2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (1 Viewer)

This just shows fans don't know **** about football. I wouldn't mind Rex but fans want Seth and then Vic Fangio the guy who's system they can't stand right now?

End of this article sums it up pretty well. Can't play old school defense because in todays league where a lot more guys can pass under pressure will carve you up

The bottom line is that the defensive coordinator hoagie mouth Eagles fans want simply does not exist. Nobody is a heavy blitzer or man-to-man guy in 2023, because that’s not what the league is. You see a lot of zone/match concepts and more passive defensive play in order to combat high-powered passing offenses. That’s why the Eagles were more or less successful this year, because they kept everything in front and didn’t give up big plays. If you’re looking for Buddy Ryan 2.0 or Jim Johnson 2.0, you’re just not going to get it.

The more I think about it, the more I think we really need a true slot WR. Keep Quez for 1 more year, slide him back to WR4/WR5 deep threat specialist, sorta. Is Jarvis Landry too old at age 30? Brandin Cooks might be an option via trade. Seeing some mocks have us taking Jordan Addison. Any other potential trade candidates?

That's kind of what Goedert is in this offense but it would be nice to have an inexpensive dirty work guy like Avant used to be. I thought Pascal was going to be that but there just wasn't enough balls to go around.

Pascal is a nice, bring Nick's system with him kinda guy, but he was an UDFA, which tells me there was a lot lacking from him coming out. Credit to his hard work to make it in the league, but yeah, he already wasn't beating Quez and we need someone that doesn't run lazy routes like Quez does. Adding another piece will just make us that more dynamic. A BIG SLOT would be really awesome.

Brian Johnson to be new OC.
I like this. Couple reasons, but 1. continuity and 2. he should be here for more than a few seasons. Keep developing Jalen, you know what works/what doesn't, add your own flavor/tinkering/playcall wrinkles to it. LFG!!!
makes the most sense, and would have been strange if it didn't occur. was kind of one of those decisions that Siriani really kind of had to do, because if he didn't Johnson likely leaves soon for something else, the new guy coming in gets some backlash, and they disrupt the current system. if they were 8-8 it would be easier to make some different moves

ETA: i guess 8-8 doesn't exist anymore. so pick 8-9 or 9-8

I wonder who's going to call plays now, Johnson or Siriani.
Siriani for sure.
Not sure he reverts back to play calling. Seemed to be a good dynamic of him concentrating on game management and letting the OC deal with the plays. And Nick has always had a big role in the game plan, so if he’s already having input on what plays are being installed for which situations, the actual getting them to the QB piece might not be as important to him.

Good point. I guess I just worry that Steichen seemed very ready for that roll and worked with Nick for a while on play calling and then just took over. Hopefully they gel well and spend the entire offseason together planning and prepping and teaching Brian the ropes of play calling.

He's gonna run the Hells Balls offense:

I'm a rolling thunder, passes rain
I run the ball like a hurricane
Hurt's passes flashing across the sky
You're only young, but Eagles gonna fly

I won't have no turnovers, won't spare no plays
We all are putting up a fight

I got my ball, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Jalen get you

Hell's balls
Yeah, hell's balls
You got me scoring
Hell's balls
My touchdowns are high
Hell's balls

Pascal was undrafted at least partly because of where he came from (Old Dominion).

You snaked the thread title theme I had queued for when this becomes official

Via some shared DM's via the twitters, it appears CJ Gardner Johnson wants to be in Philadelphia and retire there. You know what to do Howie.

He really wants to stay here. His favorite player growing up was Dawkins and he got a ringing endorsement recently from him. My Florida contact who still talks to a lot of former Florida players and knows some agents says CJ wants to stay in Philly long term. He loved that he felt valued here where in NO he didn't feel as valued and stuck to one role when he could play many. He was super impressed with how welcoming everyone was despite getting here so late to start the season. Time to right the wrong of the JJAW pick in the 2nd round and keep CJ here long term

Howie Roseman addresses Jalen Hurts' Contract, Impending Free Agents

“I think each example is on its own, and you have to look at the individual player and that’s not to be critical of anyone we’ve given a contract to that hasn’t worked out, but I think when we talk again about Jalen, we’re talking about a guy we have tremendous confidence in and a guy we want to be here for a long time," said Roeman. "It’ll be a priority for us.”

I hope he holds out for lots and lots and lots of money

Haha. Certain GM's will franchise a player in this situation and then eventually give the QB a deal that's inflated over what they could have got initially. Won't be us.

Guess we’ll see.

What kind of deal do you think he’s going to get?

5 yr, $240m. Probably about $160-170m of it guaranteed.

When in a similar situation, Carson Wentz signed a 4 year $128,000,000 contract including a $16,367,683 signing bonus, $107,970,683 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $32,000,000. Maybe Howie would try a similar structure but with higher value? $45MM/year?

From today's press conference: Nick says the new OC will still call plays and that Michael Clay will be back because specials teams improved as the season went on. I guess going from 32nd to 31st rank is technically an improvement?

Seth Joyner may have severe CTE he doesn't even understand Jordan Davis role

“If he [Jordan Davis] can’t rush the passer, that’s a wasted draft pick if he’s only a first and second down player, knowing that Fletcher Cox is out the door and potentially Javon Hargrave is out the door.” -
@sethjoyner

Its ok we'll draft his replacement. Like Howie said QB Factory baby

Clay should've been fired for Punting to Toney. He's a real kick in the balls on that. Our QB Coach soon to be OC was Toney's OC in College. You'd think he was telling Gannon and Clay all week this guy can score from anywhere on the field don't give him a chance. A lot of people over there were comparing him to Percy Harvin. You might want to keep the ball out of someone like that hands.

The Jalen Reagor trade conditions are finally known! We knew the 7th rounder in 2023, but didn’t know what made the 2024 pick a 4th rounder vs 5th.

It’s a 4th if he reaches ANY one of these in 2022 (spoiler: he didn’t) or 2023, for the Vikings:

40 receptions
500 receiving yards
5 touchdowns

One more chance in 2023, but it is very likely going to be a 5th. He might not even make the Vikings roster in 2023.

Considering those would all be career highs, that's a safe bet.

they were actually punting away from Toney, and the coverage on the punt was obvious that was the intention. not sure if Sipos shanked it or what, but that was why the Toney punt return was so huge. i forget who discussed this, but they explained it well and in detail

5/250 being realistic. We got Howie, I'm not truly concerned when we moved on from Wentz in one year, got Devonta while down that season. Obviously came back pretty strong pretty quickly. And Jalen is 1000X mentally stronger than Wentz. But you are right, we will just have to see.

Ugh, what did we have to try to outsmart everyone here instead of just taking JJ.
It bothers me that I can't enjoy his career without thinking of this every time he puts up a highlight.

Evidently just to pile on, Gekko thinks we're what's wrong with sports. :hot:
Nobody likes us, we don't care. I've seen enough of that guy's posts in other, now deleted forums to know not to care too much about his takes.
I guess I'm still working on the "we don't care" part. So many good people in the fanbase it's hard for me to not get sucked into defending us.
It's silly. Its humans overall. I always say irl when people are like "Eagles fans are trash"

Its just a human element overall at this point though right? Can't you literally google "__________ fans seen fighting at _________ stadium" and it apply to literally every single fanbase? I live out here in SoCal, so the Brian Stow stuff was on and on out here for a few years, b/c some guy was beaten into a coma. That is within the past 10 years. You got a guy that literally murdered an opposing fan in the parking lot of AT&T stadium within the past 10 years.

Part of it is soft trolling to get reactions b/c thats what people do also. Its all fine I guess. Annoying but sure, whatever.
