Playoffs probably. Need to slow our roll on the SB talk.

We took too many penalties, lost concentration, misused timeouts, made bad decisions like giving the other team a chance to return a punt for a td with a few seconds, taking roughing the passer penalties on third and 20-something, came out flat ,jumping over the center on a play when the other team wasn't even going to snap the ball, throwing the ball from the one-yard line every time, etc.

Lots to improve on and clean-up. The head coach needs to show improvement this season.

- and I'm usually the optimistic one around here.
 
Gotta figure the trade compensation has been agreed upon.....lets go!

and me that a contingent of Jets team officials are scheduled to fly out today to meet in person with Aaron Rodgers.

A Jets insider that has given out real info in the past says that Rodgers has already said that he is ok going to the Jets. Future years beyond this one is a concern, so I guess they are trying to get a commitment of at least 2 years.

Draft compensation has been agreed to. There were multiple proposals on the table with GB. One proposal is a Second rounder this year with a third next year that can become a first based on playoff results. Plus a player (possibly C. Davis). He doesn't have the ok to discuss the proposals. I'm guessing another offer condition would be about playing next year.

I imagine that they will discuss details of his contract in California.
 
Not gonna lie......that's pretty damn interesting.

But with the way Rodgers is.....if they fly out there and then flirt with Lamar, Rodgers would probably tell them to F off.

Man Lamar would be fun though
 
They are too deep to pivot at this point. I think a 2d this year with a 3rd in 2024 based on possible escalators is fair. At this point lets lock it up....would be a fun ride for however long it lasts!

At least there are options if GB decides to get difficult last minute - other leverage helps
 
Baltimore will just match any deal that Jackson signs unless it is fully guaranteed or something like that.
 
I know you guys are in the Rodgers zone but ya'll should sign Lamar to a nice unmatchable poison pill contract. Better long play for your young team only 1 year older than Burrow no?

Pretty sure the league outlawed poison pill contracts at some point (maybe after the vikings steve Hutchinson situation)

But yeah, it would be hilarious to sign him to a deal that then skyrockets if he plays more than 3 game in a year in Maryland or something.

Yeah those days are over - I remember Curtis Martin's deal killed poison pills.

Lamar is there as a contingency but I think the plan has always been Rodgers - they are all in unless something crazy happens
 
I suppose giving him the full guarantee that the Ravens are not would be essentially a poison pill, albeit completely legal. Obviously the Ravens could give in and match still.

I really like Jackson but somehow I see more potential disaster there (Moore and Wilson getting pissed off) than with Rodgers - which sounds weird to say. At this point I’m rolling the dice on Rodgers for two years with all these rookie contracts - and worry about three years from now then. Maybe they finally get lucky with a mid-round QB that steps in after Rodgers in 2025.
 
I meant more in the sense of contract Baltimore didn't want to offer - a huge guarantee would be poison pill enough. But alas mysteriously not a single team seems interested in him at all :oldunsure:

JD screwing over the franchise that gave him his professional start and where he worked for 15 years is probably not at the top of his personal goals list I would imagine.

Btw, if the Jets gave L Jackson a fully guaranteed contract as you suggest and D. Jones got $40m/yr, does this mean that the Bengals will give Burrow $50-60m/year fully guaranteed? I'm sure the owners would loveeeee to see that half billion fully guaranteed contract from the Bengals.

JD screwing over the franchise that gave him his professional start and where he worked for 15 years is probably not at the top of his personal goals list I would imagine.

I mean I am just thinking in terms of the Jets doing what it takes to land the player. Keeping the other owners happy is an ancillary consideration. None of the owners liked the Browns going fully guaranteed with Deshaun - but if the only 'punishment' ill will and hurt feelings as opposed to a coordinated effort to screw over the browns by the other teams you live with that imo.

Mike Brown will be concerned with his broader business interests for sure - always does - but on the flip side he is a guy who is more than happy to be the 1 in a 31-1 vote.

Will be interesting to see how it turns out with Joey B for sure.

Of course the deeper issue at play probably is Lamar not using an agent at all. Whether that in an of itself is 'scaring' teams or if it is just plain old collusion who knows.

Regardless would thing and assume they would do due diligence on the guy and plan at least. Even if they are totally out on Lamar I assume that they would not say so before they work out a deal for Rodgers (or pass) since taking Lamar off the table would only seem to give GB and Rodgers additional leverage.

You say that as a fan, but look at the response to Lamar being available as an exclusive franchise play? Crickets. Owners are definitely colluding because they don't want this to be the norm.

Look at the Mets in baseball. The other owners hate Steve Cohen for his spending ways. At the trade deadline, other teams were able to acquire players dirt cheap while the Mets were forced to overpay for similar deals. Not sure if this could happen in football, but the deviating owners become a bit of a pariah. I'm sure it makes working with others a bit harder.

Anyway, my point wasn't about making other teams angry, it was about making one specific team angry, his previous employer that gave him his first opportunity in football. There would be a better chance of JD working out a trade with Baltimore than angering them with a poison pill/full contract offer. Just my opinion.

My other point is if the Jets make that deal, it would be interesting to see the impact on teams like yours. No longer would the other owners refer to the Cleveland owner as the idiot with the one-off non-standard contract. If another Watson-like deal goes down before Burrow signs, then feel free to troll/discuss it here since you are basically the nomad Bengals forum and an honorary member of this group.
 
Oh for sure the knock on effects of Lamar will be interesting. And yeah I much prefer the Bengals get Burrow done before that all happens.

Got a few more Bengals peeps around but right now it is pretty quiet other than a suboptimal incident from a guy who is now more likely a cap casualty for us.

And selfishly if you guys snag Lamar he is out of our division lol.

Looks like the Jets brass is optimistic they will land Rodgers.

Hope Joe D works his negotiating magic. He’s probably my favorite GM the Jets have had even if he appears to have whiffed on ZWilson.
 

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports "there's optimism in the Jets’ organization that they are on the brink" of acquiring Aaron Rodgers.​

Jets officials, including owner Woody Johnson, met with Rodgers in "extensive" talks this week, according to Russini, and Johnson left the sit-down "excited and satisfied" with Rodgers' potential fit in the Jets offense. Russini said the Packers and Jets "remain engaged in conversations about compensation and contract" and that "those conversation already started before the meeting." With the Packers reportedly ready to move on from their longtime quarterback, Rodgers could become a Jet in the coming days -- barring a last-minute change of heart for the mercurial QB. The Jordan Love era in Green Bay seems close at hand, and the Zach Wilson era in New York appears over.

maybe, but he might need another darkness retreat to see what the voices tell him first.
 
Yeah, Berrios had some great moments 2 years ago and was a nice binkee for Wilson when we thought he was the guy. He signed a reasonable deal to come back but still unperformed.

Now Wilson aint it and Moore needs touches. No brainer here. Find someone else who can fair catch punts and snag a developmental guy late in the draft/UDFA to be the 5th WR.

Not gonna pretend I paid any attention to the Ravens secondary, but all accounts are that this Clark trade was great value. So, awesome. I guess he's more of an "in the box guy" so they should still be in the market to replace Whitehead as the FS .

edit: apparently i'm wrong about where he generally lined up in Balt.....

Here are Chuck Clark's alignment %ages in 2022 per PFF & where they ranked among 73 safeties FS: 45.3% (43rd) Box: 29.6% (27th) Slot: 15.6% (28th) Edge: 6.8% (11th) Outside CB: 2.8% (19th) Very versatile overall, but leans more to SS type responsibilities than deep safety

Watching him and G Wilson last year on offense, those guys just jumped off the screen. Can't remember the last time we had offensive players that truly looked like the best player(s) on the field and moved the way those guys do.

I keep posting this in random running back threads, but look at the speed around the corner to the hole in this one. Once he cuts, he gone.

Look at the speed from his own 45 to the opposition's 30.

It might take Hall four or so games (maybe more) to get going, but if the Jets can hang around the beginning of the year with Rodgers as QB, that would really be a dynamic tandem under and behind center.

I really like the Jets if they can land Rodgers. Like ChiefD intoned, I think they're instant contenders. For real. We beat Buffalo with Zach Wilson. Granted Matt Milano was missing (LOL), but we still beat them. We would be able to go toe-to-toe with anybody by the end of next year, and that's when it matters.
