As of today Jets have the #4, #5, #37, #42 picks in the 1st 2 rds....I dont expect that to hold but Seattle and Carolina look like a mess....not crazy to be 2 top 10 picks and 4 top 50 picks. 

Wilson just looks awful but he has the rest of the season to get used to the speed and hopefully a lot of new protection and weapons to help development next year.

Agreed - you build the team around the QB - almost like some people were clamoring for last year in keeping Sam.....with 4 top 50 picks, $over $50M in cap space, more experienced coaching staff, hopeful return of a healthy Becton and Lawson and this should be a much improved team next year even if Wilson is not the answer. 

If Zach is bad next year as well then they need to look for a QB in 2023 but team will be much better shape...that being the case I could see JD moving down next draft on one of the high 1st rders if possible to add another 1st rder for more capital next year in case they need a QB in 2023.

Such a bad defensive effort. Coverage was laughable early and they didnt get anybody on the ground all day. Every single run, the Philly ball carrier broke a tackle and/or stumbled forward for 3 or 4 more yards.

I know Wilson moved the ball in the first half but I wasn't especially impressed.  On nearly every catch, the WR had to adjust for a poorly placed ball.  Again...even on short stuff,  they cost themselves yards due to poor accuracy

Agree on both counts. I have a feeling the DC will be the scapegoat at season’s end and the rest of the staff survives.

As far as Wilson, I felt the same. It was nice to see him have some success but even a few of the completions were shaky throws. It’s a start maybe though. It was his best game in weeks.

The good - OL was decent - Zach showed some improvement (though nothing fantastic).  At least he looked serviceable though I agree many of the passes the WRs had to adjust to and he has to stop gunning it on 5-10 yd patterns.  

The bad - Defense was awful again -

The ugly - Saleh is really losing his shine as a defensive guru....Rex would never have a defense this bad.  The kicking situation has been a disaster since Folk and Myers...thats 3 yrs of awful kicking that costs games....I dont understand how GMs short arm on an extra million or 2 on a good vet kicker  They win games and I can see the value over many of the ovrerpaid JAGS on the roster.  If they want to make as real run in the future they actually have to solve this problem.

Exactly. The 2nd one in particular was clearly behind Johnson. The first one certainly should have been caught. Kinda blanking on what the 3rd one looked like.

But it was just more of the same from Zach. He's seeing everything late, reacting too late and then rifling passes way too hard (appears to be panicking) trying to fit them into the right windows.  Its embarrassing and a MAJOR red flag.  These are the absolute simplest of NFL throws. They're throws you'd expect any division 1 college QB to make 95% of the time. And Wilson can't make them.

And now apparently he's also a complete coward....sliding 20 yards too early when he's got miles of open field in front of him.

I get it...his weapons were out. There was almost zero chance of him having a "good" game this week. But if you can't complete a 7 yard crossing patter....or a screen pass....or a 10 yard out....it doesn't matter who is running the routes. Those throws should be on time and on the numbers every time...especially from a QB who everyone went gaga over for his "short to mid range accuracy" during the entire draft process.

Its a bad year for rookie QB's (obviously Lawrence is a complete and total mess as well) with the exception of...of course....the one the Patriots got. But Wilson is clearly the worst of the lot. At least Justin Fields competed last night. He looks like a rookie going through growing pains. Wilson looks like a guy who doesn't deserve to be here.

Yeah, I think we’re all wondering the same thing. He definitely needs his weapons all healthy at the same time and better protection, but despite all that, we’re not seeing some progression/improvements that would be expected at this late stage of Year 1. It’s not like he’s in a dysfunctional system/coaching regime that Lawrence (and Fields to a lesser degree) is currently facing.

Oh man - what can you say...in a season with such a low bar how can this team be worse?  I completely understand that they are missing many key players but thats the NFL.  Last 2 yrs terrible teams were beset by injuries and somehow looked better than this one.  

QB - Im officially concerned with Wilson.  He has Browning Nagle syndrome all over him.  I was expecting just a few flashes each game here and there but him missing and grounding passes is concerning long term.  I mean Sam looked light years better in terms of development the last part of his rookie season vs how Wilson looks now.  He's looked Rosen-eque which is frightful.....if there was a top QB available where they are picking Id honestly have to consider - thats how bad its been.  Hes clearly not ready - gotta pray he and the Jets go all in on the off season development and he comes back a much different QB - I also think its time to stop coddling him and bring in a decent experienced QB to compete with him

OL - Becton is also not guaranteed to be part of the future - he simply cant be counted on with his size, conditioning and injury history.....the good news is Fant has been very solid and is still under 30 so could hold the fort for a while   Who would have thought his contract would look good at the end.  Just like Wilson - if there is a stud OL at their pick I think they dont hesitate to grab him...Im not counting on Becton for 2022

WR - Mims is officially a bust - this is why they didnt want him on the field - golden opportunity and hes terrible.  What a whiff - aother 2d round bust.  

RB - Still need another one - besides Carter who is too small to be a feature back -  these guys are JAGS

TE - can they please add a TE...its like a black hole

Def - complete overhaul needed.  

Coaching - I cant believe Im saying this but Saleh and his staff have looked worse than Gase.  Hes also officially on notice - one mulligan year - they need to show big improvement next year or hes next....Im tired of preaching patience and small steps...this league is judged by wins and losses....teams can get competitive within a year - unacceptable they have been this bad for so many years in a row...falls on ownership but they arent going anywhere.

I see him as a good fit to compete with Wilson.  He's only 30 yrs old and he knows the offense.  They know him - have the money to bring him in - I like the fit.  Hes a decent stop gap but not too good where if Wilson cant beat him out then hes just not good enough....they have to get a legit QB next year to compete with Zach...thoughts?

What more does he have to do?  Was getting out played by Josh Johnson not enough?  I'm fat, slow, and have no arm strength, but I could hit the wide open passes to rbs Wilson has over shot.  He doesn't even have back up potential.

Totally unwatchable. Thankfully the Tiger and Charlie Woods show was on at the same time as this debacle. O-Line was HORRENDOUS from what I saw but again...not much out of Zach.

QB - Zach looked competent in the 1st half.  Which is huge progress from where he was at.  2d half he was running for his life back there.  Small step forward against a solid D and no OL/weapons.  3 games left and only 1 mediocre def - hoping he lights up Jax next week to give us something to feel good about this offseason

OL - not having Fant really hurt.  JD needs to draft another stud OL in the 1st or 2d rd or FA signing.  

RB - Carter was clearly gimpy but slippery - I think he'll be competent - not worth spending more draft capital there.  Id sign a better compliment - they can get one for cheap

WR  - horrific - every WR except Berrios should be gone next year - Mims is another 2d rd bust. JD needs to spend a premium pick or signing on another WR.  I like A-Rob coming off a bad year - still relatively young and should be much more affordable.  Big target to go with Davis and Elijah.  Mike Williams would be nice as well.  

TE - Good to see the OC incorporate the position for once.  Id grab a decent TE in FA - I like Uzomah from Cincy.  Young and shouldnt be too expensive.  

DL - Invisible - hoping for rebound.  Obviously pass rusher needed - if Lawson comes back and they can grab one of the big 2 that would be ideal.  

LB - put this on need as well - Mosely makes tackles but is not a playmaker anymore.  He has one more year before likely cut - need to draft an heir.  

CB - Hall looks like a legit #2 CB.  ekels good depth - draft/sign a solid #1 CB and this will be a strength

S - ugly - good news is easy to fix.  Should be able to get Maye back on a prove it deal.  Besides the top safeties they are not too expensive.  

K - I have a feeling this Pinero may be a good one.  extended try out - if he finishes strong lock him in for next year

Carter, Moore, Berrios, AVT, Fant, Q Williams (both of them) JFM, Hall, Carter 2 as a slot, Echols as a 4th/5th corner.

I mean....that's pretty much the list. Everyone else is either easily upgradable or expendable in what appears to NOT be a short term rebuild (due to how bad Wilson has looked)

I love Mosley's effort, but he's an overpaid luxury for a team that isn't going anywhere. Off the top of my head, I dont see anyone else too far above JAG level. I know plenty of the D-linemen have flashed at times, but they're all inconsistent. I'm skeptical Lawson is gonna be the same player after the achilles.

this team is so bereft of talent, it likely takes at least 3 more off seasons to rebuild the talent level.  and good off seasons, something this team can’t do.  if wilson can’t play and there is no indication right now he can, they are a black hole for another 5-6 years, regardless of draft capital.  they spent 2 top picks on the o line and yesterday was a complete protection joke.  and you can keep telling me quinnen williams is a stud, but i keep seeing teams running at will against this team and williams rarely alters the game.  interior linemen are rotational pieces, no way i pay this guy big money.  i don’t see the path out of this right now.  also, i don’t even know if saleh and douglas know what they are doing.

If a year from now Wilson stinks - yes the team is in trouble of course. I think JD is putting together a pretty decent foundation though. He found three offensive gems in ATV, Moore and Carter last year and we have to hope Becton isn’t perennially injured (that would be tough to totally blame on JD though).

Wilson looked better last game but I’m not going to pretend he looked all that good. He finally made some of the simple throws look easy at least and made a few very nice plays. He still doesn’t show any poise or real command of the offense out there and he looks so small out there. I’m still trying to be hopeful but losing some faith.
 

@Kiddnets mentioned Jimmy G a few days ago. I’m starting to think having him around - assuming SF let’s him walk - wouldn’t be a bad move. Motivation for Wilson and a very competent QB should Wilson not progress.

Agree with your break down as well.  On the bright side, most of those core players you listed were from the last draft. 

Hopefully Becton comes back but I agree he cant be counted on Fant and AVT are solid, Moses can come back as a stop gap.  - Id like to see JD draft another stud OL and upgrade the rest in FA.  If he does that then OL should be decent even without Becton - if he comes back it would be a bonus.  

but if JD can have another draft like last year and Lawson comes back they should have a solid base.

As for Wilson, definitely a question mark.  Id like to see him with another full offseason with coaching, more OL/WR help along with a lower level veteran to compete with.  If he comes back next year still very shaky then we have our answer but at least the rest of the team should be in better shape.

Q is gonna get a big deal - they almost have to for PR purposes as they cant let another top 5 pick walk.  He definitely disappears but Im hoping adding Lawson and another Edge rusher takes some of the pressure off him.

Obviously Wilson is the key - however if he does fail they will have a much better team in place for the next swing at the position.  

While you cant blame JD for Becton's injuries he did go high upside on Becton where there was talk he slipped due to conditioning concerns and he passed on a more low ceiling but solid player in Wirfs. 

Jimmy G is playing well and SF is winning - both not good for his value from a Jets standpoint.  He will be in demand if they even trade him....they put some much capital into the rookie though it would be a tough sell short of a deep playoff run not to give him the reins.

Annual debate on reddit on winning vs higher draft pick.  They are not tanking so its not a tank debate - more of a whats better for the franchise.  

I dont see any chance that they beat Tampa or Buffalo so it comes down to JAx this week.  Is there any benefit to beating a putrid Jags team vs a potential top 2 draft pick vs top 5?  I am rooting for the kid to look good but if they lose no big deal.  It has been shown time and time again that meaningless late wins do not carry over in any way - see Gase's 1st season. 

Id love to get one of the highly rated pass rushers or be at #1/2 to position for a monster haul if a QB vaults up the rankings (though none are currently .  I certainly wont be upset like I was last year with a meaningless win but will be secretly happy with draft position.   If they cn find a way to beat Tampa or Buffalo Id put a lot more value in a win like that vs Jax.

Yeah...one magical performance against a putrid Jacksonville team (followed by likely humiliations at the hands of Tampa and Buffalo) wont mean a damn thing for Wilson long term. Any realistic chance of him "showing something" that gives us any optimism going into the winter is gone. He's either good enough to "fix" what has caused him play so horribly over the off-season or he's not.

Would it be nice if he threw for 300 and 3 TD's and they still lost by a FG? Sure. But at this point, I'll take another lousy performance it means they get the 2nd pick instead of the 5th or 6th.

I'd also seriously consider (like I always do) drafting a QB if you're there. Just because it's the most gosh darn important position in any sport. I don't care about this wait-and-see and development stuff for a guy that's not completing passes within five yards of himself. If you've got Kyler Murray there and Josh Rosen is on your squad, you take Murray. Rosen is barely in the NFL at this juncture. 

The problem is that there seems to be no Murray in this draft. I say, who cares, take the QB anyway. A DL won't mean as much as an impact QB will. Think outside of the box. You've sucked for so long you can't afford to play it like a normal team. Pretend you're starting over. If that means with a new coach, new GM, new QB, so be it. Because this is beyond dreadful. 

And I like Wilson and his style and when he's on. It's just, while you're at the store, honey, could you draft the highest-rated QB please?

Interesting game - I must admit I was annoyed that it looked liked Jax tanked it at the end - but it only dropped them a slot or 2 and the Seattle loss made up for it.  It was good to see the kid and coaches happy for once - it means nothing in the long run but having him outperform Trevor...and he did....is at least something for him to hang his hat on.  

Wilson played well despite having a tattered OL and zero weapons.  He showed he could be very elusive and they need to incorporate many more rollouts/running plays for him in the future.  He hasnt taken a huge step but he has shown slight improvement with better control of passes and limiting turnovers.  Gives us hope that he can build on this year and can be a solid QB.  They need to upgrade OL and WRs 

Berrios - I was down on this guy all year but he just wont go away - too easy to compare him to a Chrbet and not really a fair comparison.  Reminds me more of a Danny Woodhead - undersized player with a ton of heart who makes a lot of plays.  Hes an UFA but seems to be a great return man, slot WR and locker room guy - cant break the bank for him but he deserves a second contract and should be brought back.  

Next 2 games are interesting - on papers they should get blown out so no real pressure.  Id like to see Wilson continue to build  - show some of that playmaking elusiveness but dont slip back into the bad habits.

Decided to spend my early afternoon golfing instead of watching this nonsense (50 degrees and sunny on Dec 26th? Yes please)

Glad Zach made a couple of plays. Seems like he has "fixed" (at least for now) the turnovers. Still not putting up big #'s, but he's got no help right now.

I sort of assumed they'd win, as Jax is used to and totally ok with tanking for draft position. Last year was a disgrace and I'm glad the franchise is in shambles. Nothing against Lawrence personally, but with how obvious last year's tank job was, I'm glad he's off to a terrible start.  They didn't deserve the right to draft him.

Not gonna get too hung up on "oh, we can't draft player X" now. (although I would have preferred a close loss) We aren't taking a QB and there's simply no way to say who's going where this far out. I'm sure a QB will rise up the board at some point and maybe that provides and opening to make a move (or to have another position fall to us)

Looks like y’all have a QB of the future after all. Since coming back, I’ve been impressed with Wilson’s moxie. And it seems they’ve taken the shackles off of his legs, because that scrambling yesterday was something else. 

Looking forward to seeing he improves next year.

I'm completely fine with the win. There isn't a clear cut #1 guy IMHO.I still believe in Saleh and Douglas, and they need days like this to push the positive messaging that the guys who will be back need to hear.  Getting your teeth kicked in week after week isn't helping anyone. I thought Wilson looked better, and the TD run gives him something to feel good about and reason for his teammates to feel good about him. He can't be a leader of the offense until he earns that respect. Glad to see Carter looking like the guy he was before the injury as well. I'd be shocked if they won either of their next two games and I don't think Seattle wins both of theirs so you are still likely looking at a top 5 pick and then another in the top 10 as well. That's in addition to 2 of the first 10 picks in the 2nd. They are going to have plenty of draft ammunition and cap space to really change the talent level next offseason. Let's just hope Wilson keeps improving with the roster.

Yep this wasnt last year where I was going nuts with the meaningless wins.  It even goes to show that a "generational" QB can struggle - who knows if he ends up better than Wilson.  So much depends on the franchise and development and JAx is a disaster right now.  

Give the kid credit - he is playing around pre-season scrubs for the most part and did a decent job.  They absolutely need to take advantage of his speed and elusiveness more.  I hope they can back some help for the last 2 jobs so he finishes on a good note instead of getting pasted 

As for the draft - completely agree - QBs usually rocket up the board so there will be blue chip talent available wherever they pick.  The Seattle pick is a complete surprise/gift from Jamal (all love man) and the fact that the 2d rd top 10 pick for Sam is icing on the cake.  Not expecting to win either of the last two but man would it be a huge uplift if they did.  Not fair to ask with so many players out - just hope they keep it close and the kid continues to play decent.

I love how Carolina thought they were getting a passable QB with Sam and instead we've got a pick that'll be in the top ten of the second round. Carolina is so bad. Wow lol on @ConstruxBoy and that stupid interlude on the board. 

I would never root for a tank, but a loss yesterday would have had us picking in the top two and we would have garnered another top seven pick to boot with Seattle's loss. That would have been something else.

We're not picking another QB, by the way. My post, while serious, is not indicative of what they'll do. Yeah, Wilson looked okay against JAX with his starting receivers out, but he didn't shock the world or anything. The proof will be in the pudding and we shall see.

The first few games of the year where he was throwing 20 dump offs a game to McCaffrey and running in some fluky TD's didn't fool anyone who has been watching for 3 years. The kid just doesn't have it.

Great job to get 3 picks for him. Hopefully they can hit on the pick this year (not likely given our 2nd round history, but I can dream)

I really havent thought of Sam much after he got hurt.  Its clear that he just isnt a good QB.  He wasnt a jerk like Adams so I didnt have any happiness in watching him flop.  I could see why Carolina took the gamble - they thought Gase was so bad that it was all him vs Sam not being very good - ala Tanny.  I still cant help but think Gase didnt help but the kid is making the same mistakes and is destined to be a backup.  For what its worth Baker, besides all his commercials, doesnt look great either - with Rosen being an all time bust its amazing that Allen was the one 1st rd blue chip that became a star - not that he would have been if the JEts drafted him instead of Sam.

forgot about the other picks for him - JD definitely does well in trades and knew when to cut bait in Adams and Sam.  Even Robbie Anderson who everyone was in an uproar about leaving has crashed back to earth.  

Gotta draft more like 2021 than 2020 - Mims looks absolutely lost - did a complete Stephen Hill bust job.  What a shame because they really need a WR with those physical attributes for Wilson.  Probably going to need to spend another premium pick on a WR.

Its pretty funny how the one dude on twitter (I think its like NYJ Matt or something) keeps hyping us this idea that the Jets are gonna sign Devante Adams in free agency (assuming Rodgers demands a trade from GB and they actually do it).

Its all schtick on his end, but i still get a kick out of it. The idea of an All pro WR tying his future to Wilson is hilarious.

That does sound pretty schticky. Adams is quite good, but as somebody else on Twitter pointed out, we can't tell how good wither he or Rodgers are at this point if they don't have each other. 

Rodgers all-time, of course, is probably HoF, but we're talking about in the here and now.

That's a fair mistake to make. I think they also assessed our talent (bottom five) and decided maybe an upgrade in talent and playcalling would make all of the difference. 

So far, it hasn't. I will say this, though. He's probably better than Cam Newton is at this point. Cam can't throw the ball anymore. Watching him is painful. He never was accurate, but it's really bad.

staring at 4-13 with wins over jax and houston.  ick.  2020 draft looks like a waste.  if lawrence runs the 3rd down play and doesn’t spike it for whatever reason, they likely lose.  wilson throws for 100 yards against jax?  it’s hard to judge what this is, but i just don’t know what has been developed here this year.  wilson seems sub average in a league where QBs rule.  the OL is in flux and becton missing the whole season raises flags, cause you can’t use another high pick on a tackle.  this team needs so much help it’s crazy.  if douglas had a decent 2020 draft maybe i’d be excited, but they need 5 new defensive starters and several offensive players.  glad i’ve been watching juventus lately, cause football seasons with this team seem pointless.

Wilson didn't have the passing stats, but he made a couple of big plays:  three to be exact:  1. the 52 yard run 2. the TD pass to McDermott and 3. the 4th down pass to Berrios and these were able to grant him a win......other than that, he was basically a game manager with no turnovers - but big play win games.

I’m of course now not sold on him as being a franchise QB, but we have to admit he’s shown progress with short range accuracy, mobility and with not turning the ball over since he’s been back. There’s still some hope there at least. Let’s see him keep it up facing two playoff teams fighting for seeding. Maybe next year the offense opens up more if they draft OL and/or WR.

Also, I hope they use the money they save with Crowder gone on Berrios who looks to be a very effective slot guy and even coming off this season’s end, I doubt his market would be more than $8-10MM. He helps Wilson out a lot with his burst after the catch.

ETA: I’d be happy next year with Davis, Moore, Berrios and a first or second round pick being their top 4 guys.
