baby steps.

We're not bad against the run, but the solo tackle effort won't work against Henry. I think the Jets still (for years it seems) suffer from watching their teammates attempt to solo tackle runners. When that fails, another teammate tries it and so on. I wish they would gang tackle like other teams. They will need to on Sunday.

Anyway, somewhat optimistic about Sunday.

Sadly, we're already at the point of not wanting to root for TOO many wins.   I want Wilson to play well and I want him to stay healthy, but a "good record" is already out the door.

Im sick of tanking....dont need a QB...they have enough draft capital...its time to work on the culture and that means winning...even if it is an ugly one against an injury plagued team!

I don't think we have to worry about that. Ha.

Let me get your opinion on this.  I don't like the way LaFleur is pointing the finger at the players for lack of execution, but maybe I'm already biased against him. From the Athletic:

After three games, they rank 30th in passing offense, 29th in rushing and 30th in total yards.

They played the Broncos last Sunday. They were shut out.

They play the Titans this weekend. They need to get it fixed.

Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur has an idea: Keep it simple.

“When guys aren’t executing, you got to figure out what is going wrong, what are the players not hearing that’s not allowing the execution,” he said on Thursday. “So, I challenged the coaches, I challenged myself, how can we make it easier?”

Even if he says, let's see what we (coaches) can do to make it easier on them, the thing I don't see is: maybe the game plan can be better.

Then Saleh says:

“When things work, you’re a genius. When they don’t, you’re an idiot. And that’s what it is, that’s the NFL, forever and a day,” coach Robert Saleh said. “You look at the play calling, if you want to ever come sit down with me, I’ll go right through a game with you and just show the thoughtfulness, whenever you want. Let me know man, I’m serious. The thoughtfulness in the calls and the things that are happening and the opportunities that are out there.

“I thought (LaFleur) has done a good job. … Once it all clicks, people will start to appreciate the job he’s doing.”

Hmm

Hmm is right. Buck stops with the coach, though.

As far as the DirecTV goes, I don't wheel out televisions. I have GameMix on Channel 701 or 702 to do all that for me. Eight games on one screen. Get with the times, RAGE!

Agree about the coach thing. I've been on pro-Saleh side and I see that he is defending his guy, but preparation and effort means bupkis compared to results.

You know everything is bigger in Texas. Forget that 8 games channel. When the scheduling dummies have 8-9 games on at noon (CST), I sometimes will watch the channel with the 4 games on my big screen. Unfortunately they usually show at least 2 games that I prefer watching on normal sized screen

Sometimes I use the Directv site on my computer and hook it up to my tv. At least I can choose the games on the DirecTv site. I'll never understand why they don't let you choose the 4 games on the DirecTV channel.  Oh well, last year of this anyway. Looking forward to see who offers the package next year.

I totally agree and then I think. You know what? Profit-seeking will never end with these guys. I actually think DirecTV is a deal compared to what they could and what they will indeed eventually charge. I think we'll look back fondly on when it was all centralized on DirecTV. I think they're moving a la carte, and at movie prices.

It will definitely be interesting. I'm in-market for the Jets, so the ticket is certainly not a "must" for me. But it does give me something else to watch when the Jets are getting killed or they're not playing in a certain window.   I like to flip around and watch my fantasy players....maybe redzone a little (although DTV redzone with Sicilianno <<<<<<< normal red zone with Hanson). But if I cant....that's ok.

I'm sure a Bears fan living in LA will gladly pay $10-15 a week to watch their team if that's what it comes down to. For me, if I dont have ticket access anymore, that's just less football I'll consume. I'm not that big of a fan that I'm gonna watch Giants-Falcons at 4:15 on a Sunday afternoon when I have no rooting interest. I'll just find something else to do most of the time.

Even if there's a HUGE Sunday night or Monday night game, I rarely sit through the entire thing. Its usually background noise while I'm doing other stuff.  Maybe rooting for the Jets has just soured me. watching teams that actually play professional caliber football is just too painful.

I think it hurts in that I'm totally a sucker who sets his clocks to the games right now. I'll watch anything, and I hope that it doesn't fragment and move to certain channels who then will bundle extra programming in with it to get you to pony up and pay for a specific package.

I honestly hope DirecTV retains the rights and keeps the prices somewhat down. But I doubt that. The deal will be staggering, whatever it is.

Everything is relatively good in life. In Jets life, I’m just going to sit, watch and wait.
Cool. Maybe see you tomorrow around the boards. I don't like our chances much with Tennessee looming, though I'm not sure they have any receivers to speak of. It'll be a heavy dose of Henry, I'm thinking.

At this point wins and losses don’t mean much. I’m going to a friend’s second wedding tomorrow at the beach. I’ll miss most of the games but that’s ok. It’s going to be a beautiful day outside.

That's awesome. Second weddings were meant for the beach or outdoors. Have a good time, man.

Who in their right mind would get married again if drugs, blackmail, or guns are not involved?
lol

Married again would be twice what I have done with respect to the institution, so I generally don't comment. Never betrothed here. I used to be pretty conservative and against divorce until I saw it up close. Oof.

The devil you know theory.  It's possible.  DirecTV loses a ton of money on the NFL package, but it's like marketing (or a turkey loss leader during Thanksgiving) expense. Would anyone use DirecTV if it wasn't for the NFL Ticket?

I've been a customer for 20 years. I feel like that scene from Rounders where Tedddy KGB says, "stick it in you".  They charge $10 for every receiver and $10 for HD. Plus all kinds of other fees and taxes.

I watch every game of the week. I would have to get the package and not just the Jets.

PS. - Happy Saturday Night.
