2024-25 NBA Thread: ESPN ready to debate if Warriors blowing 3-1 lead to meager Rockets diminishes LeBron’s legacy (18 Viewers)

The NBA is starting to lose me much in the same way college football did with NIL money.
Want to explain this a little more?

Just like a cocaine high, Heat Culture isn't sustainable and the crash off of it leaves you feeling empty and gross.
More like I don’t really understand all the new apron business and the like. Same as nil making ncaa all about money grabs for players.

Contracts and commitments don’t really mean anything anymore in either of these sports. Not saying people shouldn’t get paid , they definitely should but it’s instant gratification or I’m out of here.

When etienne left UF And went to Georgia of all places I was done with the ncaa. When butler got pouty bc he wanted another 50 million from Miami or I’ll just go through the motions I stopped watching the heat.

Maybe I’ll go back to paying attention but the doncic deal kind of feels the same. Screw the fan base we will just do what we want w the TV money and stadium building property revenues but you guys just keep buying the jerseys and the streaming services to watch our games.

It's just one giant machine to feed our appetites to gamble.

The Raptors making a win now move for Ingram for a first rounder for a player that they could have signed in 5 months,

Moops mentioned this too but I don’t see it. Spotrac has them at $13.5 million maximum cap space and that’s after dumping Olynyk in the trade.
Sign and trade with New Orleans in the offseason. Or dump Quickley, Or find a home for Poeltl. Plenty of ways to get Ingram if they really wanted him. But the bigger point is why? Ingram is not good enough to move them into contention and if they max him, well they will be regretting that the moment it is signed
Poeltl to LA apparently made too much sense as well.
I think Williams makes a lot more sense than Poeltl for LA. They need someone to match up with Wemby and Chet going forward on the mobility front and that can rim run. That's not Poeltl (not saying its Williams either, but it's definitely not Poeltl).

I'm guessing the Lakers got rebuked by the Nets for Claxton and Williams is the next best young C.

LA also shipped out just enough salary with Knecht and Reddish that they should be able to pick up a buy-out guy or other minimum and stay under the second apron which has a lot of value this year which would have been very hard to do otherwise.

Lakers send Knecht, Reddish, unprotected 2031 1st and a 2030 1st swap to Charlotte for Mark Williams

Seems like a lot for Williams. Not thrilled about this one.
Williams has shown flashes but had a lot of injuries. I've lamented that the Hornets young core has been too injured to play many games together and truly evaluate. I guess they've seen enough on Mark.

It's funny because he was getting absolutely roasted for his effort against the Wizards a couple days ago. Obviously going to have some fun stats with his size and ability on the offense. Wish him the best, but like the return.
I guess the Lakers' rationale must be that, with Luka, all their picks for the next seven years are going to be at the bottom of the first round. That's a much safer assumption than it was last week but still pretty risky. Almost no one trades unprotected picks these days for non-star players.
Realized that Charlotte also has Dallas' top 2 protected pick in 2027. I'm more bullish on how they look with AD than most, but that only would take an injury or two in their older core to be valuable in a competitive West.

Really hope they can find a team willing to take on Miles Bridges. And probably need to get a warm body at the 5. What is Biyombo up to?
How's Miles' defense these days? Kidd fits as a great mentor and Nico is willing to trade top 20 players of all time with the most first team all NBA selections by age 25 ever for oft-injured big men because he loves defense and enjoyed collaborating on shoe deals.

Maybe you'd like Klay Thompson and another first?

I'm sorry to laugh and I do genuinely feel for you, but :lmao:

Are there any players left to trade today?
Vucevic seems primed to move. The Lakers were a good destination before their trade with Charlotte.

Denver would be a nice place. Vooch seems willing to be Jokic's backup with no complaints. I don't know how the salaries would match up.
The Nuggets don't have the matching salary unless it was a 4 for 1 trade (including the awful salaries of Nnaji and Saric) and they also don't have any middling picks to throw in.

FWIW, I don't think the Nuggets are ever going to try and get a real backup center again as they have failed every time other than Cousins back like 4 years ago and Gordon at backup 5 in the playoffs is a great solution.

Again, not sure if it is I am "aging out" of sports fandom, but other than the constantly frustrating dolphins I just kind of don't care. It could also be I am really bad at actual sports gambling...

Oh, I'm just being cheeky. I get it, it's not always fun being a fan of any team in any sport. Try being a Dallas Cowboys' fan for a spell. It's downright depressing. The business aspects of college sports is changing so fast it's nearly impossible to keep up. And if you do root for a college team that's finally put it all together like the Oregon Ducks did last year, they'll break your heart in alarming fashion on the day they finally show up unready to play (or, maybe they weren't that good afterall, which is another sobering thought).

And I suck at sports gambling too, so I just bet little amounts these days to keep things somewhat interesting.

We do need to get Klay over at some point to help lure final year Steph.

The Atlanta Hawks are trading forward De'Andre Hunter to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks and two swaps, sources tell ESPN.

Don’t let the door hit you on the *** Jimmy……good riddance.talk about a guy who took a toyal heal turn.

Riles said….ok Jimmy you can **** off.

You should laugh! It was good humor and intended as such. Dark, but funny.

Like this whole fiasco. Dark, but if not finding the humor it would be so much darker.

The Los Angeles Clippers are trading Terance Mann and Bones Hyland to the Atlanta Hawks for Bogdan Bogdanovic and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Phoenix Suns are trading center Jusuf Nurkic and a first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Cody Martin and Vasilije Micic, league sources tell me.

I am surprised Bogdan is still on the Hawks. I feel like his shooting prowess would have got him traded a while ago.

Crazy thing is this saves the Suns something like $120M over the next 2 years (if they don’t re-sign Martin or Micic).

It also means the Suns ultimately turned the #1 overall pick a few years back (Ayton) into Grayson Allen and not much else.

The Kings turned the #2 pick into Trey Lyles. That's OK, it was a terrible draft with no franchise players and nothing of note happened after pick #2.

If you are drafting on how dislikable each one is they are strong candidates for the number 1 overall pick.

Milwaukee is trading Patrick Baldwin Jr. and cash to San Antonio, sources tell ESPN.
Is it just my imagination or has this guy been traded like three or four times already this season?

I love the way this is reported - Baldwin going to San Antonio for nothing worth mentioning, and the Bucks had to throw some cash in like a dowry to make it happen.

Marcus Smart looks really fat in the photo Shams used to announce the trade sending him to Washington in a salary dump for the Grizzlies.

Love this for the clippers. Much less so for the Hawks.
West just gets stronger... sigh.
Same as day one. Its kind of remarkable that like 12 of the best 16 ran franchises (Or maybe like 11 plus the Lakers who are run by idiots but are the Lakers) have been in the west for the last 20 years.
