Certainly those early teams were not as good, but he also had CMC in those games. As discussed in the CMC thread, I'm afraid he may not play a lot more this season, which would hurt any QB, especially a younger one on a new team. But if this "conflict" works out the way most things do in life, neither of us will "win" and be completely correct. Probably as it should be.

After watching Adams, Darnold and even Leonard Williams in their new and upgraded situations - the returns Douglas got on the trade market for all 3 of those guys alone may keep him here for an extra few years, even if his draft classes end up sucking.  Masterful job recycling 3 [dead to us] assets for premium draft capital.

His return for Adams was fantastic and getting anything for Darnold was good too. But Leonard Williams is an absolute beast.

Seems to be playing closer this year to what he truly is vs. how he played last year.  Having said that, he's a fine player, just was not going to get resigned by us (which was pretty well known) - so to still score a 3rd rounder from NYG (who promptly felt obligated to pay him top of the market $$$) is a win for NYJ.

Agreed - with Q in house and yrs away from contending there was no way they were going to resign him.  He also played at a much lower level with the Jets than he did with the Giants.  The 3rd rder was a good haul...who he used it on is another story (Ashton Davis)

Welcome to the Jets disaster 2021 edition - 

How is it possible with the bar so low the Jets could regress?  

I really hate to start questioning the coaching staff but that effort after a bye week is unacceptable.  The worst criticism I could give this coaching staff is that the team looks worse than it did under Gase.- and thats something.  

QB - and the chickens come home to roost....we've all been clamoring for a vet QB and now Wilson will be out for weeks with a complete rookie plus QB taking over in White....as Ock in the new title states - in some franchises this is the start of an exciting new chapter like Brady or Warner.....not here - it will be a slog that drags down the entire franchise to another 1-2 win season.  Hoping Wilson only has a PCL and will be back in a few weeks but whats the point.  Its really not even an awful thing to have him sit for a few weeks and learn - but learn from what?  White is just as clueless....really bad job by JD here.  

RB - Carter looked decent....still not someone a DC has to worry about but at least mediocre which is an improvement

TE - ghosts

WR - Elijah finally was given the ball on a gadget play in space and scored...to bad it was in garbage time....Davis stlll showing hes an expensive #2 WR and Cowder needs to be traded.  If he goes then Elijah to inside and Mims to outside....has to be done

OL - awful except AVT - need another rebuild

Defense - just putrid - giving up a 50 spot to a rookie QB on mostly swing passes is unacceptable.  

HC - Saleh is losing me - has same clueless look that has infected all prior jets coaches - no energy and gameplan off a bye week looks terrible.  No answers - same crap about practicing well....not a good look at all

OC - Lafleur gets his own mention on how bad and uncreative the O has been - he may need to be the sacraficial lamb - Saleh and Wilson need a solid vet OC.  

JD - 1st draft and almost all FA signings are lousy - no vet QB....good at trades, letting Sam go is proving to be the right move but he needs to build the team better - too many holes and still not enough OL and weapons.  

Apathy is now set in again.....I was rooting for wins for the 1st time in years - im not rooting for losses yet but could care less....and its not even Halloween!

Agreed that at this point...the "break" might be good for him. Maybe they get Becton back (although that seems unlikely) and figure out how to run the ball. I'm not optimistic though. 

At this point, with Wilson out, the rest of the season is mostly (IMO) a tryout for the coaching staff. Obviously they're not firing Saleh after a year but if the offense continues to be this bad....would upper management REALLY let LeFleur skate by? I know he's close with Saleh, so the decision would have to come from above him. But it has to be considered.  If they dont figure out how to run the ball, get Moore consistently involved and yes.....get value out of Mims....you have to consider a new OC next year. Its been that bad.

And the offense obviously wasn't the problem yesterday.  I honestly have no idea how they let up 54 points....off a bye....to a rookie QB....on a 2-4 team....that they've ALREADY played. Its absolute insanity. I know Jones is good as what hes good at and BB is BB.....but 54 FREAKING points? This was pretty much the ideal game for not getting blown out and it still managed to happen.

Best case scenario - the "rest" is probably not a bad thing at all - hoping for 3 weeks - miss some monster defenses in the Bengals and Bills....skip the Colts....come back vs Fins/Texans

As i said above- I just wish there was a vet like McCown he could watch as a real pro the next few weeks...watching White trying to figure it out and getting crushed won help much.....

There's just no way they can do that. No freaking way. Guy was (arguably) the most desirable candidate on the market. If the Jets fire him after 1 year, who in their right mind would take that job going forward (especially with Wilson being a very large question mark at this point)

I might get an interview for HC if they were to fire Saleh.

Agreed - if Gase got a year 2 so does Saleh....but im very unimpressed so far.

Even if they go 1-15, I agree that firing Saleh would be a bad choice.

Obviously at some point you need to stop the bleeding but having a rotating door at HC and GM is a big part of why this franchise has failed so miserably.

Completely agree....the revolving door needs to stop...Im looking for something though to believe change for the better is coming...I can cherry pick some good things for JD - enough to justify him learning and growing into the job for another few yrs...Saleh and his staff has shown zero though....they need to do better.

i don’t know about jd, his drafts have been, ahem, underwhelming….one of the main reasons this rooster looks like it does.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote. I’d also point out that Bryce Hall has been a pretty good pick out of his first draft.

the issue with this team is right there in the first paragraph…..trades.  while jd did decent, he traded a 6 overall, 6 overall and 3 overall?  these are supposed to be foundational type players.  i know he didn’t draft them, but can we find a top 10 pick that can actually play?

sunk cost but I hear you - Leo Williams was looking for crazy $ and didnt really show enough to earn it with the Jets...plus he was not needed with Q.  

Adams was a bad idea from the start - safeties just shouldnt be drafted that high - and it was proven right so far.  

You are correct tho - They absolutely need to hit on 1st rd picks.  JD should be judged mostly on Becton, Mims, Wilson, AVT Elijah - those are literally must hits - need at least 4 of those 5 to be big time contributors.  Really need Becton to come back in good form and Mims to get a real chance - they cant waste picks.  

speaking of that - fully expecting Maye to get unloaded for a 4th by the deadline.

Hey guys - sorry it's been rough.  Just stopping in for Bengals week.  The one thing I can say is that our fan base spent two seasons (really two and a quarter seasons) killing Zac Taylor but the FO kept the faith and he's built and incredible culture (even if his game planning still needs work).  But it took time to turn over the roster, especially getting rid of some of the old Marvin guys that were not bought in.  And yeah obviously having a field general like Burrow makes a massive massive difference but it really goes beyond that.

So you definitely need to give Saleh the time and chance to get "his guys" in there.  I don't follow you guys close enough but obviously the Adams deal was a big step in that direction.  The Lawson signing was too - it's unfortunate with the injury.  So I'd ask how are the newer/younger players doing - attitude wise? 

How early/late in the offseason process did you guys hire Saleh?  One of the things that was very tough with Taylor's first couple of years was that the Bengals had to wait until pretty much all the good assistants were gone as they waited to officially name Taylor (because of the Rams being in the Super Bowl).  If the staff really is full of his guys - and guys that were gotten early on then that is a bit more worrisome but if that's not the case then Saleh and Douglass have a lot more time to get guys that will be more in concert with Saleh.  If the effort - not the results - but the actual effort itself is lacking from key younger pieces then that's a huge red flag. 

Anyway on to game itself (which I cannot go to as the Devils inexplicable have a 5pm start time that night -and with another team from Ohio no less - and I'm going with my nephew and bro-in-law).  Do you think they throw Flacco straight into the fire?  I mean on the one hand he's an old pro who probably could more easily handle that but at the same time it's not like he's worked with this Jets coaching staff and it's not like it's the same Bengals staff that he was used to facing when he was in the AFC North.  Losing the late pick feels like a waste but it still is a good correction to the mistake of not having a veteran in the QB room.  Hopefully they are wise enough not to rush Wilson back

As excited as I am about the Bengals play I just hope they don't sleep on the Jets and get off to another slow start.  They were able to pull the Houdini against Jacksonville (a game which came right after another big divisional win) but that's something they have to clean up.  If your defense can force mistakes early on who knows?

I couldn’t see anyway Flacco could start this week. I think they needed to make the trade in case something happens to White now. Most 6th round picks are “wasted” anyway.

It has been a disaster season, but I saw that Alijah Vera-Tucker got a commendation as being one of the top fifteen graded rookies thus far according to PFF, though how much of that is self-fulfilling (PFF had him as the best interior lineman in the draft) is up for debate.

i hear you - not all of these guys embrace the mentor role - I think that was when he was the starter in Denver and was hanging onto his job....Id be shocked if he didnt embrace the mentor role better now - but regardless - even if they dont become BFFs - at least Wilson can see how a vet approaches things...besides losing a late pick when they should have just signed someone - I dont see a down side.

Oh, I agree that there's no real down side to this as it stands now. And I think he should have been there from the beginning. I pretty much agree with everything you said, actually. I just chose to focus on that one throw-away point for some reason. Huh. Oh well, it's a good thing that they have him, but not the way in which it all has come to pass.

Adot may have been impacted without Corey Davis; I guess time will tell.  Still the sheer volume of production was a refreshing change of pace for the Jets offense.

Odds are Doc is right and this is a one time all the planets aligned game of his life moment.....and if so good for him...he did more than Hackenberg in one start....But....

These stories happen....late round picks/FAs coming out of nowhere to be the real deal....Kurt Warner, Brady, Dak, etc...its probably a long shot but the Jets have to absolutely give this kids a few starts to see if there is something there.  It's not fair to ask him to replicated those ridiculous numbers against the Colts....just see if he can move the offense and put up points similar to Sunday.  They have a built in excuse to let Zach sit the next 3 games....they should take it.  A 4 game audition is fair and then see where White is at. If he stays hot then I have zero problem letting Wilson watch the rest of the year. 

White is a RFA after the season - would be a great problem to have if the kid makes it a legit QB controversy.  

Again - likely a long shot but at worst Zach gets a few extra weeks to sit and learn.  Plus I like him feeling a little heat....he was handed the starting gig....about time he works for it.  Possibly being a Josh Rosen should be incentive!
